The last time Waterford hosted the race start, three Irish vessels represented the State in the sail past down the estuary to Dunmore East – the Return from a day at the beach with a healthy glow and enjoy family time together playing in the garden or in the den before dinner. Set on the seaward side of the bay and boasting stunning sea views that span the pristine coastline that reaches to Godrevy and beyond, Celtic Mist is a luxury three-bedroom bungalow with all the indoor and outside space you could wish for; creating a wonderful holiday retreat for families and couples to enjoy. Light-filled and welcoming, the home features a spacious entrance hall with a wooden staircase that ascends to the upstairs rooms where guests will discover a large lounge with stunning sea views; a lovely space for whiling away the hours in complete relaxation. Downstairs, the property’s three ground floor bedrooms are airy and inviting, with comfortable beds and garden views adding to their appeal.

This excitement is especially prominent amongst the children who have taken part in Celtic Mist’s Floating Classroom initiative, which began in 2019. Led by the IWDG’s Education and Outreach officer, Sibéal Regan, the venture has seen Celtic Mist travelling to schools across the country to provide engaging workshops that highlight the importance of taking care of our seas and oceans — and how anyone can start to do it, from any age. Overlooking the blue waters of Carbis Bay, Celtic Mist is wonderfully situated for exploring St Ives and further afield. This three bedroom dormer bungalow has an upstairs lounge with TV and ample armchairs for enjoying the gorgeous coastal views. Downstairs, the fully equipped kitchen is perfect for self-catering with everything you need right to hand including coffee maker and dishwasher. The separate dining room has a cosy sofa. Sliding doors to the garden provide a choice of indoor and outdoor dining areas with superb sea views. Three bedrooms on the ground floor (a king-size and two twin / double rooms) are spacious and well furnished. They share the contemporary bathroom with walk-in shower. Salary: This position is part time and will be compensated with a gross daily rate of €120 (€60 for half day) for a minimum of 66 days.Maintain on board science equipment (computer hardware and software, cameras) in coordination with the Science Officer. The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group’s (IWDG) recently relaunched research vessel the RV Celtic Mist has recorded an impressive 11 cetacean species on its maiden research and training voyage, including the elusive blue whale ( Balaenoptera musculus).Partake fully in all aspects of the survey, acting as a full crew member and participating in all operational, domestic, and social aspects of the survey. In the cool blue light of a Malahide morning, Celtic Mist didn't look quite as pretty as she had in the flattering Spanish sun. She needed refurbishment, a good overhaul and a paint job. In nautical terms she needed a refit, a vital bit of housekeeping to keep a vessel safe and seaworthy and to protect the significant initial investment. Any member of the IWDG can join a survey for a week and our crew is made of all types, from people with absolutely no experience on a boat to ex-merchant navy,” explains Andrew Shine, Celtic Mist officer. “100% of people who join Celtic Mist for a week’s surveying learn something new, see something they haven’t before, or look at an old ocean with new eyes. It’s hugely rewarding to see the excitement of budding scientists and layfolk alike when they get the opportunity to come aboard.

Dunbrody.The State sail training brigantine Asgard II sank off the French coast in 2008, while neither of the other tall ships has been entered.IWDG intend to use the Celtic Mist to train and teach IWDG members how to survey and record whales and dolphins, including using acoustic survey techniques. It will also be used for dedicated research projects and professional training and development. They intend to encourage schools and young people to visit the yacht to learn about cetaceans and the rich marine life in Ireland and to promote marine conservation.
