About this deal

It's a beautiful day in Kamigawa as you ride your neon-wheeled motorcycle through the city center. Even in the daylight, the many neon signs glow bright with a magical aura, and you see a being made entirely of noodles walk into a coffee shop. You smile and brake for a group of Jukai historians crossing the street before maneuvering your bike into a park bursting with Japanese maple trees. Red leaves float through the air, and one lands on your picnic basket as you lift it and a blanket from your saddle bags. You settle on the bank of the river, close enough to the water to remove your boots and dip your toes in. As you do, water rises and begins to take shape. It's the river kami, and you're just in time for your lunch plans together. Nothing says "the future" like neon, and neon glows brightly in the cities of Kamigawa. This is reflected in the soft glow treatment with its neon frame. The main difference between set and collector boosters is that collector boosters have more rares and are more expensive, but every card has a different treatment, be it unique/alternate art or foil. You’ll get more extended art versions or alternate art versions this way. This means that 23.4% of the time (so just under one fourth of the time) you will open at least one extra rare or mythic rare in the Set Booster, and that's just from the wildcard slots. We have yet another way to get an extra rare coming up.

Welcome to Card Crate, a dedicated online store created by Magic players to serve Magic players. We know how frustrating it can sometimes be to source the cards you need from other online stores. That is why our mission is to make buying cards simple, reliable and stress free. The Japanese influence in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty is strong, and the set establishes a dramatic meeting of tradition and modernity. Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty's Booster Fun treatments revel in that thematic nexus, and the results are beautiful, evocative, and just plain awesome. You can also find a new type of foil in Kamigawa—a special neon ink treatment silkscreened on top of traditional foil, making for an extra-vibrant, uniquely gorgeous effect. Hidetsugu, Devouring Chaos claimed all of the neon ink in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty—Hidetsugu is the only card that appears with the neon ink treatment. The thing we had to keep in mind was this new type of booster wasn't a Draft Booster. We weren't beholden to any of the rules dictated by the needs of Draft (or Sealed). For example, we didn't have to have exactly fifteen cards. We didn't have to have a set number of commons, uncommons, and rares or mythic rares. We were also free to experiment with putting cards in the booster that weren't game pieces. We could do whatever we wanted (provided, of course, that it had cards from the set in it). Lisa Hanson, along with the Print Innovation Team, explored new foil and print treatments, some of which debut in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty.

We've wanted to use ukiyo-e style for a while but knew Kamigawa was the perfect spot," said Creative Manager Tom Jenkot. We begin with the Welcome section, which has eight slots. Its purpose is to welcome you to the booster. This is the most expensive type of a booster, as it has the highest chance for valuable cards. Neon Dynasty Theme Boosters

But wait. Have you read the fiction yet? If not, and you don't want any spoilers, pause your reading here and jump over to see what's going down in the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty storyline. Hidetsugu is the infamous Ogre who merged with the All-Devouring Oni of Chaos, becoming a demon himself and the envy of Kamigawan cultists. His return in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty embodies that theme of the old meeting the new, and he's sporting some sweet new ink. The best between set and collector boosters depends on your budget, intentions, and what you expect from each product. Best Set Boosters Streets of New Capenna Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty is at the bleeding edge of enhanced treatments for Magic cards. Every rare and mythic rare in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty has an alternate version. You'll find special lands, Ninjas, and Samurai showing off their skills, a glowing new frame, and new technology for new treatments below. In Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, we're using foil etching to emphasize Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty's other showcase frames. Twelve cards were carefully curated to receive the foil-etched treatment. There are one rare and four mythic rare foil-etched cards in the soft glow frame, one rare and two mythic rare foil-etched cards in the Ninja frame, one rare and one mythic rare foil-etched cards in the Samurai frame, and two foil-etched mythic rares in the Phyrexian frame. You'll be able to open them exclusively in Collector Boosters. There are also 21 Samurai creatures in Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, plus The Wandering Emperor planeswalker. Each Samurai has an alternate version with new art in the Samurai frame: Here's a little teaser of three cards from The List that will appear in Zendikar Rising Set Boosters. The next six slots are dedicated to commons and uncommons. In a Draft Booster, commons and uncommons exist in a certain ratio to ensure we have the proper as-fan for Limited play. They are also color balanced to make the set draft properly. None of those are concerns for the Set Booster. So, here's what we've done. We're using the commons and uncommons to show off something cool about the set. These six slots in each Set Booster will be grouped in such a way that each card of the same rarity has something to do with the card next to it. Maybe the connection is a creature type, or the cards play well together, or they have some story element in common. We're experimenting with all kinds of connections. Part of the fun of opening this section of cards is trying to see what connection we've made.

The Wanderer is able to save them, and the three band together to save Kamigawa and stop the evil on their doorstep. But the story doesn't end there. The Wanderer disappeared as her spark took hold of her, and Tezzeret took Jin-Gitaxias through a portal after Tamiyo. Two, every Set Booster is guaranteed at least one uncommon in these six slots, but each common has the potential to upgrade to an uncommon. That means these six slots in the Set Booster will range from five commons and one uncommon to zero commons and six uncommons. Here are the percentages: To introduce the Set Booster to you, I'm going to walk you through the booster one slot at a time just as you would experience it as you open it. With each slot, I'll explain what that slot holds. This time, we have the distinct displeasure of encountering Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant in all his Phyrexian frame horror: The artist selection for this was very important," said Tom. "You'll see that many of these artists have done work for Magic already. This is also a nice nod to the traditional Kamigawa, something that is prevalent throughout the set—albeit neon lit now. We also wanted these to be typeset in Japanese only, adding the authentic quality." Soft Glow TreatmentWe wanted to use a print treatment to enhance the theme of this set," said Senior Creative Art Director Lisa Hanson, who oversaw print treatments. "Neon ink was an obvious choice. We spent some time trying out different ways to incorporate neon ink into the frame and art before landing on the final treatment.

You can find all the soft glow cards, including the Sagas, in Set, Draft, and Collector Boosters, in both non-foil as well as traditional foil. Ninja Treatment The Set Booster has been designed to look very different from Draft Boosters, so you'll be able to clearly tell them apart. Here's what the Zendikar Rising Set Booster will look like. On top of ninjas, we're also being treated to 21 samurai creatures (plus the Wandering planeswalker) in Kamigawa, each of which will have a Samurai alternate up for grabs! These feature Japanese-style alternate art and a sharp frame similar to the Ninja treatment. Ninja Frame As gifted as those three artists are, the amount of art needed for the set required lots of additional talent. "We had a great opportunity to partner with Kogado Studios in Japan for this project," said Daniel.Hidetsugu was chosen as an appealing card both mechanically and flavorfully for the neon ink treatment," said Daniel. "It's been 1,200 years since the original Kamigawa setting, but Hidetsugu is one of the few characters to play a role in both timelines." Collector Boosters are the best way to collect variant rares and mythic rares, as well as foil cards, and they're the only place to collect foil-etched, extended-art, and neon ink cards.
