The Mandalorian remains an incredibly popular TV series, spawning at least two future spin-offs of beloved Star Wars characters in the form of The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka (likely to feature the first live-action version of Grand Admiral Thrawn). In contrast to the very limited waves of LEGO Star Wars sets released to support animated series like Rebels and Resistance, we’ve thus far had multiple waves of sets based on both “The Baby Yoda Show” and the final season of The Clone Wars. As a result, there’s a bit less fear that you’ll miss out on key minifigs as the characters recur throughout the series. Nevertheless, truly unique characters with limited screen time like the Armorer and Paz Vizsla may not be repeated for years to come. How’s the quality of his helmet printing this time? He’s still looking a little short, to be honest. The print needs to be raised ever so slightly so that his eyeline is at a more credible level. The three minifigures included are certainly central to 75319 The Armorer’s Mandalorian Forge’s overall appeal, primarily for the exclusive duo of the Armorer and Paz Vizsla. Both are designed with such credible detail that they just ooze that indescribable mix of authenticity and appeal that makes them so immediately collectible for any Star Wars fan. Detailing across the exterior is limited, although another Mythosaur symbol appears over this door. The colour combination certainly seems muddled, but that detracts little from the design because the covert is underground. However, the space between these connected sections is disappointing and could have been closed, especially since the walls cannot fold together. For the Armorer, the horns sit too large and slightly out of place. It’s an issue that could have been offset with a slightly higher and larger print of the visor of the helmet, for proportionality and overall placement, even if that would have then taken away from the accuracy of said print. Using the same moulded helmet as for Gar Saxon is where the issue is, and it can be quite easily overlooked on an otherwise exceptionally-designed LEGO Star Wars minifigure (like pretty much all of them at the moment…).

Furthermore, these horns are extremely prominent. I understand the logic behind adapting Gar Saxon's helmet from 75316 Mandalorian Starfighter but the Armourer's horns are much smaller onscreen. Moreover, I think the shawl should have been portrayed by a fabric element, perhaps returning from 75217 Imperial Conveyex Transport. The printing looks superb though, capturing accurate armour shaping and colours. Sand blue looks impressive, although dark blue armour might have been more accurate. The helmet shape is imperfect too, but I think the decoration neatly distinguishes this Mandalorian helmet from others. Moreover, I appreciate such superb detail across the legs, including some mismatched armour panels that reflect the desperate circumstances of these Mandalorians. While the environment is rather drab, the designer has included some colourful consoles that provide an appealing contrast against the walls. Another reddish brown support is present too, beside a Beskar press. The press cannot be lowered, unfortunately, but it looks wonderful and several Beskar ingots are provided, including one underneath the press.

The Armorer’s Mandalorian Forge isn’t the most perfect LEGO Star Wars set releasing as part of the summer 2021 collection, but it does have a lot more going for it than a set of this size and price really should.
