About this deal

a b Shea, A. E.; Philip Hamburger, Philip; Ross, Harold (August 30, 1941). "The Talk of the Town – Ruffle Bar". The New Yorker. p.7 . Retrieved May 3, 2009.

Plan 2 is a visit to the Island and a beginning process which will be a small pier and an immigration customs booth. A Dukian flag will be put on. Ruffle Bar is the largest island in Brooklyn’s Jamaica Bay, which is a swampy, island-filled area near JFK Airport. In its early history, the island was completely alienated from the city and, in fact, when Jamaica Bay froze over, residents were unable to access any resources for nearly three months. The island has had a diverse and interesting history, including being an important landing point during the Civil War, a key fishing location, and, eventually, a landfill. Today, after quite a bit of preservation and rehabilitation, Ruffle Bar is an uninhabited Bird Sanctuary that is typically only accessed by kayak. 3. Governors Island Once set, you can cut the coconut mixture into bars and dip them in melted chocolate. I made my bars about the size of a single Bounty bar but you can make them any size you wish. Although they are quite sweet so bear that in mind! At about 172 acres in size, Governors Island is that tiny little island you have probably seen while standing in Battery Park (South Manhattan) but have never had the chance to visit. Today, the island is managed by the National Park Service and includes two historic fortifications: Fort Jay and Castle Williams. The island has played an important role in the city’s military history, including the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and World War I. 4. Shooters Island This is a very simple recipe with only 5 very basic ingredients. All you need is chocolate, desiccated coconut, condensed milk, icing sugar and the raspberry flavour comes from raspberry jelly crystals. The crystals also give the ruffle bars a really vibrant pink colour.Foderaro, Lisa W. (July 11, 2012). "Kayakers Wait for the Moonlight on Jamaica Bay". The New York Times . Retrieved January 31, 2018. Totally artificial. You ain't getting this colour from pureed raspberries. No, these ruffle bars get that pinkish loveliness from raspberry jelly crystals. Heavy - Active for much of the day, walking non-stop and carrying objects. Typical jobs: hospital/ward nurse, waitressing in a busy restaurant, cleaner, porter, labourer/construction worker, gardener, farm worker. Leisure Activity Level In addition to its location in the center of prime oyster territory, Robbins Reef is known for its longtime light keeper Katherine Walker. The 46-foot-tall lighthouse was built in 1883, replacing a granite tower that was erected in 1839. Katherine had moved to Sandy Hook, New Jersey in 1855 with her son after her husband passed away. She remarried to John Walker, the assistant keeper of the Sandy Hook Lighthouse. As Forgotten New York recounts, “In 1883 John Walker was reassigned to the newly reconstructed Robbins Reef Lighthouse, and lived with Kate at the lighthouse with Jacob and their daughter Mamie. Kate became the assistant lighthouse keeper and adjusted to an isolated life in the harbor. In 1886, the year the Statue of Liberty was dedicated, John came down with pneumonia and died, but not before charging Kate with the lighthouse’s upkeep: ‘Mind the light, Kate.'” The harbormaster named her the official lighthouse keeper in 1894, a position she kept until 1919. During that time, she would row her children to school on Staten Island, and she was credited with 50 rescues. In 1996, a Coast Guard vessel, “the premier maritime command & control platform in the tri-state region,” was named the USCGC Katherine Walker.

It couldn't be easier to make the Raspberry and Coconut Ruffle Bars, simply put all the ingredients (except for the chocolate) into a bowl and mix together until fully combined and uniform in colour.
