Wet Leg was recorded and produced in the main by Speedy Wunderground’s Dan Carey (“Chaise Longue” and “Angelica” were produced by Jon McMullen and Josh Mobaraki respectively). The album was mostly recorded in London, in April 2021, meaning they had a finished album before the world had even heard debut single “Chaise Longue” or played live. "I guess how it happened was unconventional," admits Hester. The new release outsold the rest of the Top 5 combined, earning them the second-biggest opening week for any chart-topping album in 2022 at the time. Spoken-word poet and rapper Kae Tempest earns their first Top 10 entry with This Line Is A Curve (8), while Camila Cabello’s third album Familia (9) becomes her second Top 10 hit. It was their first official release as Wet Leg, since forming in 2019 and signing with indie label Domino (Arctic Monkeys, Georgia, Blood Orange). Of course, the amount of press that Teasdale and Chambers have attracted since their breakthrough has made some question the validity of their innocuous rise. But these criticisms tend to miss the point about Wet Leg in the first place - that the duo's creations were and still are made for their own amusement, and no-one else's.

In October, The Island outfit lost out to the Islington-born musician, Little Simz, in the album of the year category at the Mercury Music Prize awards.
