About this deal

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! We've reached 1000 stories! That's right we've gathered up over 1000 great stories for you to read. We hope you enjoy your erotic reading! Among the other shortlisted books were The River Capture by Mary Costello (“He clung to her, crying, and then made love to her and went far inside her and she begged him to go deeper and, no longer afraid of injuring her, he went deep in mind and body, among crowded organ cavities, past the contours of her lungs and liver, and, shimmying past her heart, he felt her perfection”); City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert (“Then I screamed as though I were being run over by a train, and that long arm of his was reaching up again to palm my mouth, and I bit into his hand the way a wounded soldier bites on a bullet.”); and Dominic Smith’s The Electric Hotel (“The actual lovemaking was a series of cryptic clues and concealed pleasures. A sensual treasure hunt. She asked for something, then changed her mind. He made adjustments and calibrations, awaited further instruction”). Bad Sex 2019

For Philyaw, it was important to position sex in the realm of pleasure. "I wanted to challenge the idea that sex and sexuality is always fraught, that we should operate as sexual beings from a place of fear, or shame, or guilt," she says. "What if instead the first things we'd been taught about our bodies was that they are good, that they belong to us, and that we should prioritise our own pleasure? What if we'd been taught to prioritise our own satisfaction over serving and pleasing others?" Her characters are not raised that way, but they are striving to break free and follow their desires. "The results are messy and complicated," says Philyaw.Who's going to be that 1500th story? Should be coming by the end of this week, beginning of next....if you've got a story that we should be reading submit it, who knows you might be the one to put us over the top. :) This one is key of pleasure, and this one is lover’s dream.’ I said this quite sincerely because it was so. Eve Babitz – who died late last year – is another inspiration, even lending her name to Fishman's narrator in Acts of Service. Emma Forrest is also a big fan of the cult LA writer, best known for her writing about life in '60s and '70s Los Angeles. "What I love about Eve Babitz on sex is that she sees it as an art form; that great sex is art. It has an almost religious fervour for her."

When she finally does start dating and having sex again, towards the end of the book, things are different. Forrest feels able to voice her desire out loud, and has a newfound "power to conjure sexual encounters exactly the way they were in my fantasies". The Secret Lives of Church Ladies tells of experiences that are very different to those in Fishman's Acts of Service, Forrest's Busy Being Free or other recent books exploring female sexuality. And yet while these books all detail singular experiences, there is a common thread – women trying to figure out what they actually want, disentangling their true desire from what's expected of them. Greenwell wrote in The Guardian: "sex is a kind of crucible of humanness, and so the question isn't so much why one would write about sex, as why one would write about anything else." What happens when a girl fresh off a breakup enlists two male friends to help make a fantasy real? Read the whole story here. WOW...what a ride this last weeks been with our hosting company again going down. Guess we'll be shopping around for a new one. BUT on a good note it's SEXUARY! Our favorite month of the year here at Saltys house. The month to celebrate sex and all it's kinks. Wanna read about it? Follow his blog at oursexuary.com. Otherwise get out there, and enjoy a fantastic Sexuary 2019! Though very different books, the racy sex scenes in Acts of Service has seen it often mentioned in the same sentence as Fifty Shades of Grey. Fishman isn't too annoyed. "I wanted the book to be philosophical, but I also wanted it to enrapture people, and excite them to read. So it's a success for me in that way to have people make those comparisons."

Ok, the second of many contest are now closed. Cash prizes will be sent out shortly to the winners. We appreciate the many authors who submitted to the 'non-consent' contest. Look for the next announcement next week on a new contest.

November 2023

For Philyaw, the best sex writing "features women who are unapologetic about embracing their desires and seeking pleasure, even at other people's expense. Toni Morrison's Sula will always be the gold standard for me in that regard." I lean against her both breathing hard I’m still inside her smiling. She takes my hands lifts them and places them around her body, she puts her arms around me, we stay still and breathe, hard inside her, tight and warm and wet around me, we breathe. She gently pushes me away, we look into each other’s eyes, she smiles.” Now he opened his clothing and took out his hard, eager sex, and mounting her he let it rest against her thigh as he continued to stroke her and work her. Don't forget Sexuary is just around the corner. What is sexuary? Read about it at www.oursexuary.com

This excerpt from Ondaatjie’s Booker prize-winning novel set at the end of World War II is sexy and romantic. I also have a soft spot for this book because the movie adaptation was my first R-rated film. The judges of the Bad Sex in Fiction Award were swayed by several sex scenes in Frey’s novel, including an extended passage set in a Paris bathroom involving the narrator, Jay, and his lover, Katerina, a model from Norway. The following is merely a brief extract: Wise Cheryl Strayed, also known as advice columnist Dear Sugar, has written candidly about female sexuality. At its worst, sex can be self-destructive, and Strayed is no stranger to that. But at its best, sex can heal—can even empower. She was twisting from one side to the other, her hands gathering up the soft sheets at her sides into knots, and it seemed her whole body grew pink, and the nipples of her breasts looked as hard as if they were tiny stones. He could not resist them. From Submission Guidelines to Volunteer Editors to helpful essays, this section has all you need to polish your story! We went into an alley, and with one hand he held my waist, and with the other he pulled down the front of my jeans, slightly, as if to have a glance.
