The series was first announced on July 10, 2018 by co-creators Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond. [3] [4] Ehasz was the head writer and co-executive producer of the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, and a longtime writer and story editor for Futurama, while Richmond co-directed the video game Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. You can tell from the very beginning this was written by one of the creators of the show and much love and care was put into this novel. That's ultimately where this novel differs from other adaption works. The writing style is painfully plain and overly simplistic. This made the action scenes fall flat, and other scenes quite boring to read. It definitely contributed to pacing issues. The “inner dialogue” or perspective of characters felt oddly very surface level in many places. In short, there was a lot of telling and very little (if any) showing.

For starters i LOVE the show and while i was watching the show i read the book too and at the like first 3 fourths to half is great, i love them adding scenes to the book that didn’t exist in the show and it helps and flesh out the characters more and gives more heartfelt moments!
