About this deal

This list was used by William at Quarantine Fanatic II in November 2020 and went 2-1-1. It shows a lot of consistent traits of Winterleaf lists, with Winterleaf being the most popular competitive format. You have a few Warrior-Wizards in your roster so if you feel like going Wizard hunting this is worth considering, but you’re probably better keeping your Wizard focusing on casting, or take a different weapon relic. C- Recently, Kurnoth hunters have taken a bit of a staring role as more elite infantry and being able to reroll all hits with no limitations is pretty nice, especially when greatswords are combined with the command ability. Throne of Vines – Casting value 5. Add 2 to casting rolls for the caster until they are moved. Excellent spell, almost mandatory to take on a Branchwraith, since you want them for their Unique spell. Cast this on the Branchwraith, then sit comfortably all game spitting out new Dryads. Awesome. A- After Alarielle was awakened by Sigmar, she wandered alone through the wilds of Ghyran for a very long time, exploring its lands and wonders, and spoke with its many plants and creatures. She desired no companions and found solace in nature alone, nurturing life as she went along. But eventually she grew tired of her solitude and sowed her most treasured artefacts, seeds she had kept from the World-That-Was. [9b]

Even the sylvaneth are unsure of the origins of the outcasts; they consider that they may be a dark reflection of the other tree-folk or even tainted from Soul-Pods that grew in corrupted soil. They are, however, sure that they were first sighted in the Shrouded Season a forgotten period of time that even the eldest Sylvaneth cannot access memories of, denied by their goddess. What is most disturbing to the sylvaneth is that do not know where new outcasts come from, although they can be found in any wild place that has been twisted by malice and hate. Not an insignificant number of tree-folk worry that the bitterness and hate is contagious. [4c] In 2497 IC, the Lichmaster Heinrich Kemmler inflitrated Athel Loren, she was forced to sing the ancient Durthu from his slumber to combat the Necromancy in the Battle of the Cairns. [2a] Among the most ancient of all Athel Loren’s inhabitants, Drycha possesses great and terrible power. She is capable of conjuring potent illusions, driving her victims mad by forcing them to face their greatest fears and doubts. She can also change her form at will from that of a hideous tree-thing to a beautiful, elf-like maiden. [2] Mystic Regrowth – At the end of your hero phase, if this general successfully cast any spells in that phase that were not unbound, you can heal D3 wounds allocated to this general.

Command Traits and Artefacts

You get a whopping 7 different Glades here, which is sort of surprising for how few units are in the book. At least you have a lot of variety, most lists on the competitive circuit tend to look at Winterleaf first, and Gnarlroot as a secondary option for those who prefer a more magical bent. Oakenbrow On the plus side, it’s also now always D3 wounds even if you roll equal to your Bravery making it slightly better when pelted by the stray arrow or magic spell. Charge Phase Command Abilities Sylvaneth are born from Soul-pods, objects of life magic that can take many different forms, because life favours variety. Even the life that will grow from it is unknown; not even Alarielle knows what life will be formed from them. Their forms come from Alarielle's loves, hopes and dreams. These Soulpods are planted in groves at the heart of enclaves of the Sylvaneth and will eventually grow into new Sylvaneth. [9b] On the theme of painting, I’ve never had so much fun drybrushing a model as I have with the Hamadreth. Contrast paints shade the bark beautifully, so that you can come in afterwards with several layers of dry brushing where each colour is lighter than the last. Flittering Thoughts

