In fact, after reading the book I wonder if even by leaving this positive review I would be somehow censored or punished if I ever returned to China. When those on the oil rig re-approach the islanders for help they discover there is an illness affecting some of them and its not long until one of their own group begins to succumb to the mysterious illness. Despite being seriously ill, this character insists on doing all they can to help not only their own small group but to help the islanders too. Bumbray, Chris (July 28, 2017). A further point of stylistic interest in many of Abe’s novels is the sparseness both of their casts and their locations. Most of The Woman in the Dunes occurs either inside or immediately outside the woman’s house, almost as if it were conceived for the theatre. Abe also enjoyed an international reputation as a playwright, and Abe the Stylist was informed by Abe the Stage Manager as well as Abe the Poet. Those that are “permitted” to live in their own homes must accept a Han visitor/spy to live with them under the “Becoming Family” program, eat their food, and even share their beds. For women to refuse unwarranted advances from these strange men would be considered a sign of modesty from secretly practicing their religion and hence, a cause for being sent away to a re-education camp. Just like having a prayer mat at home or refusing alcohol would lead to.

For those who already follow or are involved with the fight for Uyghur rights, this book provides a nuanced account of how the Uyghur genocide and resistance to it have evolved through 2021. Each personal story and each deep look into the way the government has worked to suppress this people group is heart-wrenching, but the stories also lead you to think deeply about all kinds of issues. a b "No Escape (1994)". There are so many stand out characters for me in this story. Shannon and Kian, sister and brother who are both good kids with Kian falling into the wrong crowd. Phillip, a vulnerable young man, whose life is being made a misery by Jax and his gang. Benny, Shannon’s boss, who makes you realise there are some lovely people in this world. Each one had me compelled to read more about them. Even Jax. A nasty piece of work but all of them made this an absolute must read story. She joins an escape room game and passes with flying colors, basically getting everyone out single handedly. This gets her into an exclusive escape game with a prize of millions of dollors 🤑 Shell finally explained what happened on board – and how murderous rampaging Denny (Sean Keenan) had shot a crying and defenceless Kitty as she called out for Lana, before he tipped her body overboard into the Philippine Sea.

i was able to guess general ideas and decipher who was involved usually, but there were a LOT of things that surprised me...especially riot’s death!!! i literally gasped out loud. The puzzles, the murders, the mystery, the PLOT TWIST....so SO good! That ending threw me in for a loop 😵 Didn't see that coming lolLike the other Murdertrending novels, this one has a great pace and keeps you intrigued right up to the end. But that ending?! Come onnnnnnnnn. This is a story that’s character driven. There are a few likeable ones and ones that are far from it!

What is happening to the Uyghurs is nothing short of genocide. Dude, to those who complain about the US Government monitoring and controlling it's citizens, read this book and understand that those in the US have NOTHING to complain about. China has taken it to a WHOLE new level. And it's terrifying. Seriously, if China is not stopped and they take over everything as they are quite obviously planning to, what the Uyghurs are going through will be what EVERYone will be experiencing. Though I am sure those in power in other governments are taking notes... Lucy's being a law enforcement officer comes as no surprise. As a rookie, her first assignment is talking to the residents of the Griffin Estate .... where her mother was murdered. In a dystopian future, a former Reconnaissance Marine serves life imprisonment on an island inhabited by savage and cannibalistic prisoners. Gretchen McNeil is one of those authors I can’t let go of. #NoEscape is the 8th book that I’ve read by her. #NoEscape is the prequel novel to the #MurderTrending series. Long before the main duology takes place Persey ends up in an escape room that is way more dangerous than it appears.Twenty years before Dee Guerra and the Death Row Breakfast Club took down The Postman and Alcatraz 2.0, long before Becca survived The Juggernaut and Who Wants to Be a Painiac?, the murder games first began with the wildly popular "escape room" trend. Specifically, with Escape-Capades, Ltd.? Twenty years before Dee Guerra and the Death Row Breakfast Club took down The Postman and Alcatraz 2.0 in #MurderTrending, long before Becca survived The Juggernaut and Who Wants to Be a Painiac? In #MurderFunding, the murder games first began with one awful day at Escape-Capades, Ltd.™ And there’s no telling who might have made it out alive, or what they may have later become. Persey enters the competition along with seven other young contestants, but while most escape rooms are about teamwork and collaboration, this one is all about being cut-throat—literally. When contestants start getting killed off, Persey must solve a series of bizarre and gruesome puzzles, riddles, and games to make it out alive. Along the way she learns the contestants are mysteriously related—and someone is out for vengeance. a b c "Sinister Sentinel". Imagi-Movies. Fourth Castle Micromedia. Spring 1994 . Retrieved February 26, 2023. Until I read this book, I hardly knew of the Uyghurs, let alone their plight in the western part of China. The Xi Jinping described in the book sounds like a modern-day Hitler, or worse. Pure evil. It never ceases to amaze me how cruel human beings can be to other humans.

There is so much content in this book but there aren’t enough words for me to stress its importance, but I request everyone who can, please read it. While I know a tiny bit about the Uyghur's plight, this book taught me so much about what is actually happening, and how it happened. I was most surprised about the way that China uses technology to monitor the people living there, and how it's been twisted to oppress an entire group of people.

Persey, a teenaged rich girl with mediocre grades, is good at an Escape Room puzzle deemed unsolvable and is invited to compete with other Escape Room pros to try and win millions. No Escape is a brilliantly gritty and engrossing story. I love stories that are set on estates and the author draws you into this world, feeling the fear and emotions of the residents. There were a couple of unexpected twists where the author kept me on my toes and had me hanging off every word. A great read!
