The Brambly Hedge Complete Collection (1999; later reprints & new editions) — 1 slipcased volume (8.9x11.5in) Tutti sono in fermento, chi a scavare gallerie nella neve, chi a cucinare tante prelibatezze.

Poppy is very busy and overworked looking after her babies. Mr Apple and many other mice help clean and refurbish some his old rooms for the naming ceremony, trying to keep it a secret surprise for Poppy. After a lot of work, the new house is ready for the celebration. Despite our concerns about the condition of the tree, it was deemed to be in very good health considering the damage, with plenty of new growth in the upper branches,” he said. The City of London Corporation, which looks after Epping Forest, “are now aware of its little literary connection”. The four stories were originally published separately, but here's an introduction of the author about the origins and developments of the stories. The Secret Staircase (1983) – Primrose and Wilfred go up to the attic on their own to practice reciting the Mid-Winter Poem for an important performance.A tale where a grandiose palace of ice and a warm fireside kitchen are equally honored in the life of the community.

The Complete Brambly Hedge (1999) — 1 volume, produced for The Book People/Ted Smart by HarperCollins (7.75x10in) It was the most beautiful morning. The spring sunshine crept into every cottage along Brambly Hedge, and the little windows in the trees were opened wide." It is easily the most magical and fantastical of the Brambly Hedge seasonal stories - the Ice Hall is gorgeous and the later illustrations in this book benefit from its majestic blue-green pillars and high ceilings. And, in typical Brambly fashion, the more mundane scenes of kitchens and storerooms are just as impressive. It would not be a Brambly book without at least two kitchen illustrations, and this book has some of my favorites. This is the only seasonal Brambly book to be set mostly at night, which gives the illustrations a warm and magical quality. Spring Story (1980) – Wilfred Toadflax enjoys a picnic and a surprise for his birthday at Bluebell Bank. The first four seasonal books were produced in audio form; one hour narrated by John Moffatt. Audiobooks and CDs are marketed under the titles The Brambly Hedge Collection (2005) and A Year in Brambly Hedge (2014).

Brambly Hedge is a series of illustrated children's books by Jill Barklem, recounting the adventures of a community of mice who live together in the tranquil surroundings of the English countryside. The writer described Brambly Hedge as a loving and caring society. The tales involve conflict resolution within nature or exploration, and/or the adventures of working together to achieve a common goal. There are no unkind characters or predators. The Four Seasons of Brambly Hedge was one of my favorite books when I was little. Those little mice were the cutest thing ever, their adventures were always dreamy and the illustrations were phenomenal. Summer Story (1980) – The mice celebrate a special wedding, and everyone takes part in the preparations. Midwinter's Day is coming. Primrose and Wilfred are assigned to recite the Midwinter Poem, and they discover a secret staircase concealed in the attic and many old rooms within. They finally stumble down a secret tunnel making it in time for the Midwinter celebrations, but they keep the old rooms a secret. The Enchanted World of Brambly Hedge is a stop-motion animated series based on the eight Brambly Hedge books by Jill Barklem. The show was produced by HIT Entertainment; in the United States, episodes began airing on the Starz premium channel in 1997. [2] Cast [ edit ] Character

Take a look at these illustrations.. It's dreamy, isn't it? This book had the power to make me wander with my imagination with those little mice. I was one of them and their adventures and life happenings were truly the best. When the residents of Brambly Hedge - a community of woodland mice all living together in a small settlement on the other side of the stream, across the field... amongst the tangled roots and stems" - wake up one winter morning and find their world has been blanketed in fresh snow, they respond in their usual fashion: by working, and then celebrating as a group. Digging tunnels to connect all the residences of the hedge with one another, and with the Store Stump, they decide to honor the traditions of the ancestors, and hold a Snow Ball... This book is hella wholesome and cute. I had a blast reading it. It amused me how the mice are constantly finding reasons to party, and it was just adorbs how excitedly the mice band together to celebrate, have fun and help each other. The best thing about this book is definitely the beautiful art by Barklem. The illustrations are so intricate, detailed, cute and I could spend hours looking at them. I love the way she drew her characters, their outfits and their homes in the trees. We very much hope that visitors to Epping Forest can retrace Mum’s steps through the forest at High Beech, and hopefully find inspiration from the landscape through the seasons, just as she did all those years ago.” As I said above, we follow the activities of the Brambly Hedge community of field mice through the seasons. Small and big events happen, someone gets lost, there's a wedding, they create a winter ball with ice skating. And a great deal of food is involved. A Year in Brambly Hedge (2010) — 4 book box set containing the seasonal first four books (5.75x6.93in)

The Brambly Hedge Treasury (1999) — 1 volume containing The Secret Staircase, The High Hills, and an introduction with select illustrations from the first four books (~8.5x11 in) They carefully make the most amazing courses and joyfully eat fantastic meals. It's wonderful and I was in love. I don’t think I’d realized how much I imprinted on the visual style and artistic themes until I saw them again as an adult. The rich yet soft colors! The light and shadow! The natural themes! The ornate and intricate detail-filled pictures! The cutaway views of houses built into trees and stumps! The food! The books, whose first titles were published in 1980, are written and illustrated by Barklem. The first four books follow the seasonal pattern of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Her later four books follow the mice's various adventures and activities. Autumn Story (1980) – Primrose Woodmouse wanders off and finds herself in uncharted territory. Will anyone ever find her as the storm rages? Poppy and Dusty have seen other so often. Dusty wishes to propose to Poppy. Wilfred and Primrose try to bring the couple together. Finally comes the day of the wedding. Unfortunately, Wilfred's blunder causes the wedding raft to drift down the stream, away from the bride, but Wilfred eventually manages to catch the raft and the wedding is saved.I guess I always come to these books expecting some kind of conflict - which is typically a given element of any story. Yet I'm realizing that the Brambly stories are more concerned with recording the doings of a community rather than creating some grand narrative. If you're looking for main characters, there really aren't any, and the mice go about their business with no hinderances, delays, or natural predators. Instead, this is an ensemble piece showing a warm, rustic, and healthy community that comes together around the two great unifying factors: food, and dance. Of any of the seasonal stories, this entry probably depicts those factors the best, as it's entirely devoted to showing the effort it takes to prepare for a grand ball, and how that effort is handsomely rewarded. The four seasons were originally released as individual volumes in a miniature format (17.6×14.6cm / 5.7×6.9in). The next two, The Secret Staircase and The High Hills, were published as full-sized books (24×19.5cm / 7.6×9.5in). The last two books, Sea Story and Poppy's Babies, were released in the miniature format (17.6×14.6cm / 5.7×6.9in). Many later collections have all books in a larger format. The books are published by HarperCollins Children's Books in the United Kingdom and United States.
