I loved that the penalty wasn't overridden by using influence. That was the real test of love,to endure,to wait, although love shouldn't be tested, should be cherished. I was completely blown away with this book. If you haven’t read Our Thing you need to read it first. Because this is the second book of Cassidy and Max’s story.

The book ends on such a tension, sad cliffhanger. I cannot wait to see what's going to happen next. Ch30 of book1 Our thing, deserves special mention because until then the story was oscillating between romance and the sneak peeks of mafia in the District and what secrets lay therein..but this chapter...this chapter explained "A thief is a criminal until he's stealing to feed his kin. A neglectful mother is a bad mother until she is working two jobs to give her children the best opportunities. A gun is terrifying until it's what's keeping you safe, and then you're terrified without it." which Cassidy thinks in a chapter long before this one...The way she was frozen but later stood up for herself and like desperate times call for desperate measures?,she just did it!I loved her more in this chapter. Does Cassidy finally get her ballet dreams of dancing around the world? Will she get to be with Max or is he just too far out of her world? Those words are dangerous. Just about as dangerous as the world I was born into. As dangerous as the ruthless bastards that I call family.I’m going to claim every part of this body. Remind you who you belong to.” He suddenly rears up, still pumping his hips at a steady pace, shaking with the ecstasy of the feeling of us together. His expression is one of agony and anguish. Bottom Line? Overall, I really liked it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Max was my flavor of j/p hot, Cassidy was my flavor of sweet. The story was solid. I plan to read the next book. But the unnecessary prison story line and the need for an editor to remove the excess put this at 3.5 stars for me. 😅

no condom use or discussion even though he has been whoring around and she was actively sleeping with her fiance There’s a couple of twists, one I saw coming and one I didn’t. And that one ruined me. Like snot dribbling, ugly crying got me. And that friggin’ letter. I WAS A MESS!!! Only Nicci Harris could have me rolling in tears from laughter one minute and then pulling my hair out the next. ""Our Thing"" went from zero to call the fire brigade hot, insanely fast and I loved all the twists and turns and surprises. The premise of one simple act causing a chain reaction of chaos was sheer brilliance."" Jessica from Jessica Reads It. I really wanted to dislike this book because damn was Cassidy annoying, but for the life of me I couldn’t. It was everything. Max Butcher is without a doubt going to make your panties drop and walk themselves to the laundry basket because there’s no point in wearing any when Maxipad is about. The guy has every lustful book boyfriend trait all perfectly moulded into a tattooed hunk of a man. He’s broody, possessive, alpha, charming, sweet, sexy…. And the stamina of the man JEBUS (IYKYK) The story-building and writing is sharp with just the right amount of humor to balance out the dastardly setting that is the district. As with her previous book, Nicci Harris focuses strongly on the theme of family. Her depiction of the mafia and the commitments and struggles of those "in" the lifestyle are raw and honest.

I have so many words to say about this book but I find it hard to express how amazing it is. I won’t be giving any spoilers in this review because you just need to read it to believe it. I think I cried through the last 5 or so chapters. And I’m not a huge crier at all. I felt like the author completely tore me apart with her words. She made me feel like I was right their with them through this journey. I cried and laughed with them, I felt their sadness and pain. You will go through it all with them. I was so sad at the end, not because the book made me sad but because I could have read their story for days. I’m glad this isn’t the end of this series and we get Bronson’s story next. Just keeping my fingers crossed we don’t have to wait too long.

The story is not dark but not a sugar cake either. IMO it was handled well, I liked the trauma of her abuse, the way he treat and take care of her... Cassidy goes on a double date as a favour to her best friend Toni, she ends up hitting it off with the guy and they start making out. Only someone is watching them and isn’t happy about what is happening!! No, you’ll like sensory deprivation. You can hide in the darkness of my making. Relying on all your other senses. All the feelings I offer you because you deserve them. Because you’re such a good girl. So grown up. So strong. So beautiful.” He slides his hand away from my mouth slightly, allowing me to speak. “Have you been told that lately, baby?” »

The writing is exceptional and the editing and grammar are on point. There is nothing to distract from the amazing story line the author unfolds as the book goes on. stars. I read this a while ago, so this review won't be very detailed, but this is a good read if you like the tropes of mafia, virgin girl / experienced guy, jealous /possessive hero, classy girl/ rough guy, and surprise pregnancy towards the end. This is the conclusion to Max and Cassidy’s story here we get to deal with the emotional aftermath of the fallout from book one and both Cassidy and Max are struggling. Cassidy because of what happened and Max because of his failure to keep her safe and the repercussions of all that.