Lifewreath: In your hero phase, roll a dice. On a 3+ you can heal D3 wounds on each friendly unit wholly within 10″ of the bearer. Only one twisted in mind and soul would seek the company of such horrors, yet Drycha Hamadreth has named herself their Regent. It is said that Drycha is a truly ancient spirit who fought in the wars at the end of the world-that-was. Many say she failed Alarielle at that time. Certainly, it was not until the darkest days of the Age of Chaos that the Everqueen relented and planted Drycha’s soulseed, releasing the Branchwraith from her millennial limbo. In truth, Alarielle feared the damage that Drycha’s firebrand madness might do and the horrors she might wreak. The Everqueen worried also that Drycha’s was a necessary darkness, and that by keeping her imprisoned, the mother had somehow weakened her children. [1] [3a] William put a lot of work into buffing the Branchwraith, giving her Throne of Vine and the Spiritsong Stave. He also added Balewind Vortex as well, to put her on it. While you don’t need all 3 its common to use 2 of these tools to guarantee the Branchwraith’s unique spell cannot fail, as summoning more Dryads can be key to winning, and if you can get the spell off every turn that’s an additional 600 points worth of models at no cost to you. Otherwise the other noteworthy inclusions are a mix of Kuroth Hunters with varying melee weapons (with an Arch-Revenant to lead) and both Spirit of Durthu and Drycha. While it’s rare to include both, they both serve important roles. Paul’s Gnarlroot List Allegiance: Sylvaneth Another large tree! Treelords are much weaker ancients, as one would expect. They lost a lot of the same powers and mostly just focus on the combat aspect. If your goal is just to fit in another heavy hitter, it’s worth it but the abilities of an Ancient, Durthu or Drycha really make it hard to let this guy shine. Your Behemoth slots are often getting crowded so if you have the leftover points and really need another behemoth, you can do worse. Scenery Sylvaneth WyldwoodWhen a unit from this battalion runs, you may run 6″ instead of rolling for it. Not a bad one. It’s not great since it doesnt let you run and charge but it can help get the hunters into prime position for sniping with bows, charging next turn, or just getting them somewhere safe behind cover. Lords of the Clan The core rules FAQ is still a hefty document full of minor corrections and clarifications including the new 27.4 Sub Faction clarification listing out all of the battle traits you can choose for your subfaction – nothing changed just makes the wording work. Specifically the list given is:

Her remaining Outcasts gathered around her, encircling the other humans, who trembled and cowered. Drycha looked past them, to the distant gates of Fort Gardus, which now lay twisted and broken. The greenskins and their gargant allies were amongst the defenders now, killing at will. In the valley below the fortress, the crusaders too were harried fiercely. If they did not withdraw or receive support soon, they would surely be overrun. The Sylvaneth are always ready to defend their homes or march out to war. When they do they are organized into Wargroves, Sylvaneth armies that advance with an unnatural speed that rivals that of cavalry of other armies. Sylvaneth are stealthy to such a degree that an entire wargrove can emerge from a forest, without any hint of their presence coming from their cover. [9f] As with all larger warhammer kits, I recommend building and painting this model in stages. It allows more brush access to all parts of the model, and allows you to focus on other areas before adding the layer of armor.Tramble Underfoot –At the end of the combat phase you can nominate one enemy unit within 1″and roll a die for each model in the unit. For each 4+ deal a mortal wound. A 4+ for a free ability like this is pretty nasty. Nagash being taken however can’t really be underestimated. The NightHaunt spell lore is great and Nagash being able to reliably cast it gives him real options when the army couldn’t manage it before. Ossiarch Bonereapers For the most part this only matters for coalitions, most importantly Archaon. You can’t bring in units from other books to create beefy combos, which is a running theme in the other mono-god books. The Points Your opponent will likely try and come at your Heroes with high rend, but you have better options to keep them protected. C- Really good, the buff requires units to get pretty close to it, but you can spawn it early, use vital venoms to get your squad moving and then dispel it and drop it again later. It’ll be a major headache for your opponent and at only 50 pts its worth considering. Vengeful Skullroot

Drycha seethed to witness such thoughtless devastation. So typical of humans. She had killed for less. All that stayed her rage was the reminder of the words of the Everqueen’s herald, that foolish sapling Tethamyr. Alarielle did not begrudge the Queen of the Outcasts her vendettas, but neither would she countenance open war with the city-dwellers. Drycha had tasted the Everqueen’s wrath before and did not wish to witness it again. This doesn’t jive well for Sylvaneth because you’re rarely running very large units, relying on your heroes or smaller elite units. It can have an edge case use for Dryads, who are sometimes fielded in groups of 20 or more.Dryads are your cheap battleline and if you have 2 or more clumped together this can be a very cost effective way to save them, it’s rather difficult to set up in practice though. The Realmroots are magical, deep-burrowing roots that form paths in Ghyran (and, to a limited extent, in other realms) that the Sylvaneth can use to communicate through the Spirit-Song. The most powerful can even transform into pure life magic and move vast distances through them. Still, the roots cannot connect between different Realms like Realmgates can. [9b] Diplomacy Free Spirits are powerful warriors whose unquestioning obedience to Alarielle makes them important agents of the goddess in her fight to reclaim her lands in the Mortal Realms. They speak with the authority of the goddess. [4b] A Glade is ruled over by a Regent and has a number of clans which again have their own shared traits. In times of war they will gather Wargroves to fall upon their enemies. [4b] In my box I had a really nice casting of pieces and sprues. No pieces were damaged or bent out of place, and everything was in the box and accounted for. However, there are quite a few spindly pieces that make up this set, and I’ve come to expect it from the Sylvaneth units. It’s not a negative, and ust means that you need to take care when removing the pieces from the sprue and assembling them.
