About this deal

Dec 21 – YULE / Winter Solstice: The real reason that this time of year was celebrated .. before christianity existed. We are halfway through the dark part of the year. The darkness is at its peak…moving forward the light begins to grow stronger and days become longer. You can see why the newly formed cult of christianity, which is what it was at the time, choose this time of year for the birth of christ…the light grows strong and brighter…the Sun is reborn. Yule traditions include burning a Yule log, kissing under mistletoe, and placing an evergreen tree in your home to represent the sustaining of life during the winter. Delta Aquariids Meteor – This meteor shower occurs between July 18 to August 21. It is expected to peak on July 30th. Most civilizations came to this realization and celebrate this holiday in some from The Day of the Dead in Mexico to Diwali in Hinduism to modern-day Halloween. I typically focus on the spiritual intentions of the Pagan Holiday and modernize it to fit into my spiritual practices today (this is sometimes referred to as Pagan reconstructionism). Wiccans celebrate Imbolc as the first day of Spring. It’s also known as Candlemas, Saint Brigid’s Day, and Imbolg. This festival is all about marking the growing of the light. As Wiccans, we often mark it by lighting candles. The Goddess, who has been sleeping since she gave birth during the Yule sabbat, now awakens.

Rituals tend to involve wine and feasting. Celebrations tend to be larger, involving friends and family. Rituals help center you and reflect on the good things.

Krampusnacht – Eastern European and other Germanic people celebrate ‘Krampus night.’ every year. Krampus is a horned, beastly creature that terrorizes children who have been naughty. Over the last decade, this holiday has grown in popularity and is now celebrated to one degree or another in all of Europe and America. The light is fading, and the dark is setting in. This month is a great time to reflect on your own roots and where you came from. Take time to honor your ancestor as the veil between the worlds thins. Be open to receiving psychic messages, meditation and journaling.

Yule/Yuletide – the most important of all Norse holidays during the darkest of nights. It has a duration of 12 nights, starting at sundown on the night of the winter solstice. The Celts and other tribes in western Europe adopted the traditions of Yule, but no one is really sure why; holidays were usually culture specific in ancient times. Yule is widely considered the basis for modern-day Christmas. Lyle, Emily (2008). "Time and the Indo-European Gods in the Slavic Context" (PDF). Studia Mythologica Slavica. 11: 115–126. doi: 10.3986/sms.v11i0.1691. Harvey, Graham (2000). "1: Celebrating the Seasons". Contemporary Paganism: Listening People, Speaking Earth. NYU Press. pp.6–8. ISBN 0-8147-3549-5. Saturnalia – The most popular of all ancient Roman holiday’s. The Agriculture God Saturn is honored from the 17th through the 23rd. Many of the traditions of this holiday are considered the source of modern-day traditions of Christmas, including wreaths, candles, feasting and exchanging of gifts.

Full Hunter’s Moon (2:24 PM, MST) – After the harvests were finished, the people would head to the forests to hunt for meat to store for the winter. The October full moon is also called the Dying Grass Moon, the Sanguine Moon, the Travel Moon, and the Blood Moon, even when there is no eclipse.Practices vary, but sacrifice offerings, feasting, and gift giving are common elements of Midwinter festivities. Bringing sprigs and wreaths of evergreenery (such as holly, ivy, mistletoe, yew, and pine) into the home and tree decorating are also common during this time. [16] [18] [19] Full Wolf Moon (4:08 PM, MST) – January’s full moon is called the Wolf Moon. The very cold air carried the howling of hungry wolves across many miles. Other names include the Spirit Moon, Greeting Moon, Cold Moon, Hard Moon, Frost Moon, and the Center Moon. But life in ancient times was based on the seasons, and the Four Greater Sabbats mark the seasons. It makes sense that Samhain would be considered most important because it aligns with the shortening of the day and the descent of the sun. a b Leeming, David (2005). "A-Z Entries". The Oxford Companion to World Mythology. New York, New York: Oxford University Press. p. 360. ISBN 0-19-515669-2. Ritual Function: Balance elemental air energy, and shadow work for the virtues and vices of Gemini.
