If you need an overall opinion about the design, I would gladly say that it owns an amazing design, when it comes to fitting in on any room and looking good, can be easily moved around based on its size and weight, and most importantly it has a strong built making it durable and usable for many years! If you’re an audiophile you probably won’t want this sub. If you’re an average person who wants to fill in the base where your bookshelf speakers or sound bar just can’t reach, consider this Polk Audio PSW10 sub. It also offers two RCA line inputs and a volume control knob to let you adjust the sub’s volume independently.
Same signal ends up going to both the speakers and the sub. If you want to dial this in reasonably well, go play bass sweeps from 20-200Hz on just the bookshelf speakers and then figure out where the sound pressure drops off (decibel-x or similar phone apps can help quantify this). That gives you a rough feel for where to set the variable crossover on the subwoofer. Hook up the sub, repeat the bass sweep. such that the overall loudness level - aka the gain on the subwoofer- (except near the crossover region) is similar on the subwoofer and the speakers at the listening position. Then play with the crossover up or down a little until the dB level is about as level as it'll get. No matter which subwoofer you buy, if you do not place it properly with the right “strategy”, it will distort merely by the fact that the sound will bounce against the walls. The one technical issue I ran into during the setup was vibration. The Polk subwoofer has feet, but when positioned on the hardwood floor of my office they still transmitted vibration.
