About this deal

Pour finir l'entrée bluetooth est excellente aussi, pas de coupures, même si je quitte la pièce avec le téléphone. Switching to Pink Floyd, Topping D70 would always grab me emotionally and would whisper to me: look at how well I am playing this guitar, look at this deep reaching voice, look how smooth everything sounds. Element X was not as catchy sounding, it was more linear and maybe too serious at times. For this type of music, I think D70 is more appropriate. soundquality was inverse to measurement levels (DP5 sounded worst but measured best, 1543 other way around) The Topping D70s offers a couple of PCM filters to fine-tune the signature of the DAC. There are 6 filters in total. Mode 1 to 6. Mode 3 is the default filter. I honestly do not dwell on these as they tend to do more harm than good, however, I liked the filter mode 4. I will talk about it in the sound section. There are couple more subsections in the menu, the majority of them being related to the IIS interface. Another great feature of the D70s is the ability to auto-standby. I wish the SMSL SU-9 had this feature too. It is just so practical. Lastly, you have the option to factory reset the device if a need arises for such a measure. A D70S nálam ebben az utóbbi felállásban annyira jól szerepelt, hogy hajlani kezdtem Erika javaslatára, s bár a DAC-ot végül is nem tartom hangzásában tökéletesnek (ahhoz túl lassú, ami valószínűleg a táp kondenzátorainak a jellege, és túl civilizált, kicsit túlfinomított, ez az AKM chipek saját jellege) az erényei messze túlmutatnak ezeken a megbocsájtható hátrányokon. Szóval, kellett nekünk egy ilyen…

If you use just a single analog output, RCA or XLR and don’t use the second one, I recommend disabling the second output – it is setting no.4

Eljön a Kánaán. To recap this section, I can say that you are getting your money’s worth under the hood, without a doubt. The performance on paper is quite amazing and let me tell you this, just wait until you hear it. Features

First and foremost, Topping D70 is relying on the velvety sounding AKM AK4497EQ DAC chips, two of them for a 100% dual-mono balanced operation. AK4497 is part of the Verita Velvet Sound architecture of the Japanese manufacturer. Up until few months ago this was their flagship chip, dethroned only by the newest AK4499EQ. D70 is not a super-relaxing type of DAC, it is not smoothing out the dynamics and transient response but it also not a hard slamming and fatiguing type of DAC.On the wrong setup Arya will sound cold and lifeless, it can be even forward and cramped with the wrong source. D70 is brightening the day a little bit for them, it adds some midrange magic, a weightier tone, a little bit of substance and opens up the window for a wider soundstage and for a deeper sound. In all honesty, I don’t think one is better and one is worse. It really depends on your listening habits, on your setup and on what sound you really want to achieve. If you don’t have funds for a serious R2R unit, then it is quite easy: get the D70S and be done with it. If you want a more reference tuning that has more of everything without leaning too much to any camp, then D90 better fits that description. If Topping would ever come up with a D90S, I urge them retaining the 5V output of the D70S, for me that’s a big plus, as a dedicated preamp wouldn’t be needed with such a unit if you’re using bookshelf speakers.

For a good Bluetooth codec support and stable connection, they went with the highest performance CSR8675 BT receiver from Qualcomm, that currently supports all the best codecs as AAC, SBC, AptX, AptX-LL, AptX-HD and LDAC. Bluetooth version 5.0 and that wireless booster (antenna) will make sure to play all your tunes interrupted even with two concrete walls between the source and the D70S MQA. For a life-like presentation was important to have a grain-free treble performance. Treble is sounding extended up to subsonic levels but without putting on the fire the upper treble. Treble is not harsh or bright sounding by any means, it is quite defined but not a lot, it has substance but doesn’t attract a lot of attention to it. You can make it even more defined and extended in the treble area by using a different digital filter, filter 5 will give you that, but it somehow shifts its performance to a colder and brighter side. D70S felt like drinking mulled wine on a super-cold day and like pouring milk and honey when you got a cold. It has something that wakes you up and steals your attention, a smoothness and a liquidity that is hard to be expressed with words. It has to do with natural rendition of textures as it doesn’t sound like a digital to analog conversion is happening in real-time, it sounds like real music and not like a reproduction of it. What really caught my attention was the user manual. It is a rare sight when an audio manufacturer is publishing actual audio performance measurements in the user manual. From harmonic distortion, to FFT Spectrum and RMS levels, everything is included in the manual. Even I2S interface phase settings are specified and DSD channel settings as well. I like that all the usual audiophile marketing snake-oil is not present in the manual, just pure specs and facts. They got my attention with the release of D70, now they got my respect.gjokkel: Műszakilag nem tudom megmagyarázni a dolgot, de egyértelműen hallható különbség van a különböző USB kábelek között. Szerintem ezért vált be nálam a sima adapter. A hálózati kábeleknek ugyanígy saját hangjuk van, pedig az meg csak az 50 Hz-es váltóáramot viszi. D70S has a clean looking front panel, with just an On/Off button to the left, a monochrome OLED screen in the middle and two volume buttons plus an input selector can be found on the right. Its screen is moderately big, but thanks to its bigger lettering you can clearly see the volume level and the selected input even from afar. D70 is a fully balanced DAC, so it is normally to have an XLR balanced out and a single ended RCA out. Asahi Kasei recommends using their own low noise S/PDIF receiver with their digital to analog converters, so it was natural using the AK4118 that takes care of all its digital inputs except for I2S and USB. The volume control of D70 reminds me that it can also be used as a pre-amp for a power-amp or for some powered active speakers.
