About this deal

I sit sipping champagne in the warm water, bubbles frothing around me as I admire the breath-taking view of gorgeous blue skies and mountains. I can’t believe I’m here, at this stunning holiday home. It’s to die for… Wow!!!… The hair on my arms was standing on the ends and my heart was pounding throughout… I absolutely loved this… What an ending!!!… I cannot remember the last time I was so hooked… Absolutely addictive and I read it in one sitting… Kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with my heart absolutely pounding… especially at the end!… Absolutely hooked!’ Bookworm86, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you are new to Hurst, I recommend starting with The Couple in the Cabin, which was one of my favorites by Daniel. I am still a big fan and look forward to his next book. I also enjoy his newsletters interacting with readers. I listened to the audiobook performed by Zoe Mills and Richard Burnip and read the e-book, as well. The narration was OK, but not my favorite. A little dull. Nicola feels a bit insecure because Kim is richer and more fit than she is but she loves Kim so much that she doesn't let it get to her until she stumbles upon a secret. Instead of confronting it head on, she sits on it until she's sure of what to do. She is one of those people who firmly believes that “her way is the right way, and only way” when it comes to dealing with disturbing situations I sit sipping champagne in the warm water, bubbles frothing around me as I admire the breathtaking view of gorgeous blue skies and mountains. I can’t believe I’m here, at this stunning holiday home. It’s to die for....Nicola and her family are invited to join her best friend and her family at their holiday cottage in the Scottish highlands over a long weekend. A free vacation is hard to pass up when money is tight. After that it only takes an accidental glance at the wrong text, an over heard conversation, and everything blows up. Like the call of the bird in the trees just outside the cabin, its piercing shriek cutting through the silence like a hot knife through butter.

Meet Kim and Lewis, the owners of this luxurious vacation second home. Also going along is their fifteen-year-old son, Cole. What teen wants to hang out with their parents? Jan and I read this one, both disappointed as we easily pointed out the plot holes and questionable outcomes. We are becoming excellent detectives! Amazing, nail-biting … I could not stop reading it . Every time I thought I had it figured out there was a twist and it kept me hooked til the end .’ NetGalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I enjoyed this, as I have enjoyed everything I have read by this author. It's entertaining, but, in this case, I thought the final twist was a step too far and unnecessary. The story is told from multiple points of view. There were lots of secrets and lies hidden. Friendships are pushed to the edge of their limits. There is a cast of strong characters. Having just relaxed in her friend Kim's luxury holiday home, Nicola is left reeling from a revelation. Everything she thought she knew changes. This is a fast-paced-thriller. I could not read this book fast enough.

Gripping from the very first chapter - I could not put this book down and never could have predicted the ending!... Excellent … Nail-biting and heart-pounding !’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Holiday Home

Nicola is the primary narrator, but the reader also experiences her husband Ryan’s perspective. Also shared are the POVs of Lewis, husband to Kim, and Cole, son of Lewis and Kim. I found all of the characters whiny and self-serving, and I didn’t like any of them. I like that there are a few characters on this trip. A secluded location is nice and inviting and when secrets emerge things get quite exciting! Ever since discovering Daniel Hurst on NetGalley, I request whatever the man writes. And he writes a lot. I know what to expect from him. So it was a no brainer for me to request his new novel.

Wow!!! ... The hair on my arms was standing on the ends and my heart was pounding throughout … I absolutely loved this … What an ending!!! ... I cannot remember the last time I was so hooked… Absolutely addictive and I read it in one sitting… Kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with my heart absolutely pounding … especially at the end!... Absolutely hooked! ’ Bookworm86 , ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I have read many Daniel Hurst books and love his style and am a fan, but this was my least favorite. Being a successful writer cranking out numerous books yearly, each cannot be a 5-star winner. Would you rather own an upscale secluded holiday home or a small cabin by a beautiful lake? Do you enjoy being in a hot tub?I suspect I can hear the blood pumping around my body too, or at least feel it, but I know that's not a normal thing to be aware of. I'm usually occupied enough not to be thinking about such a thing, but here, it's as if time has stopped and I'm aware of everything. The get together is not at all as they think it will be as the husbands are seemingly unhappy and not in the holiday mood. It seems like the whole thing is headed for disaster, but little do they suspect what this disaster will spell for the couples. Nicola & Ryan& Kim & Lewis, along with children Emily& Cole head on vacation together. The ladies are bff's and the men are not fans of each other and seem to just tolerate each other. The chapters are short, but almost every chapter ends with a foreshadowing statement or mini cliffhanger, which became more and more annoying as I read. This trope took away any nuance for what might happen next. Gripping… kept me on edge till the very end… A compelling and addictive read with an explosive conclusion… full of twists and turns… Each chapter pulled me in more and I couldn’t get enough.’ @ rubiereads, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
