About this deal

I was annoyed with how the American characters in this book did not sound American at all. They sounded just as English as Keira. This really ruffled my feathers. Why bother making this take place in a country that you have no idea how to show a reflection of? Dear, sweet merciful Jesus, where even to begin, to start untangling the catastrophic mess that is this novel.

During a very intense scene in which Keira had to be healed by Draven, she was able to see him in his true form for the first time. He tried to pass it off as a hallucination, because she just isn’t ready for the truth. To me, the only way this makes sense is if her ability to sometimes see them is unknown to Draven and Co. Also, why was it such a big deal anyway if she had already been seeing demons her whole life? I can’t decide if Draven and Co. knew about that or not. However later in the book (a few weeks maybe) he mentions that he knows about her gift of painting the demons away so I don’t know if he found out about it later or if he knew at the time of the hallucination conversation. I have a problem with a book that introduces a specific subject as a big deal but then doesn’t do anything else with it. I also cannot stand it when there is a contradiction of the facts which this might have been, or it just might not have been clarified enough creating what looks like a contradiction of the facts but which might not be really. And I must admit, it's been amazing! Now, I felt that the book started a weeee bit slow. It had a bit of a slow burn to it, a lot of secrets...mystery... what was Kiera's past...? And so forth. This book begins with Draven and Kiera. She is still having nightmares but can't explain the details. Kiera is cryptic with her use of she and I as she rambled about stuff we don't understand yet. Who is this, Katie, and what does she have to do with Kiera? I'm thoroughly confused now. I made it a little over half way. Which is longer than most of the books I have been reading lately. So, I think that I gave it a fair chance before giving up on this horrible...idea.

Afterlife is an opulent Gothic nightclub that belongs in a big city, not in the small town of Evergreen Falls…Just like its forbidding owner does, Dominic Draven.

Dominic Draven has a brother named Vincent, and we get the first look at his story in the Kings of Afterlife series. This sadly has yet to be finished as it only has the first book in the series complete and it leaves us with a big cliffhanger. This particular series may also later include stories from some of the other immortal kings and quite possibly Sophia’s story as well. Once again I loved this book and can't wait for the next. I got to see another side of Draven that I haven't seen in any of the other books and although I was a bit confused of the whole 'Katie is actually Keira' concept, I was still loving every moment of this journey. However what I did not like about this book particularly is that now it seems everyone will soon have an electus and that Vincent was willing to just throw Katie/Keira into danger to save his own chosen one (who btw he has never met before) I liked how in the other books every man she meets sorta falls in love with her and Vincent was one of those men, he loved Keira but I guess not very much due to his actions. I forgive him though, my loves in this book is Draven and Lucius.Kiera does not evolve at all, her character does not grow out of this self pity that she always falls into. The contradictions made little sense all together and made it extremely difficult to follow the story. At first Kiera loves her sister's house, next thing she say's it's creepy. She moved to give herself a 'new life' away from her past, and her scars, describing how people take extra care around her because she is emotionally fragile. But, the emotional fragility is nowhere in sight, as her mind is focused on gossip and trivial nonsense, like outfits and clubbing. When it focuses on something else it's on a guy. Kiera in one chapter loves hiking and the outdoors, in the next chapter is a clumsy person that isn't focused on physical exertion. She is this fragile flower, and an introvert that also leaves her phone number to the first person she meets, and goes clubbing. She is supposed to be shy and socially awkward, but then gets a job working nights as a waitress in the hottest club in town. See where i am going with this? How the hell am i supposed to know who is this character, if the author herself had no idea??? I admittedly skimmed alot of the descriptions and feelings as the author does tend to go on a bit and repeat herself on certain things, with a minor adjustment... Also wasn't keen on the new sister appearing felt a bit Dawn/Buffy which put me off that t.v series.... hence the 4 stars.

Our main character flips out and misconstrues everything that Draven does. I mean come on. Why is she fighting so hard for someone who wants to just possess her and doesn't change at all through 4 books? Not only in the above instance but in several places it’s hard to know if what’s going on is a dream or really happening. Is there a sequel planned? Yes, the author has announced that there will be a sequel to “Afterlife: Dark Fantasy Romance”. Stay tuned for future releases in the Afterlife Saga. One of the most popular characters in the whole series was Pip. We got two books dedicated to Pip and Adam called The Shadow Imp series.
