About this deal

Color enjoys a decent upgrade, too. Skin tones look richer and typically more natural, flames look more vibrant, the eyes of the White Walkers look more terrifyingly blue, interiors look much more intense and ‘solid’, and the usual copious amounts of blood looks, well, more bloody. The government took aim at Microsoft and busted them up somewhat effectively, the government took aim at the phone companies and busted them up.

My belief is that the latest release should be the *definitive* release containing everything that came before it. Disney clearly thinks differently :-( What this means to you at some point in the future in the United States: no more Marvel or other releases on disc, viewing all material new or old, by streaming only.

The final signed-off master is put directly on the disc in exactly the same form that it was created, with only minimal potential compromises caused by the need to fit all the picture and sound data onto the space available on whatever capacity 4K Blu-ray disc is being used. As someone who does have a decent AV set up, though, my only complaint about the Atmos mix is that bass rolls off just a little short of where I’d ideally like it to. But that’s a small niggle when you’re talking about what’s essentially a cinematic sound mix being created for a TV show. The first commentary for Episode 3 comes from director Miguel Sapochnik, director of photography Fabian Wagner, and camera operator Sean Savage. This is a little muddled, but Sapochnik does touch a couple of times on some of the complaints levelled against the episode - essentially by taking the piss out of the complainers! Basically his point is that not always being able to see stuff in the darkness reflects the characters’ experience, while cutting some of the intense fighting so fast that you don’t have time to really see what’s going on reflects the chaotic nature of the battle. In short, he’s definitely not apologetic! For those not familiar with the details regarding Ultra HD Blu-ray you can refer to my article that includes some pertinent data on the subject. ways HBO sought to convince fans of Game of Thrones to throw a little (or quite a bit of) moolah their way, with deluxe editions like the Higher resolution makes for a sharper image, that's a given. But when it comes to colour and contrast, things are less certain. The difference between the three different types of disc is how much data you can store on them. They're all the same physical CD-size we've been used to for years, regardless of the format. Resolution From a cinematic perspective, this series is shot with a period specific visual aesthetic and that comes through quite naturally in their respective Ultra HD presentations. The Ultra HD video bests the 1080p versions in most respects. Game of Thrones is a period drama that adheres to relatively cooler chromatic schemes, with the exception of sequences that call for richer color to provide thematic emphasis, which doesn't consistently make for eye-catching levels of color. I find that its levels of gray, sepia tones and variants of blue/red benefit from UHD's wider color gamut, appearing warmer and pleasing to the eye. Resolution gets a minor boost with an appreciable increase in detail when compared to the 1080p version. The plethora of close up camera shots reveal plenty of subtle refinement and textures within the image.information on the missing supplements, as is the case with the In Episode Guides and some other interactive or PiP material. Commentating on Episode 4 are director of photography David Franco, Grey Worm actor Jacob Anderson, Missandei actress Nathalie Emmanuel, and Euron Greyjoy actor Pilou Asbaek. This turns out to be one of the most entertaining listens of all the commentaries thanks to the banter between the three actors, and their genial inquisition of Franco about how his side of the process works. All seventy-three episodes are included on thirty 4K Ultra HD discs, which actually do include significant special features too. What’s more, three additional standard Blu-rays have been included with additional bonus features. Here’s a disc-by-disc breakdown of all the extras you get in this set. Note that all of the video-based content is in 1080p HD: SEASON ONE: DISC ONE A dedicated Blu-ray player will also have support for various high-end audio discs, with dedicated hardware to make the most of them – the PS5 can't match this, but then, only hardcore audiophiles would be interested anyway, and would probably never consider the PS5 in the first place for this job. PS5 as 4K Blu-ray player: ease of use

Game of Thrones is the first TV series released on Blu-ray to incorporate Dolby Atmos. Having seen the series Blu-ray I looked forward to seeing what Atmos would bring to the experience. In listening to the various surround mixes I found them to be fair to moderately active in the use of overhead sounds but considering the source material that’s not a complete surprise. Game of Thrones has elements of action/adventure but much of the time is driven by dialog. The show features a variety of interior and exterior locations/sequences containing a host of recorded sounds/effects designed to replicate its environs. Think of a movie or a TV show as a file on your computer – the higher the resolution, the sharper the image and the more space it takes up on the disc: Key kit used for this test: Key kit used for this review: Sony 65A9G TV, Philips 65OLED+934, Samsung 65Q90R, Panasonic UB820, Oppo 205 Cersei doesn't get the sort of send off she deserves in Season 8. Photo: Game of Thrones Season 8, HB That is a lot more than the maximum bitrate of 4K Blu-ray video, which is around 16MB/s. So what would we do with all that extra data? Forget 8KThe console will give you Dolby Atmos sound from discs, but enabling it is far from intuitive. The PS5’s default audio format is multichannel Linear PCM, which doesn't include all the excellent object-based surround wizardry of Atmos. It can play Dolby Atmos from a Blu-ray but you have to find the right setting to trigger it. Once you do, you can choose to have it passthrough the 'bitstream', which basically means it just gives all the audio data to your TV instead of handling it itself, so if you have a TV with Dolby Atmos support, you'll then get the full effect. Buy a streamed film, and you don’t truly own it. You’ve effectively bought a license to play it as often as you like so long as it’s available on the platform you bought it from – but we’ve seen plenty of examples over the years of titles suddenly disappearing from the platforms you bought them on due to changes in the ownership rights between streaming platforms and studios. For example, the Panasonic DP-UB9000 uses a second-gen HCX SoC with a 4K High Precision chroma processor and Multi-Tap filter able to interpolate a 4K 4:4:4 video output from 4K 4:2:0 content. Translated: image quality is sublime. gift giving ideas, HBO is now bringing out the entire Game of Thrones series in 4K UHD, with many but not all of the previously released
