About this deal

If you're searching for more than one book (or book series), start a new topic for each book or series. So far, we've seen one scene take place during spring semester (the fake AF arrest) and two scenes take place during spring break (the search party and The Ceremonial Burning Of The Beanie™). The scene with Jughead's dead body, however, did not have a time stamp – which is a bit sus. So when Emma rings Ella saying she's in desperate need of her help, because she's going to have to go away for a while. So why when she was with her perfect boyfriend couldn't stop thinking about her imperfect ex-lover???? Can't remember the title of a book you read? Come search our bookshelves. And so we have Ella swapping places with her sister as Emma has to let's say go away for a few weeks, but doesn't want her reputation ruined. Almost no one even knows she has a twin, and Ella barely knows her niece and has never met her 9 year old nephew, so even her kids won't be any the wiser. Witty writing, laugh out loud moments and a heart-warming story is the standard I have come to expect from Portia Macintosh and Faking It does not disappoint. Ben... Well let's just say he is an shallow, insignificant character that didn't appear until he start dating Lexi. The only problem was the underdevelopment of Tyler and Lexi's relationship. They spent half of the book away from one another and I felt like something was missing when he confessed he liked her at the end. This book is about a girl Lexi, she is a very authentic and a perfect person in front of the society, she is popular, intelligent and what not?Lexi was a character that so often got on my nerves even though I understood some of her actions and truly felt for her. She just had these ideas in her head about being "perfect" in school, with friends, and Ben and how that was better than how she really was or felt. On top of that she had some pretty big daddy issues going on that were influencing her relationships with guys. Including her secret hook-up style relationship with the school's resident stoner bad boy Tyler Flynn (which I think is a perfect name for the bad boy (with a heart!)) One of my favorite scenes was at prom, of course. That scene had so much character and realization and drama it hurt me emotionally and physically. Up to that point, Ben had been telling Lexi to limit her time spent with Nolan, Lexi's neighbor and childhood best friend. Lexi and Nolan consider themselves unofficial siblings, but Ben is still unconvinced. At the prom after-party, when Lexi's secret about Tyler is exposed, she has nowhere to hide. Her entire senior class now knows her secret she's been hiding since September.

I don't know how the author does it, but I get to fall in love with her characters every single time. They're delightful, lovable, funny... Ella was the perfect mix of crazy and level headedness. I just loved how she didn't think twice about going to her sister's aid even though she could have used past grievances to not wanna help her, not reproaching her at all. It was so funny reading about her new "mum" status and her dealings with Emma's kids (yeah, I even liked the moody teenager and I always hate moody teenagers), her colleagues and the Yummy Mummy Mafia (what an apt moniker!). And Marco. What to say about Marco except...where can I get one like him?! If you're not into coming-of-age books dashed with a little bit of romance, then this book may not be the one for you. I love that Ella was an unapologetic Bridget Jones. She was light, fun, and full of life. She was happy against all odds and society’s expectations. There are many other characters in this book, Lexi's relationship with Tyler, Nolan and Ben is very distinct and it is something that tells a lot about her. These people make her realize what she actually is and what exactly she want. Ella is a young woman who is still trying to find her groove in this life. She has just lose her latest job and her apartment after a fire broke out in her living room when she gets a phone call from her grounded twin sister, Emma, who asks her to take her place for a few weeks. So Ella without anything to lose accepts and try to live her sister's life at the best she can, even if she soon finds out how hard it is to care about a teen girl, a kid and an husband without any experience. Will Ella keep her true identity a secret? Or will Emma regret to have asked her for a favour? Will Lexi able to make amends with her dad and accept him? And does Ben really turns out be a guy as Lexi has imagined? Or will she feel a pull towards Tyler?

Tyler Flynn is fantastic. Forgive me for starting this “review” with Tyler Flynn, but bear with me for a moment here. This guy, Tyler Flynn, was seduced by Lexi Shaw for one and only one reason—to warm her bed. And I had absolutely no qualms about that, considering the sex was consensual and they were being safe. But here’s the deal: Tyler wasn’t supposed to fall in love with Lexi and vice versa. They were supposed to keep their relationship confined to the bedroom and even though Tyler knew of Lexi’s life-long infatuation with her friend Ben, he wasn’t supposed to mention that ever. You may think that Tyler is just another filler character (which was my assumption too) but you slowly discover something completely different. We don’t see Tyler as much as we want to, but he’s a major character alright. He was a constant source of confusion for Lexi, considering he had started to break her rules, and she was thinking of him a lot more. And in the scenes were he really was present, I loved everything about him. He may have been a bad boy but he was definitely thebad boy you want to see in YA. Her mother is portrayed as an immature and damaged alcoholic lady and she is not at all likable though I actually didn't like anything that is related to their house leaving the lilac bushes. Her mother don't give a damn about her which I thought is very insensitive. It was a light – hearted, funny and also thought – provoking read with some hidden messages in it. It’s was fast – paced and engaging, a truly enjoyable read for those snowy days. A story about families, relationships and friendship, about second chances and not forgetting what is really important in life – not holding grudges but creating memories and being honest. A lovely read, truly recommended! Lexi is an average teenage girl living with her mother in a small city. She hangs out with her best friends, sleeps with Tyler, a drug-dealing bad boy, and has an unrequited crush for one of her friends’ cousin, Ben. Average, I said? Well, a little over dramatic already from this synopsis, sure, but that’s what should make this story interesting. The concept of everything teetering precariously was very prominent throughout this book, and the tension remained at a level that made me eager to continue reading. Navigating through Emma’s rich and prosperous life was much more complicated than Ella had anticipated, especially when she meets the kid’s gorgeous drama teacher. Lexi was a really great MC; fun and mixed-up and sarky in equal measures and I really enjoyed her narrative. She was totally flawed but really likeable too and I liked the way she developed over the course of the book. She was so relatable in the way she felt so much pressure to conform to being the image her friends wanted of her and how she thought

Alright, are you looking for a laugh out loud, fun and lively romcom to take the winter blues away? I've got one right here from one of my favorite Boldwood authors, Portia MacIntosh. Lexi was very dissapointed from this kind of life, so for the last three years she was trying to change herself. Outside, she was acting like a perfect girl. Lexi feels like she should hold up the image of a 'perfect' girl, to put up a front and hide the fact that her mother is an irresponsible alcoholic and that her drug addict father abandoned them when she was just a little girl. She has the school bad boy sneaking in through her bedroom window at night, has friends who judge and shun her childhood friend Nolan (the only one who knows everything about her) and she harbours an unrequited love on her picture-perfect friend Ben.Lexi had a no strings attached relationship with Tyler, which he was fine with at first. Now, towards the end of senior year, Tyler realizes he’s in love with her and wants more from the relationship. Lexi does not feel the same way as she’s still pinning after her friend, Ben, who may not be as perfect as Lexi seems to believe. I liked very much Tyler, because he was an authentic guy. A guy that even though Lexi was using him was there for her when she needed him the most. He was the right guy for her. I really loved that dude!!!
