About this deal

Beveridge added: “I find older whiskies fascinating to work with. The great whiskies I’ve selected for this blend have undergone a slow, easy maturation through at least 18 cold winters and warm summers. It’s a long time to wait but these whiskies have a wonderful balance.

The Diageo Archive will be gathering stories – and the Pimm’s and Balmoral Platinum Edition bottles - from this historic moment to place alongside a treasured collection of pictures, documents and items from royal celebrations over the decades, including the first bottles and advertising to carry Her Majesty The Queen’s Royal Warrant, a picture of Her Majesty in Scotland during the 1953 Coronation tour, and the John Walker & Sons Diamond Jubilee Blended Scotch Whisky, the legacy of which continues to support excellence in British craftsmanship through the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust. Johnnie Walker Aged 18 Years is presented in a newly-designed, “sophisticated” bottle with gold detailing. Different kinds of glasses and different temperatures will affect the flavor—as will the addition of water or ice. In terms of receptacles, you really want a solid heavy-bottomed tumbler, or a snifter—a tulip-shaped glass. Next up, we have Johnnie Walker’s Red Label, which is the world’s best-selling Scotch whisky due its bold, characterful flavour and accessible price point.By blending different single malts and grain whiskies from different regions of Scotland, the brand is able to create different flavor profiles, from sweet and smooth to smoky and peaty. Also joining company ranks was a new Johnnie Walker logo. The ‘Striding Man’, a flamboyant dandy-like figure—complete with a top hat, monocle, and cane—has since become the iconic symbol of Johnnie Walker whisky. More recently, Johnnie Walker launched three special Johnnie Walker Game of Thrones editions in collaboration with the HBO series: Johnnie Walker White Walker, Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice, and Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire. How to drink Johnnie Walker Now, let’s fast forward to the present and introduce the successor, the Johnnie Walker Platinum Label. This gem marked the first addition to the Johnnie Walker “colour” series in a while. Initially launched in Travel Retail, it soon became widely available and earned its place next to the coveted Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

The Johnnie Walker Platinum Label is more of a luxury Scotch. Each of the whiskies used in the blend is at least 18 years old, and it’s perfect for drinking straight with just a little water or ice. The predecessor to Blue Label was a product called ‘Oldest,’ released in 1987 and replaced when Johnnie Walker Blue Label was launched in 1992. And Johnnie Walker Platinum 18 Year Old was released in 2012.Both Johnnie Walker Platinum 18 Year Old and Johnnie Walker Blue Label are blended scotch whiskies. They are produced by combining single malt scotch whiskies made at various Diageo plants across Scotland with the single grain whiskies made at its large Lowland distilleries. By the mid 20th century, Johnnie Walker was available in 120 countries around the world, and the company was even granted a Royal Warrant to supply whisky to the British royal family. Readers outside the United States may be familiar with Johnnie Walker Swing, a blended scotch product in a rounded glass bottle. Johnnie Walker is perfect for making Whisky Sours because it is milder than single malts and pairs perfectly with lemon. The Johnnie Walker Platinum Label whisky was the first new ‘colour’ to be released in many years, and it was initially introduced only into the travel retail. This release was brought out to replace the iconic Johnnie Walker Gold Label whisky and fits in next to the Johnnie Walker Blue Label. With a mix of malts around 18 years old, it is Diageo’s competing product in the 18 yo single malt market.

In September 2021, Diageo launched the Johnnie Walker Experience building in Edinburgh to take advantage of the growing scotch tourism trend. However, readers should note this is not an active production facility but rather an immersive multimedia experience used as an educational tool to educate guests about the brand’s history and tradition. Maturation Nose — Iodine and peat, oak and sherry, corn sweetness, ripe fruit, raisins, toffee, honey, cigar box and sandalwood. Palate: Sweet and easy to drink. Creamy and dry. Delicate. Notes of sweet cream, warm cinnamon rolls, grapefruit zest (which I normally despise, but find pleasant in this context). Smoke arrives quite late. The finish is soft, slow, and lightly smoky, with lingering malt notes and a hint of pipe tobacco. Conclusion: You can drink Johnnie Walker neat—as the most ardent whisky fans would advise. Or you can add a drop or two of water to open up the flavors and decrease the intensity of the alcohol.

Single malt scotch whisky products must be made from 100 percent malted barley. Single grain scotch whisky products can be made from various grains, a proportion of which will contain malted barley. The ‘single’ in both single malt and single grain is not a reference to the mash bill but an indicator that the whisky was made at a single distillery.
