About this deal

I have been using apple keyboards all my professional work time and have never expected what it means to work on a keyboard that is as heavy and rigid as this one! I usually start the first impression section talking about what the unboxing experience was like. Since it was over two years ago, I don’t have a clear image in my head of what it was like but I have a vague recollection. Filco is a Japanese keyboard brand well-known for manufacturing some of the highest-end prebuilt keyboards in the market. Their flagship product, the Majestouch 2, debuted in 2011 and has set the bar for high-end mechanical keyboards. They are also very popular in South Korea and are used by countless Starcraft Pro gamers. But, if you don’t abuse the cable like I have, it’ll be just fine and I don’t think you’ll have any issues at all with it.

The Majestouch 2 Convertible supports both USB and PS/2 wired connections, and can pair with up to four concurrent Bluetooth devices. Four DIP switches on the base let the user: [1] Now work from one side of the front to the other. (The keyboard must be turned 180 degrees so the spacebar is away from you.) FILCO are renowned for their excellent build quality and this keyboard is really built like a Challenger 2 tank. This is probably the most solid overall feeling keyboard I’ve ever tried.

This wear and tear is starting to concern me ever so slightly, I’m worried it’ll eventually (a couple more years yet) wear through and stop working. I think a braided cable may have helped in this scenario. The Majestouch 3 comes with the addition on multimedia keys on select keys on the F-row, which is a handy upgrade over the previous generation, but otherwise features no other notable features - no RGB lighting, no software or hardware macro buttons, and certainly nothing like analogue key switches, OLED screens or volume knobs that we're seeing in a wide range of mainstream keyboards these days. Don’t get me wrong, the box is made with good quality, strong cardboard that should hopefully protect the keyboard whilst in transit, it’s just a bit boring in terms of the unboxing experience. The drop test didn’t cause any concerns, the + key came off on the number pad side, but it didn’t damage the switch under neath it.

According to the official product info, the "PC board got all renewed! It devliers you a better duration, quality and typing feel! Double layers is adopted for a new board. Through a hole of each switch has been firmly soldered. With this, it can release any excess load or vibration that you make when you type in to a board not only to a metal plate inside. It enables you to enjoy a better typing feel!" Filco lives up to the standards that are set by other Japanese brands. Everything from the quality to the durability of their keyboards is top-notch. The very first Majestouch keyboard was released in December 2004. The keyboard unsurprisingly sported a Japanese layout and used Cherry MX Brown switches. Well that is great. But I can be short about this. I compared this to a Majestouch 1 keyboard with Cherry MX Blues (see picture below), and without opening her up, I could find no difference in feel or otherwise whatsoever.

With this, it can release any excess load or vibration that you make when you type in to a board not only to a metal plate inside. It enables you to enjoy a better typing feel! Filco keyboards are produced by Diatec Corporation of Japan. The company is based out of Chiyoda-ku in Tokyo. Diatec’s focus is on the Japanese, Korean and Chinese markets so it relies on distributors like The Keyboard Company to handle sales in Europe and the United States. The Majestouch 2 has a very minimalistic design. It doesn’t feature RGB, media keys, volume wheels, or macro keys. Instead, it looks very similar to a typical keyboard. Its aesthetics make it look very professional and will fit in any kind of desk setup. Compared to the keyboards I'm used to, this is a superb product! The keyboard feels solid and well-built. It does not slip around on my desk. The legs don't look like they'll break in two weeks. The keys feel weighty and are a joy to type on. The Cherry Browns are not as loud as Blues, and I have not heard any complaints from co-workers. Which is good, because I plan to use this keyboard for a long time. I have noticed that my typing speed has increased after using this keyboard.

As for the second reason that we have stated, Filco keyboards do not offer modern enthusiast-grade features. Most models do not offer a removable cable, and all of their keyboards do not feature hot-swap, aluminum cases, and other common custom keyboard trends found in today’s market. I spoke with Bruce who was most helpful and didn't try to hard sell any particular keyboard. If in doubt speak to the team. It’s easily the best keyboard I’ve ever used and for that, it gets a 9 / 10. Get those ABS key caps replaced and the option for a braided cable it’d be a 10/10 from me. More Tech Review Content

In 2010, the market suddenly shifted into mechanical keyboards. Gaming companies such as Razer and Logitech G adopted this key switch technology and started marketing them towards casual consumers.
