About this deal

The design-forward Zwilling Enfinigy Electric Kettle Pro looks like it came from an art museum, but it's also highly functional. Its impressive six different temperature settings range from boiling all the way down to 104 degrees for warming up baby formula, as well as a keep-warm function that can hold a temperature for 30 minutes. Other electric kettles we tested heat up faster, but this one's big advantage is its double-walled configuration, which keeps the outside cool to the touch no matter how hot the inside gets. If you've got inquisitive kids around the kitchen (or if you're a little klutzy), it's a nice safety feature. Tea kettles come in many different sizes, though the ones we tested ranged mostly from 1 to 2 quarts. In general, electric kettles tend to have slightly lower capacity than stovetop ones (and our top-rated electric kettle is also the smallest one we tested). What's important is to match your kettle size to your needs. If you usually make a single cup of tea or fill a small French press, you might not want a huge kettle taking up space on your stovetop or in your cabinet. If you often entertain large crowds, however, it’s nice to be able to serve everyone without waiting for a second batch of water to boil. OXO make superb kitchen utensils, but they’ve applied their expertise to a wider range of household products too. Particularly their selection of OXO food storage containers.

Before you use anything that touches brewing coffee, you should make sure it’s sparkly clean. This kettle’s no exception. Before putting it to use, you should do what I did: take a damp cloth and wipe the entire interior of the kettle. Then fill it to the (nicely visible) max line, and brew water to 212F in it. Then pour that out, and repeat. Maybe 3x (because this kettle is fast – more on that below!). At this point, the kettle is ready to use. Overall, pouring is smooth. Like most kettles, the last couple ounces can dribble a bit, however. We found the 2-quart capacity large enough for anything we used the kettle for, from tea to pour-over coffee.Other pros to the Cosori kettle include the pleasing blue light that glows while the item is in use, as well as the fact that both sides of the carafe are clearly labeled for easy measuring. Customers also say the water boils fast, so you won't have to wait long for a delicious cup of tea. The shape of the lid, especially its hollow rim (the bulge above the O-ring seal) traps about a half cup of condensed steam, and I've not yet succeeded in removing the kettle lid - which is a tight fit and takes some force to remove - without splattering this condensed water. Even tipping and shaking the kettle won't get all of it out before you take the lid off. This is another good reason to cool the kettle before removing the lid, and for drying the inside of the lid well after use.

Determine whether you’d like a kettle made of stainless steel, which doesn’t rust or stain, or one constructed from heat-resistant borosilicate glass. Glass models allow you to actually see the tea as it brews. Pouring at Full Capacity: We boiled another 1.5 quarts of water in each kettle over medium-high heat using the same-size gas burners. Once each kettle reached a boil, we poured eight ounces into a cup and determined how easy the kettle was to hold and pour from, whether or not the handle or spout lid became hot to touch, and how the water flowed out when the kettle was at capacity.

The Best Standard Kettle: Cuisinart PerfecTemp

The Caraway Whistling Tea Kettle makes a great first impression. Right out of the box, we loved the matte coating and simple, somewhat tapered silhouette. You can feel how hefty and durable the stainless steel parts are, too, which helps justify the kettle’s high price tag. (Although, in the end we think there are far better value-for-money options out there.) Superkop Lever Espresso Machine One of the most unique espresso makers currently on the market, this is our First Look at the Superkop ratchet lever espresso machine. With the spout cap flipped down, the kettle makes a loud whistle when the water is ready, so there's no need to set a timer. In addition to the silicone handle, the kettle has a silicone lid handle and spout cap to protect your fingers from the hot steel surface, but unfortunately, we found that they can still get pretty hot when the kettle's on the stove. You may need to use a dish towel or hot pad when taking the kettle off the burner. Of course, you can get your hands on one those iconic coffee machines that started the Good Grips revolution. But just as you have to use care with pour-over coffee, you'll need to be cautious with the Hario V60 in general. The kettle doesn't have a fill line marked, and we found that it tends to boil over if filled up all the way. The kettle's base is also smaller than many other stovetop models, which means that you should use a lower heat level on a gas stove to make sure flames don't flow up around the sides and potentially melt the handle. Since it isn't intended for soup (get a saucepan or soup pot!) or other liquids, there should be no need for it to fit in a dishwasher. (I don't have one of those, except me.) And the quality of your tea kettle can affect how your tea tastes. Shunan Teng, the founder and CEO of Tea Drunk, told us that an incorrect water temperature is one of three main brewing mistakes that prevent tea from reaching its best flavor. The other two mistakes are, first, brewing for too long or too short and, second, using too much or too little tea.

There’s only one thing about the controls on this kettle I don’t like and am surprised with. OXO is known for their grippy handles and control surfaces, so I’m really surprised they didn’t put a grippy surface on the control dial for when you rotate it. It’s just plastic, and as such is a bit harder to grip, and can be slippery if your hands are wet. This is a minor thing, but one area where I think OXO forgot their design ethos. Otherwise the base is nicely constructed. The lights are bright but not annoyingly so. The flashes vs solid of the light ring around the control dial help understand the modes the kettle is in.

We tested the OXO Brew Classic Tea Kettle by heating water and cleaning the kettle several times to evaluate its durability, heating ability, and ease of use. The classic tea kettle design certainly gets a thumbs up for its beautiful aesthetic, but how does this popular product perform when it comes to heating water? Read on to find out.I have been using the kettle daily for 6 months and recently have experienced what seems to be a weakening of the "spring" (a flat metal strip) that holds the whistling spout cap up when you depress the lever. As a result, the cap sometimes flops down when I'm pouring, and that splatters hot water. It doesn't seem possible even for bigger hands than mine to hold the kettle and the spout latch with the same hand, and besides, with when pouring, some steam does come out the spout too, and also around the cap hinge, so you don't really want to be holding the cap latch lever, even if you can use both hands while pouring, which is very awkward. A more positive latching mechanism is needed to keep the cap open while the kettle is tipped for pouring. Rebekah Joan has tested and written about everything from homebrewing kits to meat thermometers for The Spruce Eats. She tried out the Le Creuset Classic Whistling Kettle at home.
