About this deal

Ridden with Poxes – Roll a dice at the end of the combat phase, on a 4+ then every enemy unit within 3” takes d3 mortal wounds. Unusual in that it’s one dice roll to trigger on everything. Looks to be of marginal utility but you really can start to build a Plague Furnace (or Corruptor) that pumps out a steady stream of chip mortal wounds, and we’ve seen the value in that from the Nurgle and Ogor books. Probably still not as good as getting those great plagues out. You won’t see this as much as the Deceiver simply because dreaded skitterleap is so good, but if you’re running the right kind of army for it this will be the hardest hitting verminlord, and isn’t just a solo operator. Clawlord If you’ve played with or against a Skaven army any time in the history of Age of Sigmar, there’s a good chance these were involved. Infamously one of the most points expensive non-hero units in the whole game, due to costing 320 points and wanting to be reinforced. Tech-priest Dominuses have fallen out of favor recently, which is a shame because Ad Mech still field Vanguard and Rangers on a regular basis to fill out Battalions and the Dunecrawler is a legitimately good unit that sees lots of competitive play. It’s still a great boxed set to start building off of, but some of the savings are mitigated by the fact that you probably won’t want a Tech-Priest Dominus in your army.

If you’re not a fan of mass swarms of troops for your army, FEAR NOT!!! Orks are an extremely flexible bunch and you can instead grab 3 boxes of Gretchin (totally not goblins), Gretchin are extremely weak but also extremely cheap troops both in points and money so you can make a battalion for your command points and focus mainly on other, bigger Ork toys. This is where you can live out your dreams of an all-vehicle Mad Max-style army. You can build this without the foot-slogging Gretchin, but having at least one Battalion Detachment (2 HQs + 3 Troops, minimum) gives you +5 Command Points to work with and is a huge boost for doing other fun stuff, plus the Getchin will work well as units that can hold objectives while your vehicles zoom around killing things. Other UnitsIf you run the Bray-Shaman as your General and build the Ungors as regular Ungors, you’ll get another legal list from this box as he will turn your Bestigors into Battleline giving you the required Hero and 2 Battleline again. Ungor Raiders however are one of the few ranged units available to Chaos and certainly to Beasts of Chaos in particular so if you want to do anything in the shooting phase you might want to build them as Raiders. Note that getting the first trait doesn’t require any Master Moulders at all, that’s great because these two warscrolls have zero interaction with each other otherwise. If you’re going full potato Moulder, then the secondary half of this rule certainly exists.

Supreme Manipulator – Gives you a reroll on the Heroic Leadership heroic action. It’s OK, command points are very nice, but you can do better than this.

This, like Start Collecting Anvilgard before it can be used in any Cities of Sigmar army. Don’t let the name fool you! Contents: 1 Lord Celestant on Dracoth (Hero), 1 Lord Relictor (Hero), 3 x Retributors, 10 x Liberators (Batteline), 3 x Prosecutors The Nurgle box is pretty good value. If you’re collecting Nurgle Daemons you want Plaguebearers and Nurglings en masse, and at least one Poxbringer too. If you’re going to buy those things, you might as well buy this box, and basically get the Plague Drones for free. A very respectable set which gives you pretty much what you want to get going with the faction – perfect. You can also ring the bell in your hero phase and get a random effect on a d6 roll. This ranges from hurting itself, debuffing enemies and hurting enemies. These are all OK effects though you will miss the old bell’s result of +1 to cast for friendly units in an aura. The other problem here is the old bell was a 2d6 roll, making those extreme results of hurting yourself much less likely. Now on a single d6, every outcome is as likely as the other as it’s just unreliable.

The poor Doomwheel doesn’t quite get there. A little too fragile, too random, too pricey and occupying a behemoth slot really pushes it out of contention. This is a shame as it’s so close to being useful, with a good pokey gun and the rolling doom rule letting it move over units with a wounds characteristic of 3 or less and doing mortal wounds when it does so. They’re a lot of fun if you do take them, though it would be nice to see a re-write on more-more speed as the punishment for rolling a double 1 (your opponent getting to move the model) is far too big currently.

‘Ere We Go

Even for your Gal Vets, this can still get more models fighting when the proverbial hits the fan and you find yourself in those weird combat formations that inevitably happens in AoS. The Great Clans Bear in mind that the above ideas are just two of a multitude of choices you can make and if you have settled you want to use X unit because you think they’re awesome then by all means go your own way. Competitively at the moment you’ll often see Sautekh and Novokh on top, though just about every dynasty (and custom dynasty) has neat options that you can play to and give your opponent a tough challenge. There’s a case to be made for a unit of 3 of these as a troubleshooter in an army going in another direction for pure damage, and in that case the warpfire thrower probably wins out over the windlauncher, but this is unusual. Clans Pestilens Plague Monks Contents: 1 Primaris Battle Leader (HQ), 10 Intercessors (Troops), 3 Aggressors (Elites), 1 Space Wolves Primaris upgrade sprue Contents: 1 Great Bray-Shaman (Hero), 10 x Ungors (Battleline) / Ungor Raiders, 10 x Bestigors (Battleline with Bray-Shaman or Beastlord General) and 1 x Cygor (Behemoth) / Ghorgon (Behemoth)

The Crypt Horrors can built as 2 different FEC units (Horrors and Flayers) or as a Nagash/Soulblight unit the Vargheists. Buying 4 of this box isn’t out of the question. This is in the top 2 of repeatable boxes to buy and it ain’t 2.The Battlewagon. The big lumbering behemoth tank for the orks and also a very useful transport with its transport capacity of 20. It is pretty though and has a load of guns and weapons. While overall its shooting in Gunwagon configuration leaves a bit to be desired, Battlewagons work great as mobile open-topped firing platforms or as melee push threats in their Bonebreaka configuration. All three versions can be built from the same box. Nephrekh: Models have a small invulnerable save and can translocate (teleport) long distances through objects and terrain (this gives up shooting)
