About this deal

By Terry describes the Cover Expert Foundation as an ultra smoothing foundation that adjusts to the skin to reveal a flawless complexion with a velvet finish. I was a little sceptical about this foundation because I was not sure it would actually cover my blemishes. The texture seemed light/thin even before I mixed it in with my primer/moisturiser. Surprisingly, it did a good job of covering majority of my blemishes although I still go in with my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ( review here). Quality is obviously a subjective topic, but an important one. Whether you’re shopping to get the very best quality product available, or just get the best quality for a budget…you’re still going to care greatly about the quality of your product. Some of the key things to look out for to determine the quality of products in the Cosmetics category include: Color selection: Terry has definitely made stridesin this department. LV I used to be shade 3, but it wasn't an exact match, it was a bit too peach for most people. It worked for me since I used to have a lot of redness in my face, and the peach would help blur out the redness. In Cover Expert I am shade 8, but in Densiliss I am shade 7. There's 3 darker shades...I can say shade 8 is somewhere in the NC35 range. I was initially matched in shade 8, because at first it looked like a good match. Less than a minute later, the color did some adjusting, and it was definitely too dark. Shade 7 at first looked off, but same thing happened, in a matter of 30 seconds it became a match and stayed that way. Terry's biggest area of development when it came to base products was that she didn't make dark shades. Three extra shades is a start. The lighter shades are not necessarily numbered from light-dark, there's also different undertones in all shades, so you should get matched at a counter first. The foundation comes in a dark blue tube with silver letters and has a capacity of 35ml. Usually a foundation has a capacity of 30ml, the Cover Expert isn’t cheap but you only need a little bit each time.

This becomes confusing because many other lines associate "warm" shades with yellow and golden undertones and "cool" shades with pink/rosy undertones. Product quality is again a very important factor, whether you’re looking for something sturdy in the short-term or a product that is going to provide long-term durability, quality will be a consideration for you. Buying from a brand like By Terry will of course help as they’re so well known for their quality. I’m talking about the fine brand By Terry, founder Terry de Gunzburg has worked for years with Yves Saint Laurent as a Makeup Designer and she is the inventor of the famous Touche Éclat (need I say more!). The brand By Terry has grown into a popular brand with very fine products, I’m particularly a fan of her foundations Sheer-Expert and Cover-Expert. The foundations are very similar in formula but I’m reviewing the Cover Expert because it has SPF 15 in it and I think nowadays that’s very important in my foundation.NC stands for "neutral cool" which MAC feels best describes skin tone that is generally golden/yellow in undertone. I think that you could either go with a #1 or #3 in the By Terry foundation. To be fair, my swatches are of the By Terry Cover Expert, not Sheer Expert, but I am fairly certain that they are parallel with one another in terms of shade and depth (e.g., the level of coverage is the only difference).

Although there are shades for darker skin tones, it is quite limited (there are about 14 shades in total) Thanks for reading Beauty Professor…how lovely to hear from you! Congrats on your KGD Aqua OC-2 acquisition…it is such a lovely formula. With regards to your question, thankfully, the By Terry Sheer Expert shades are consistent with the Cover Expert shades (there is a direct correlation with the numbering system).

The Cover Expert Foundation Cover is available in 10 different shades, I have the shade Vanilla Beige which has a yellow undertone. To keep it clear in my head (and to align it with all other makeup brands I use that believe that "warm" is yellow/golden and "cool" is pink/rosy) , I like to think of "NC" as standing for "not cool" (meaning that the makeup has a yellow undertone) and NW as standing for "not warm" (meaning that the makeup has a pinker undertone). Little did I know, Terry herself was revamping the formulation of Lumiere Veloutee. What prompted her to do so, I have no idea as to theexact reason. What I can say is that Terry herself takes pride in always reformulating her items for it to be better, more efficient, and more effortless. Some people may hate her for constantly changing her lineup, but I can't be mad, she's always on the search for something better. Two years later...it's finally here. I know die-hard fans who used to use Lumiere Veloutee are asking the question, "Is it Lumiere Veloutee's (LV) replacement"?
