These things really can be more complicated than you’d expect and blindly throwing in fuses and plugging it into your fusebox could end in some serious consequences. Problem 1

Using two feeds tells the camera which mode it should be in. In most cases, it also avoids flattening the car battery. This is because dash cam parking modes are usually designed to switch off at a pre-set voltage. A fuse can go in either way around because it’s just a link in the circuit. However, because you are taking a live feed from the fuse box to use it elsewhere, it’s of upmost importance that you put the fuse tap in the correct way around. IF the fuse tap is fitted with the correct orientation in the fuse panel (As you look at the fuse tap the left blade is the feed when the secondary output lead is on the right) then removing the primary fuse still allows the secondary circuit to operate. Using this knowledge would allow you to determine if the fuse tap is fitted the correct way round. If you have a meter you could also use that to determine the feed and load in the fuse panel. If you're installing a car amplifier that needs a turn-on signal or a low-power device that requires 12 volts, you can get the voltage you need by tapping into your vehicle's fuse box with a fuse tap. This handy little piece of hardware adds a new fused circuit to the factory electrical systemsafely and neatly. In this article, we present step-by-step instructions on how to do it.
Step 10: Turn off the car, and then plugthe factory fuse in the proper slot ofthe fuse tap,if it was removed in Step 4. (Adding a fuse to a circuit that didn't originally have one could damage factory wiring.) The additional circuit uses the top fuse holder and the primary circuit uses the bottom one (closest to the blades). Fuse taps are clever pieces of metal and plastic that can turn 1 fuse position on your fuse box into 2 separate fuse positions. They are a good generic way to separately power an additional circuit. This may not blow at the correct amperage or fast enough to protect what ever is attached to that circuit. The 2 terminals on the right are not common to each other - thus providing us with 2 separe output circuits (note the OL reading). The bottom right terminal is common to the right hand blade.

Here is a standard blade fuse tap. Looking at it like this, the feed should go to the left hand blade.
Obviously I would never recommend these over the proper auxiliary fuse holder which cost about the same. You remove a fuse, bung it in the fuse tap, fit a 2nd fuse, plug the whole thing in the fuse box and you are done.

The fuse you remove, it must be placed in the slot nearest to the metal prongs. This part of the circuit replaces the original position of the fuse. a>
