About this deal

I want a certain amount of control over ISO, aperture and shutter speed because I understand how they affect my photo. But I don’t want to overthink these settings and miss the beauty of the moment. Spanning wide-angle to telephoto focal lengths, the built-in 4x optical zoom lens covers a 25-100mm equivalent range and has a bright f/2 maximum aperture to suit working in low-light conditions. Additionally, image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 2.5 stops to further aid in creating sharp imagery with slower shutter speeds. Pro Capture Mode will automatically sequentially shoot from 0.5 to 10 seconds before the shutter is pressed to ensure you don't miss a shot. There are dedicated Macro and Underwater modes on the dial, and a large number of Scene modes too. You can capture images with a natural look, or with artistic filters applied. If you enable Raw capture, you can add filter effects after the fact, right in camera.

You can change the magnification level to 1x, 2x or 4x by pressing the arrow pad Right button. Up to 44.4x (35 mm equivalent: 28x) is possible when using the zoom simultaneously. In addition to lighting your subject while the image is taken, the LG-1 also assists in composing your image, as the constant light source illuminates the subject. When using the LG-1 the camera's closest focusing distance is 1 cm, allowing the camera to lay flat on the subject and still focus. New to the Tough TG-6 are a slew of high-speed recording modes for video. In addition to being able to shoot 4K video at 30fps, it can also record 1080p up to 120fps, 720p at 240fps and 360p at 480fps. You no longer need to be nervous around the water with your camera – the TG-6 is completely waterproof and pulls you right in. A good motivator The TG-6 is a bit of an outlier in that Olympus continues to use a 12 Megapixel sensor, rather than the 16 or 20 Megapixel sensors found on its competitors. On a chip this small, the TG-6’s lower pixel count might help its performance at higher ISOs, but the much bigger benefit is its lens’ ability to go to F2.0 at its widest-angle setting, letting in twice as much light as its closest rivals will. And, for most purposes, a 12 Megapixel sensor is more than enough.

Just like its predecessor, the TG-6 includes a 12 megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor, along with the same 25-100mm (equivalent) f/2.0-f/4.9 lens (that’s a 4x optical zoom). The camera has a range of shooting modes, and for advanced users, there’s even the ability to capture images in raw format. At the 2x zoom (50mm equivalent) setting, the maximum aperture has dropped to f/3.2. The resolution drops a little bit, to 1,936 lines. You can stop down to f/4.5 and get a little more detail (2,013 lines). There's an f/13 setting, again, it's just the f/4.5 aperture with the dimming ND filter added into the optical path.

So the Olympus Tough TG-6 is weak under extreme lighting conditions, but so are many other cameras. For many of us, high ISO with low noise is the last frontier on the technological side of photography. Useful accessories (sold separately) are available to utilize the built-in flash or LED illuminator of the TG-6 for shooting in Microscope mode. The Olympus Tough TG-6 is the company's sixth-generation premium underwater camera. It features a 12 Megapixel sensor, 4X optical zoom lens, numerous sensors and, of course, serious protection against the elements. Key specificationsA 2x Digital Teleconverter function extends the effective zoom range to 8x, or a maximum equivalent focal length of 200mm, when working in Program, Aperture Priority, or Movie modes. The reason why so many people are excited about the Olympus Tough TG-6 is the impressive list of technical specs. In-camera time-lapses can be recorded using an interval timer, with 1-second to 24-hour intervals for up to 299 consecutive images. The TG-6 is no replacement for a GoPro, but it captures 4K video that looks good, though it does lose some wide-angle coverage due to a crop. It tops out at 30fps, but you can switch to 1080p and record at 60fps or 30fps, and 720p at 30fps is also an option. All of these settings are cropped, and the camera omits a 24fps recording option. If you want to get closer to the look of cinema films, you can switch to the 25fps capture rate used by PAL systems.

Pop Art (I, II), Soft Focus, Pale&Light Color (I, II), Light Tone, Grainy Film (I, II), Pin Hole (I, II, III), Diorama (I, II), Cross Process (I, II), Gentle Sepia, Dramatic Tone (I, II), Key Line (I, II), Watercolor (I, II), Vintage (I, II, III), Partial Color (I, II, III) There are 8 ISO settings available on the Olympus TG-6. Here are some 100% crops which show the noise levels for each ISO setting for both JPEG and Raw files. JPEG Suppose you want to capture a silky waterfall photo. Normally, you need control over your shutter speed to make it go slow enough to capture the motion. But with the TG-6 you don’t have control over the shutter speed. We understand this can sometimes be difficult with work commitments, but we will do our best to accommodateyour needs. While the TG-6's rugged specs are very impressive, when it comes to going underwater, several of its peers can go quite a bit deeper, with the Nikon Coolpix W300 (arguably the TG-6's closest competitor) able to function down to 30 meters (100 feet). If you're a snorkeler, that's no big deal, but for scuba it's a very desirable trait. The TG-6 is a pretty standard point-and-shoot from a handling perspective. Its handgrip is decently deep, and the camera ships with a cloth wrist strap that you can use on land and under water. But when I leave my cameras lying around, my wife doesn’t like the clutter (even though she loves the photos that result from the clutter). You’ll have to get used to keeping your ISO at 1600 or lower (you’ll need a steady hand for the slow shutter speed that results). Underwater mode enables you to take underwater pictures in appropriate settings by selecting a sub mode best suited for the subject or scene. The TG-6 camera is waterproof up to depths of 15 meters without a separate sold underwater housing.

For example, when shooting from as close as 1 cm to the subject, a 1 mm subject can be magnified to up to 44 mm on the monitor. That's where cameras like the TG-6 make a lot of sense. You can take it places where you're worried you may drop or break your phone, and having an actual flash, along with ring light capabilities, make it a much better tool for macro shots. The On/Off button is on top, along with the shutter release, zoom control, and a control wheel. The control wheel isn't comfortable—it's very slim, and it has to be waterproof, so sealing makes turning it require some effort. Olympus has added plastic ridges, so you can get a grip and turn it, but they are a little pointy. The wheel is useful—the TG-6 doesn't include full manual exposure control, so many photographers will opt to use it to dial in exposure adjustments. It's also not the end of the world—you're not going to cut yourself on it, but you may notice some small indentations in your thumb after turning it a few times.
