About this deal

At the same time I've been planning to send some whisky samples to my friend and fellow Connosr member, Systemdown, as he had the good idea that exchanging samples would be a good way to experience more whiskies for much cheaper. Balance: There is a good transition of aromas and flavours between nose, palate, and finish. I found most flavours to be consistently present, without being in competition with one another. Nice aroma of malt, savory spices, fruit, butterscotch, overripe citrus and a general oily earthiness. It’s not super complex, but it has a nice weight to it that makes it come across as bold. Auchentoshan’s claim to fame is that they’re the one distillery in Scotland to triple distil their entire output. As a consequence, their new make spirit sits at an impressive 81%, much higher than the average Scottish distillery. It’s an interesting distinction and a unique selling point they’ve wholeheartedly embraced. The distillery happily emphasizes triple distillation is more time-consuming, more expensive, and absolutely unique. Which isn’t false. But triple distillation isn’t better (or worse). It’s just a different method.

a b c Helen Arthur (2002) [1997]. The single malt companion (in Dutch). Lisbeth Machielsen (trans.). Libero. p.62. ISBN 978-9057642364. The following indicators should be taken as only a guide and not a set of hard and fast rules. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh. A+: A masterpiece and one of the ten best whiskeys of its type. Above five stars.Nose is lemon citrous, honey, light fresh white oak, toasted almonds, some light spice, pepper and ginger. light barley. Also some crystallised stem ginger.

Auchentoshan distillery ( / ˌ ɒ x ən ˈ t ɒ ʃ ən/ OKH-ən- TOSH-ən) is a single malt whisky distillery in the west of Scotland. [4] :15Nose: gentle. Light citrus, a bit of chocolate fudge, and...a touch of smoke? I swear I'm not crazy, it's there. Not exactly peat smoke, maybe more like faint cigar ash. Also some florals. Summer meadow. Not the most captivating nose ever, but still interesting. Auchentoshan 12 Years is a single malt with a pleasant amount of character. It’s a whisky that I wouldn’t say I’ve been avoiding reviewing, but I haven’t exactly gone out of my way to secure a bottle so I was incredibly happy to see it show up in the Flaviar tasting kit I was sent – which is a neat thing in and of itself. Finish: The licorice note detected on the palate carried through on the finish that I found to be of medium length and drying. It had a slightly harsh quality that detracted slightly from the experience. Now that the temps have dropped I thought it would be a good idea to open up something new, and what better then a bottle that's been sitting in the cabinet for over 3 years. Nose: Toffee, butter, and most noticeably, caramel coated almonds. I also detected a slight hint of orange once or twice, though it does not provide a consistent presence.
