About this deal

You’ll also need to consider whether the shape of the frame bag you have your eye on is compatible with your bicycle frame. Frame bags are usually attached with Velcro straps and if you pair an incompatible model with your bike frame the Velcro straps will usually be too short. For e.g. if you try to attach a triangular frame bag to a beach cruiser bike with a curved double top tube you’ll soon run into problems. You’ll also find there are differences between where you can attach your frame bag on men’s bike frames and women’s bike frames. If you’d like some advice on whether your frame bag will fit your bike, feel free to give us a call. If this is your first frame bag, we don’t think it’s necessary to get one custom-made. If you want to go that route, there’s lots of good information here on what to look for in a frame bag, custom or not. It has a durable waterproof zipper, and while this bag isn’t seam sealed, the materials are waterproof. We can attest that this bag will keep your gear dry enough unless you submerge it. If a frame bag is too small for your bike, it also might not work as intended. Some frame bags might not even attach to your bike at all if they’re too small. Even if they can be installed on your bike, they won’t maximize the use of space in the internal triangle. A bike frame bag fits in the center triangle of the bike. The center frame triangle is the main triangle created by the tubes that are put together to build a bike frame. There is also a bike's rear triangle, where the rear wheel fits, but this isn’t where a frame bag fits. Top tube

We found the bottle-holders a little too snug for multiuse. It’s not quite big enough to holster a camera larger than a point-and-shoot.The bags are clean and simple but don’t have a bright liner like other bags, so it can be hard to find a dark pair of tire irons buried in the bottom. A clever ventilation strip allows air to push through roll-top bags so your load is always tight and clean. Hand wash your frame bag with mild soap in a bathtub or deep sink. Rinse with clean water after gently scrubbing the frame bag surface with your hands. Newer bags have an air-release valve that allows air to escape as you cinch your load. This keeps the load where you want it — close to the bike. Use only mild detergent or soap when cleaning your frame bag, such as dish soap, laundry detergent, Doctor Bronner’s, or Nikwax Tech Wash. Harsh chemicals could damage the material and aren’t good for the planet either.

Materials like Cordura and X-Pac are common on frame bags since they are both lightweight and durable. Nylon or polyester fabrics reinforced with a rubbery coating are also common on frame bags. Visibility features: Extra-visible reflector strips or sewn reflector films provide better visibility and safety in traffic Dimensions: 1.31: 16.5x2x4.3, 1.7: 17.7x2x4.3, 2.5: 18.9x2x4.7, 3: 20x2x4.7, 5: 20.5x2x5.1, 5.9: 21.3x2x5.5 There is a foam sandwiched between the exterior and interior along the bag’s edges, where it interfaces with the frame. This foam, coupled with the rigid materials, keep the bag more rigid than most frame bags we tested. It also has an interior Velcro divider that prevents the bag from bulging too much in the middle when fully stuffed. After you’ve cleaned and dried your frame bag, store it with the rest of your bike gear. You can store most frame bags flat, but don’t crease any stiffening materials built into your frame bag. As you can see in the photo - remember to add some "bleed" - 10 or 15mm more to the outer outline. This will help you to sew everything properly. Notice, that I'm doing a one-cut-of-material project, meaning that all the bag walls are connected and sewed only where it was impossible to avoid cutting. I see every sewing-connection as a weak link, so if I can avoid this, it means my bag corners and edges will be stronger.

One of the most important things about a frame bag is how well it fits your bike. How a frame bag fits onto your bike will make or break the functionality of that bag. Roswheel offers three bag collections: Touring, Road, and Offroad. All of the bags have welded seams and roll tight for waterproofness. Rubberized TPU-coated zippers keep water from soaking through the bags and into the load. As I mentioned earlier, sometimes I take my powerbank and connect it to phone which is on the handlebar - so I did a holder at the vertical wall (built with two rubber bands); then, two narrower rubbers will work as cable management stuff, and finally I'll leave a hole in one of the bag's corner (photo no. 4) so the cable could be put out of the bag.

Bike frame bags: easily access your essentials

We tested the Roswheel Road Series in Slovenia this fall and fell for the fast-and-light road rides. You want the frame bag to fit securely between the top tube and down tube. Larger frame bags will also reach all the way to the seatpost, creating a secure triangle usually held in place with webbing or hook-and-loop closures. Road-style commuter bikes or gravel bikes will usually have the widest triangles, with full-suspension mountain bikes typically requiring specifically fitted bags to accommodate for rear suspension. Capacity Secure – The bag needs to have a secure mounting system to the frame. You don’t want it loose and moving around upsetting your balance and potentially damaging the frame. Worse yet you wouldn’t want the straps to fail completely and bag fall from the frame when you least expect it. Put your heaviest food items at the bottom of your frame bag during long-distance rides. Placing the heaviest food in your frame bag first keeps the center of gravity lower, which helps ensure your bike steers well.
