About this deal

It’s really only designed for clear, easy-to-read sans serif fonts that you’d find in a textbooks or printed article. I even find that sometimes it gets confused by quotation marks. To find out whether your exam board has approval to use the C-Pen Exam Reader 2, please consult your awarding body for guidance. Supported Languages OCR & Text-To-Speech The school’s knowledge of the student’s needs and the support put in place in the classroom - their normal way of working The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) oversees Exam Access Arrangements for GCSE and GCE (A-Level) qualifications.

The C-Pen Exam Reader 2™ isn’t just a great investment in a student’s future, it’s also a valuable cost-saving tool for schools. The device nurtures reading independence, putting complete control in the learner's hands. By switching from human readers to digital readers, schools can save money every month that can be used elsewhere. We took everything great from the ExamReader and made major enhancements for the C-Pen Exam Reader 2™. Scanning speeds are even faster now with AI-supported text-to-speech. The C-Pen Exam Reader 2™ also supports 10+ languages and features an audio-aided user interface to improve accessibility for all. Portable, Cost-Effective Exam SupportI’m sure there are more people who should use it too – can you think of any others? Let me know. How does the C Pen work?

Easy Connectivity - The Exam Reader 2 includes a standard micro-USB connector for charging the battery, which provides hours of runtime from a single charge. There is also a 3.5mm connector, allowing users to plug in the included earbuds or their favourite headphones, so they can hear exam questions without disruption. MULTI-LANGUAGE & DIALECT: Our e-reader pen recognizes & speaks in 10+ languages, including Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish, and Italian, as well as multiple dialects like Australian English and Indian English. Portable Cost-Effective Exam Support Scan printed text in British English, American English, Australian English, Indian English, French, Canadian French, German, Italian, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Dutch, Flemish Dutch, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Mandarin, CantonesIt sounds like I’m complaining here – so I’ll qualify: it reads the text just fine. It’s understandable, and I actually quite like listening to the slow steady voice rather than reading. It seems to be less cognitively draining for me. Simply tun the pen on and slowly, smoothly and steadily run it across a line or paragraph of text. You can set it to read the text out loud to you so you can understand what is written without actually having to read it yourself. This ‘translation’ from written to spoken English can help people with reading difficulties understand texts and facilitate their learning. Final Thoughts

The JCQ regulations are very clear that an independent assessment carried out without prior consultation with the school cannot be used to award Access Arrangements. However, an independent assessment report may be used to build a picture of the student’s needs which will inform decisions made by the school about Access Arrangements. The text you scan can be saved then uploaded to a computer via USB. I’ve actually had a few students simply scan the important phrases or paragraphs they need while studying, then upload them as study notes. I thought that was a cool and innovative use of the pen. Frequently Asked Questions Who should use a C Pen Reader? If you angle the pen too much or too little it doesn’t read the text effectively. You really need to find a specific range of angle for it to work perfectly, and this takes a couple of tries. To find out whether your exam board has approval to use the C-Pen Exam Reader 2, please consult your awarding body for guidance. The voice isn’t perfect, as I outline below. It sounds a little like Stephen Hawking. But for my college students, that wasn’t a concern for them at all. Exam Reader 2 has approval from the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ)* and Cambridge Assessment.

This combination of angle, speed and accuracy makes me worry that younger children won’t have the dexterity for this product. Before buying it, I’d recommend asking your child to draw a straight line through a line of text. Test if they can keep it relatively steady before making this investment. Don’t expect to use the pen on handwritten text. In fact, don’t expect it to work on fancy printed text or even cursive printed text. It’ll work fine for simple text (like the text you’re reading now) and common fonts like Arial, Tahoma and Calibri.Roll the pen over a single word and a dictionary definition will appear on the display. It can also read the definition out loud to you. It uses the Collins Dictionary to find the definitions (but that’s all built-in, no need for Wifi!)
