About this deal

I'd like to take a moment to thank this book: You have raised my expectations for love so high (I now want to be transported to a Fae realm and get thrown into a river by a hot and mysterious Fae prince who hates that he loves me.) and you have taught me so much about myself (why do I like his tail) and life. I know nothing about Tiernan or Hyacinthe or whatever their names are, so I don't know what to say about those two. This new instalment in the Folk of the Airseries is a return to the heart-racing romance, danger, humour and drama that enchanted readers everywhere. Each chapter is paired with lavish and luminous full-colour art, making this the perfect collector’s item to be enjoyed by audiences both new and old.

The Cruel Prince (2018) is the first book in the series. It follows Jude Duarte, a mortal girl living in Elfhame, a faerie world. Swept against her will to Elfhame, Jude must adapt to living alongside powerful creatures with a deep disdain for humans and a penchant for violent delights while also figuring out her feelings for faerie prince Cardan Greenbriar. [3] A prince of Faerie, nourished on cat milk and contempt, born into a family overburdened with heirs, and a nasty little prophesy hanging over his head — since the hour of Cardan’s birth, he has been alternately adored and despised. Perhaps it’s no surprise that he turned out the way he did; the only surprise is that he managed to become the High King of Elfhame anyway. this book put me into an awful reading slump that caused me to have to read TWO of my favorite rom-coms, not even just one. I suppose I would have plummeted out of the air,” Jude tells him with troubling equanimity, her expression saying, Horrible risks are entirely normal to me .first of all, I LOVE Cardan and Jude, ugh Jude my woman I loved her personality she's a woman who knows what she wants and she was strong, brave and powerful. I just loved her so much, and I really enjoyed the whole series, but as an individual!! the first book "the cruel prince" was a bit confusing and.... I won't say boring but it was slow?? idk all that cloth description really pissed me off haha :D but still, I really really enjoyed this series it's one of my favourites. it's actually what got me to BookTok (yes I'm new). my love Cardan uff I love him SO MUCH, He's all I want. Perfect Perfect Perfect. I really loved his personality he's definitely my type haha. Unfortunately, as a university student, I can't buy all the books I wish to read in one go, so I waited and waited until one of my closest friends handed me the other two (I had to read 'How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories' in a pdf file, I will be buying the whole collection, unfortunately, can't do it just now) so I took my copy of TCP and the other two books with me to my family summer vacation. I re-read TCP, which took me 2/3 days since I was early morning and afternoon on the beach, and the other two I started and finished on the same day, yes I stayed home all day and read, best vacation day by far. TWK in the morning, TQON in the afternoon, physically couldn't put them down, even forgot to eat.

How Cardan begins to notice Jude more and more, developing feelings for her without being able to identify what they are. The Folk of the Air series has been reprinted into special editions by multiple companies including, illumicate, Fairyloot, and Barnes and Noble. In 2022 Litjoy also announced the complete special editions of The Folk of Air series. Characters- Although am not a fan of Oak and Wren as much as I was of Cardan and Jude and they don't create the same magic as them, I still appreciated their zeal. Tho Oak tries too hard and Wren is a complex character, I liked their dynamics.

The next morning, Cardan learns that his brother was killed by Jude in a duel. Orlagh arrives to have Cardan account for why her Ambassador was killed. Cardan accepts no blame because it was not his wish for his brother to die. Orlagh knows it was Jude and demands justice. She threatens war, and he threatens to use his powers over nature that being the High King of Elfhame grants him. He can control the land under all of the water, and to prove this, he creates a new island to emerge from the water. As he does this, Cardan traps Nicasia in a tree, and Orlagh relents in exchange for Cardan releasing her daughter. Cardan requests Nicasia stay behind on the land to serve as an ambassador. To further appease Orlagh and maintain peace with the Undersea, Cardan exiles Jude to the mortal world. She protests that he cannot do this because she is the Queen of Elfhame, but she is laughed at and dismissed. Ultimately, Jude goes to live with Vivi and Oak in the mortal world.

This was short, sweet, wonderful, amazing, splendiferous, incredible, awesome, and my brain is frozen right now so I can't think of any other words. Ending- I liked it a lot, especially the betrayal that came with it. That makes me look forward to the next book in the duology. Elowyn Greenbriar: Daughter of Eldred; Sister to Balekin, Dain, Rhyia, Caelia and half-sister to Cardan; Killed by Balekin As I was reading, I would often stop to just soak in the illustrations. They truly brought these stories to life and gave them the magical quality of an old-time fairy tale. Rovina Cai’s art is truly so beautiful that it renders me speechless. I was already in love with her and her art because of her work with The Wayward Children series, but this entire book feels like am immersive work of art. From the perfect color palette, to the most perfect details, she executes the vibe of Cardan and his story in a way that I don’t think another artist could.Edit again again: I just read the exclusive first chapter for this and oh my gosh. Also I heard Jurdan doesn't show up till book 2?? I can't wait until the second book ughh. Also I heard something about a Jurdan baby??? Don't take this from me, I've just heard it around. I'm unsure how I feel about it. On one hand, I don't think Cardan and Jude would have a baby. On the other....I wouldn't mind it if they did. I don't know lol i need this in my hands,,,, like right now preferably. WE GONNA SEE SOFT CARDAN IM NOT READY. we're gonna see cardan crushing on Jude,,, thinking she's beautiful,,, being in love with her At first, the narrative doesn’t seem very cohesive. It begins with Cardan and Jude, already High King and Queen, flying to the mortal world to deal with an issue that’s just come up. After that brief introduction, we return to Cardan as a child, unloved by his family and ignored by everyone else. Next, we see him move in with and begin to be abused by his brother Balekin, because he has nowhere else to go. We see his relationship with Nicasia blossom, then wither and die. Finally, we return to him and Jude in the mortal world. Ultimately, this collection shows us Cardan’s journey to being a better person, not, as I’d expected, through his relationship with Jude, but through his relationship with this story. He starts out as a little boy who only wants love. He becomes a villain, consumed by hate because it makes him feel strong. I won’t tell you who he turns into in the end, because I encourage you to find out for yourself. Funny how I hate angst until it's Cardan being angsty, and that angst involves him scribbling a certain Jude Duarte's name over and over again while ink drips onto his clothes but he's too busy pining over Jude to care.

Eldred Greenbriar: Former high king; Father to Balekin, Elowyn, Dain, Rhiya, Caelia and Cardan; Killed by Balekin When they return to Heather’s apartment, they watch a movie about a terrible family in a big, old house and the beautiful and clever nurse who inherits everything." Nothing in the entire world will ever beat Cardan and Jude. You're probably thinking "Avery, stop comparing the two, they aren't supposed to be alike!!" and to that I say, I cannot stop myself and I honestly do not care anymore 😊 Each part, each mini story, we get to see Cardan questioning who he is and who he wants to be. Not to make this too deep, but Cardan very slowly realizes that he is not responsible for the terrible acts his family committed; both to him and to the people they ruled over. He struggles with his identity of a prince who should feel like he has everything, and a boy who feels like he has nothing. But seeing him finally understand that he deserves not only love but unconditional love? Him slowly appreciating that his heart can be warm and beat unapologetically? Truly some powerful stuff. The Folk adore Cardan, and they’re terrified of my sister, two excellent things. I hope they rule Elfhame for years and then pass it down to one of a dozen offspring. No need for me to be involved.”

I think another factor that put me into the slump was the pacing. The beginning of this book just felt really slow- this is a traveling book which I typically have mixed feelings about because I like concrete settings and characters, and it really annoyed me in this one, which led into me having a slump.
