The name Momento Zero, absolutely evoking, means a new beginning, a start from scratch; the first pen made by a new company, based on experience and passion of a strong team. The Leonardo Momento Zero collection is inspired by the world-renowne Italian vintage style. It is a classic pen, perfectly sized and well balanced, decorated with metal trims. And the story goes on ... A family tradition. Leonardo is a forge, a laboratory where experience and craftsmanship are mixed giving life to "pleasure", the pleasure of writing. The Magico's piston knob adds a 5mm difference to the overall length of the pen. This difference is negligible when writing cap posted or cap in hand. Thanks to the pen's lightweight construction and balanced profile, the Magico feels just as comfortable as the Zero. The Momento Zero Grande pens come with an in-house designed and created 1.5 ml piston fill mechanism. The size of the piston capacity is one of the largest available. I like the large ink capacity. I can fill up the pen and take it for a serious writing excercise! Cap Band A few months ago, I did a review of the Leonardo Momento Magico which I affectionately called “The OG” because there is a new Magico in town! Earlier this year, Leonardo Officina Italiana released an updated version of the Momento Magico, which I will refer to as the Momento Magico 2022. I won’t go into the same level of detail as in the previous writeup and instead, will highlight the differences.

The fountain pen carved into the material is certainly this detail that differentiates us on the world market.What I will comment on is the difference in feel between the Zero and the Magico. Despite both pens being made of acrylic resin, the Magico is about 20% lighter, weighing in at about 20 grams. The difference in weight is noticeable with the Momento Zero feeling denser than the Magico. Over 45 years of experience in the field of writing instruments, handed down from father to son, from generation to generation.

Even the ebonite and resins are subjected to dedicated treatments to last over time, forever, to be passed down from generation to generation. The overall size also makes the Grande a perfect home for the oversize #8 nib. This nib makes even the M800 (second from the left) nib look small. It’s a big size upgrade from the typical #6 sized nib. What does that size upgrade get you in terms of performance? Exclusive and selected materials, celluloid, ebonite, wood, special resins, bronze and precious metal, always with a vintage imprint.The Leonardo Momento Zero is a resin-bodied pen, with a steel nib and is available with gold or silver hardware. The body of this pen in particular is a mesmerizing marbled blend of blue and green iridescent bits. The nib is stainless steel, imprinted with the Leonardo logo and is available in EF, F, M, B and 1.5mm stub; mine is a Fine. With its unique color and design that evokes Italian style, the "Nuvola" represents a perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. Perfect for both collectors and lovers of writing in general, this pen is a testimony to Italian art and craftsmanship. Compared to two of my other favorite gold nibs, the oversize #8 is a little softer than the 823 but has less “give” than the Sailor King of Pen that tends to produce a bit of line variation. It’s also a little broader than the M nib counterparts of those pen models.

The Momento Zero has a screw cap that is postable, but posting is not super tight and makes the pen top heavy, so I prefer not to post. For the writing sample, I inked the Leonardo Momento Magico in extra-fine point with one of the new ink colors also released this spring, called Arancio Tarocco.

The sky merges with the art of writing, the “Momento Zero” collection is enriched with a new iconic Nuvola pen, Nuvola in italian language mean Cloud. The pen also has an ebonite feed that is made in-house by Leonardo. Flow can be can an issue when you get up to nibs of this size, but with the ebonite feed the pen has great flow and leans towards the wet side. The Momento Zero is the flagship pen for Leonardo Officina Italiana. I was fortunate to own the prototype, produced in a beautiful celluloid. It is such an important pen in my collection.
