About this deal

I have come across this book whilst on my first placement in a Special School. My severe learning difficulties nursery class are reading the book as part of their literacy lessons which they absolutely love. However as they are so young and don’t yet have the cognitive ability to have this book read to them fully as a class they have the story read to them as a sensory story – which I have found fascinating.

This book is repetitive and would a good resource for beginning and struggling readers who could benefit from the repetitive nature, as well as the illustrations to help read the story. In terms of reading difficulty, the books have no particular progression for difficulty level. Actually, 小熊 and 给小熊的吻 are the two easiest stories. The first three books in the Little Bear series were all published by Harper and Brothers. In 1962, Harper and Brothers merged with Row, Peterson, and Company to form the new company Harper and Row, which published the next book in 1968. Harper and Row then merged with William Collins in 1990 to form HarperCollins Publishers LLC, which published the final book in the series.Related: 青蛙和蟾蜍 Frog and Toad Books Chinese Bridge Books Review A note about the English version of the Little Bear Books The plot of the story is about a two bears, a big bear and a little bear that live in a bear cave. It’s all about the little bear not being able to sleep as he is scared ‘of the dark all around them’ and the big bear trying different ways to light up his room to reassure little bear that there is no need to be afraid of the dark, which only works when he finds the perfect way to comfort his fears, outside, in front of the moon which is the biggest light of them all. However, t here is still an ample amount of illustrations which are soft on the eyes and have lovely detail that supports the text.

Our experience with the Little Bear books 《小熊 》by Else Holmelund Minarik Chinese bridge books after Sagebooks, Greenfield, and other leveled readers Since the series was originally written in English, the content is relatable for non-native learners such as our Chinese American family. Why Little Bear books are an excellent bridge for budding readers 1. Repetition This classic from Else Holmelund Minarik and Maurice Sendak was written in 1957 and remains as beloved today as it was then. An ALA Notable Children's Book, this Level One I Can Read is full of warm and lovingly playful stories that are perfect for children learning to sound out words and sentences. The 小熊 was easy for my daughter because it mainly discusses different types of clothing. Previously, my daughter learned to read clothing-related characters from our free bilingual printable clothing flashcards . Getting used to long passages However, I bought 3 of the Minarik books in English and noticed that the flow and layout of the books seem to be identical to the Chinese translation! The Little Bear’s Visit story has a Caldecott Medal that is printed flat on the cover of both language versions. After completing the Sagebooks and Greenfield reading curricula as well as learning through our hands-on activities, my daughter and I read explored these stories when she was age 3 years 10 months until she was about 4 years 3 months old. Else Holmelund Minarik's five Little Bear books, which followed their eponymous ursine hero through some of the adventures of childhood, were one of the staples of my own personal library as a girl, and I recall reading them over and over again, until my copies fell apart. Gentle and reassuring, they are also wonderfully and subtly humorous, offering a perfectly realized depiction of a young child's interaction with the people and places in his own small world. Like subsequent installments, this first title contains four stories, each of which gently highlights some reality of child life. I think this will be a great set for my daughter to read in English in the future. What’s inside the Little Bear Books?
