About this deal

Aquarium Silicones: They are generally used in aquarium manufacturing and repair. Being harmless to fish and plants, these silicones adhere perfectly to glass. Akfix 100AQ is used in Aquarium manufacturing and assembly and manufacturing of glass structures. It does not contain chemicals that can harm living beings. Silicone is one of the most used raw materials in the industrial field, almost all walks of life need to use silicone sealant. There are many types of sealants on the market includingacetic sealant, neutral sealant, insulating glass sealant, aquarium silicone, anti mould silicone and weatherproof silicone sealant etc.

Since it is resistant to moisture, low or high temperature, it can be applied to different materials both indoors and outdoors. There are two main types of cure; Acetoxy and Neutral. Both curing types cure by reaction with atmospheric moisture. Profile. Before the bead has dried, use a smoothing tool like the UniBond Sealant Finishing Tool to smooth it over and force it into the joint or gap to form the best seal possible. This will also remove any excess sealant, which can be scraped off in stages while smoothing the bead over. Low Modulus Acetoxy Silicone Sealants are the cost effective “all-rounders”, they are suitable for a wide variety of general building, sanitary (when they contain a fungicide), glazing interior and exterior applications and adhere to many common building material. However it is important to note that they do not have the same life span or adhesion properties as the more specialised alternatives particularly on exterior applications. Specialised Silicone Sealants for DIY Use

MS Polymer Sealants are another “all rounder”; they have great durability, flexibility, excellent adhesion to non-porous surfaces, will bond to damp surfaces and are paintable. They are best used as an adhesive or sealant on surfaces that experience frequent vibration or strain. They are also ideal for gluing panels, skirting boards, windows, mirrors and insulation materials. Aquarium Sealants are another form of silicone sealant, the only difference is they are non-toxic to fish and reptiles and therefore ideal for sealing aquariums and terrariums. Other Sealants for DIY Use Acrylic sealant provides protection to various surfaces from dust and insects that may come through that gap and its main characteristic is that it stays flexible even after you paint it. This makes it essential for joint filling in construction, as when it is cured it becomes like rubber in terms of quality and building joints need to have the ability to move at some point. Also, the fact that it is an over paintable material makes acrylic sealant ideal for interior and exterior decoration. Our range of multi-purpose sealants are fast acting and long-lasting for a flexible and resistant seal. Choose from a number of ready to use sealants including acrylic, clear silicone and all-purpose formulas from brands including UniBond, Evo-Stik, Geocel and Gorilla.

The primary objective for all types of sealants is to close a gap. Gaps are problematic because they are spots where air could escape and moisture could gather. It would be best to seal them up as soon as they emerge. Acrylic Sealants are the economical, paintable alternative to silicones; they are suitable for sealing and filling joints around aluminium, wood and UPVC window and door frames. However the external application of this form of sealant is very much ruled by the weather, conditions must by dry and preferably warm when applying. They also do not offer the same flexibility as a silicone. Let’s start with acrylic sealants. Acrylic sealants are the ones you mainly want to use for the gaps around your windows and door frames. For general purpose applications such as doors, windows, glass joints ,Akfix 100EGeneral Purpose Silicone is widely preferred. Kitchen and bathroom sealants hygienically seal the edges around your bath, sink and shower, with waterproof and mould resistant properties that allow for reliable use in wet areas.High Temperature Silicone Sealants are basically gasket sealants designed for forming gasket joints where an extremely high temperature resistance is necessary. They can also be used to seal and bond oven doors. Once it has cured, you can also paint over the acrylic sealant to blend it better into its surroundings. Maintenance long-term is also easy because you can clean up acrylic sealants using just water. Prime. Most acrylic sealants come with an applicator nozzle, which you attach to the main tube after removing the cap and inner seal. Establish the bead size you wish to apply and cut the top of the nozzle to match that measurement. Obviously though, not all gaps that show up in and around your home are similar. Some gaps show up in places that are often moved around while others are in stationary spots. The rate of exposure to the elements also varies depending on the spot that needs to be sealed. For applications in wet areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, Akfix 100S, with the anti-mold properties, is preferred as gap filling and sealing product. Silicone Sealant is used as the sealing material in installations that require plumbing, roofing and guttering. Akfix 910NRoof and Plumbing Silicone is designed for long-term durability. It is a high performance product for applications such as connection sealing.
