About this deal

PU Foam Underlay: Modern with excellent thermal and acoustic properties and very compfy underfoot but quite expensive

First roll out your carpet in the empty room and cut it so it has an extra 200mm (8 inches) all round the room. Make sure any pattern in the carpet is square to the walls and that you cut enough overlap through any doorways. The below is an image of what we are aiming to achieve with each of the steps below and shows where each item should be fixed. Carpet gripper – This will hold your stair carpet in place Tools and Equipment Needed for Carpeting Stairs

This item is sold and dispatched by a Range Plus Partner

Beginning at the top of the staircase, lay the first length of carpet with its pile facing down the stairs. A carpet wears better with the pile facing down the stairs. To find out which direction the pile is facing, simply run the palm of your hand over the pile. The direction in which the pile feels smoother to the touch is the direction it is facing.

This method only really works if the nosing of each tread is not pronounced so the carpet can fold tightly over it.At the end of the day, it’s really entirely up to you what type of carpet you use to cover your stairs, however, if you are undecided then there are a few rules to work by. If you are using a stair runner that leaves a gap at either side, as mentioned the fitting instructions are pretty much the same – just make sure the gripper strips are the correct width. It will help if you mark a line on each step that you can follow to ensure you have an equal amount of space at each side of the runner. Step 1 – Measure up and Prepare Now you can go up the edges of the stair runner with headless nails to ensure that the edges don’t move too. Optional: add stair rods The sharp points on the gripper rods should always point towards the walls. These points grip the carpet as it is stretched over them and keeps it tightly in place. Step 4 – Fix Jointing Strip in Doorways You will also need to hire a carpet bolster which is a 3 inch bolster (the same as an electricians bolster) but with a very blunt, rounded edge. You should also wear some knee pads as you will be on your knees a lot!
