About this deal

The longer maturation softens its smokiness to hints of charred smoke while developing the wood imbued character of succulent honey, vanilla and fruit. What I say We deliver to a number of international destinations including the USA. Please use the 'Change Location' link above for an estimate in your local currency or find out more about international delivery The whisky remains dirty and earthy on the palate and plays on the same themes as the nose. The finish continues these themes but is rather short. The bonfire smoke lingers on for a while. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect.

Viscous mouthfeel making for a rich and full arival. Treacle and caramel and quite a bit of salinity. Chocolate and toffee apples, slightly nutty with wood and spice notes. Again there’s a dirty touch to it, but rather than turning sulphury, it all remains exactly where it should be. The spices lead the way in the long, warming finish with wood and chocolate turning dry towards the very end. As they state on their label, Benromach is made for “genuine character”. So, expect some rough edges, as Benromach is not one of those generic and all-too-many smooth and gentle crowd-pleasers. The longer maturation softens its smokiness to hints of charred smoke while developing the wood imbued character of succulent honey, vanilla and fruit.’

The Benromach Contrasts: Peat Smoke is not as complex as the other bottles but is equally solid in its delivery. I find it more one-dimensional than the others, but it’s still a good dram. The 46% does make a difference and I would love to see the same ABV used in the other drams, as this one does not flatten out over time.

A wonderfully complex dram with zesty fruits, chocolate and sherry influences, the added maturation adds a little more oak wood influence and spice over the 10 year old and 100° Proof expressions. A great price for a characterful 15 Year Old Speyside whisky. Score 88/100 Palate: A bit hot. Oaky and buttery, with resinous dried fruit. There’s a lot of depth to explore here, and I wasn’t able do it justice with a single pour. Nose: Speyside meets Campbeltown – toffee apples, orange peels, honey and beeswax vs. gentle but unclean ashy smoke, surface cleaner and used oil. More overtly sherried than the 10 year old, this delivers stewed red berries, dusty wood cellars as well as some slightly tropicalness from pineapple. Oatmeal, tanned leather, lemon drop sweets and bitter chocolate all provide additional nuances. This is an exceptionally well-balanced and pleasing dram, with something for everyone – peat smoke, rich fruit, chocolate, herbs and spices. Entirely understandable that whisky-lovers from around the world nominated this classic Speyside single malt for the shortlist and a worthy winner of the title.’ With Water: A few drops of water highlight brighter fruit notes on the nose, and add peanut butter to the palate. The water also balances out the sherry and the tannic notes better. Like all our whiskies, Benromach 15 Years Old is handcrafted using the finest natural ingredients and is a distinctive Speyside whisky with a subtle smoky character. Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival 20th Anniversary Edition Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival 2019 If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. As you might have already guessed, I like Benromach. These are kind of old-school whiskies that have a genuine character. Today, Benromach is the smallest distillery in Speyside with a workforce of just two and a maximum capacity of a mere half million litres annually. Benromach was established in 1898, a year a great number of distilleries came into being. The distillery was built by the Benromach Distillery Company and situated to the north of Forres in Speyside. The Benromach 15 is a fine and multi-layered whisky. Meaty and earthy notes are prominent while the sherry casks have added some dried fruits and maple syrup into the mix. The subtle smoke and eucalyptus notes add further layers to this whisky. Unfortunately, the 43% is insufficient to carry the full experience, and while the Benromach 15 is variegated, I also find it a bit unintegrated. A fine experience, nonetheless. Pour yourself a dram of Benromach 15 Years Old. Lift it to the light and note the especially goldenamber colour, thanks to the long maturation in sherry and bourbon casks. Now swill it around your glass and take a few little inhalations tosavourtheAROMA WITHOUT WATER…there’s a lot going on… beautifully balanced sherry aromas with vanilla pod, zesty orange and spicy ginger complemented bydelicatechamomile and menthol notes. Now sip your dram, roll the whisky around your mouth and enjoy theTASTE WITHOUT WATER…there’sluscious, rich fruit cake with stewed plum, red apple skin and the sharp edge of kiwi fruit. Next, take in theAROMA WITH WATER…the whisky shifts into another gear with subtlehints of cocoa, nutmeg and cinnamon giving way tosweet honeynotes and hints of bonfire embers. Add a drop or two of water to release the fullTASTE WITH WATER…it’s a very satisfying palate with traces of charred oak complementing sweet tangerine, plum and nectarines… completed by agorgeoustouch of milk chocolate.Tell us what you think. Finish: Long, dark chocolate gingers, roasted coffee bean and treacle toffee, becomes dry and a little spicy with ginger, clove and pepper.
