About this deal

This book I guess has always been my least favorite of them all just because of the fact that I was never a huge Chaol fan. I was okay with the fact that Celaena chose Chaol out of him and Dorian, though. I loved getting to see more of what happened in the castle and I loves watching the relationships build when I reread this book and I just really loved rereading the series. The handling of Aedion's bisexuality. Being in the queer community myself, I hate when things like this are written this particular way. Personally, reading all throughout the books, I never would've known he was bi because his attraction to men is never mentioned in his pov (or even by other characters) until he says so to Lysandra at the very end of the last book. And to make things worse, he's constantly referred to as "Ardarlan's Whore". (He's also the only lgbtq+ character, except for the gay fae couple in book 3 that were more token diversity points than actual characters.)

When magic has gone from the world and a vicious king rules from his throne of glass, an assassin comes to the castle. She is a prisoner, but if she can defeat twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition to find the greatest assassin in the land, she will become the king's champion and earn her freedom. But the evil she encounters in the castle goes deep, and as dark forces gather on the horizon - forces which threaten to destroy her entire world - the assassin must take her place in a fight greater than she could ever have imagined. This story is about Caelenas rise after she has fallen from grace. She is rebuilding her reputation as the continents best assassin. She is still growing up and maturing. She starts off really immature and by the end of the second book she has grown significantly and will do anything to stop evil from disrupting Erilea. I like music," she said slowly, "because when I hear it, I . . . I lose myself within myself, if that makes any sense. I become empty and full all at once, and I can feel the whole earth roiling around me. When I play. I'm not . . . for once, I'm not destroying, I'm creating.” Tower of Dawn - Chapters 3-4 (chaol wonders about character in cliffhanger high suits the wording in a different context.)

Christmas Gifts

When magic has gone from the world and a vicious king rules from his throne of glass, an assassin comes to the castle. Discover the worldwide phenomenon of the #1 New York Times-bestselling Throne of Glass series in this gorgeous 8-book box set! Book 6 is tough to get thru, just the way it was set up. I can't imagine those who had to wait for 6 and THEN wait for 7. Book 7 is wee choppy, though last books are tough to read anyway... last Harry Potter, etc. Personally, I could've done without reading these books in my entire life. Someone could tell me "you're cursed to never see another sjm book again!" and I'd be like "that's fine with me". I'm not usually the kind of person to say "I hate this book" but to be frank, I hate all of these books. I don't like the author either. She looked at them, at the three males who meant everything—more than everything. Then she smiled with every last shred of courage, of desperation, of hope for the glimmer of that glorious future. “Let’s go rattle the stars.”

Book 3 actually made me quit for...8 years, it would appear. But in my fantasy binge for 2022, finally got around to reading the rest. And it definitely gets better. I think book 1 and especially book 3 are just very generic and show the protagonist at peak unlikable tedium mode. Fans new and old will dive into this special box set that contains a 4-color poster and hardcover editions of the entire series: The Assassin's Blade, Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms, Tower of Dawn, and the thrilling finale, Kingdom of Ash. The Thirteen was such an amazing group of witches and I loved them all so much, I cried to so hard when they Yielded. As dark forces gather on the horizon-forces which threaten to destroy her entire world-Celaena must fight to protect everything she holds dear, thrusting her into the epic, heart-stopping fantasy series that turned #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas into a worldwide phenomenon.King of Adarlan really wasn't that bad of a guy once you got the Vlag out of him. He really did care for Dorian and what he did with the Key just made me cry. Celaena Sardothian/Aelin Ashryver Galathynius is the main character that the story is revolved around and I love her with all my heart. She inspires me so much and her strength has encouraged me to do things that I never thought that I would have been able to do.

And once you read it, please reach out and tell me how you liked it. I'd love to know if this series is the world-altering phenomenon that I believe it to be. Sigh. Why is the prequel so much better than the actual series, and why do the prequel’s characters keep not showing up? Why are we still in exposition territory (as the protagonist mostly just trains, trains, trains)? I guess I’ll skim through the next book as I did the previous book. Two is that if you were looking for an engaging, diverse fantasy novel with likeable characters, you'll be severely disappointed. The plot, and how it carried from book to book. There was a greater storyline, but parsed out well between the books without feeling bloated or like it dragged on like some series can do (Looking at you, Outlander). The action moved around and it felt like a natural progression, the plot points grew from each other. I might have had broad ideas of how things would go but generally couldn't predict much (but when they happened, it made sense not something out of the blue). Also, I noted that the author did a good job of not leaving loose threads around - things were explained or tied together. It looks like the white set is the UK version (exact same books just different covers) which is probably why they were harder to find. They do not have any illustrations of the characters in them tho. I do think that the original US versions may have. It does still have the maps in each book of course, and the set even comes with a 12"x18" poster of the Northern continent which I am totally going to frame!

The relationships. I don't want to give anything away, but I would be missing a huge point of why I loved this series if I didn't say it held one of my favorite relationships of all time. Matching a hero tends to be the author justifying how it could work, how it could make sense, usually by making the non-hero sweet or smart or supportive - here it's so well done, it's a true partnership, so well unfolded. I won't say more. Because Yrene is such a big part of the climax, I do think it makes sense for book 6 to be a full novel; it would be weird and deus ex machina-y if the big savior only previously appeared in a short story and a novella. Even if we have to endure the secondary romance of that book. And all that Chaol; she does fix him into tolerability, so there's that. I really really loved meeting Manon and Aelin who are probably tied for favorite characters in this series, if not ever. I just loved Abraxos and the wyverns and seeing how the Ironteeth witches worked, but still watching Celaena accept who she is and building a relationship with Rowan, and still getting to see what happens at the castle with Dorain and Chaol and Aedion.
