About this deal

Additionally, a tiny metal dome-shaped lens hood (LH-XF27) is also included in the box which screws into the 39mm filter threads on the front of the lens. On the X-S10 I get a real-world improvement of five stops. I get 100% tripod-equivalent sharpness handheld 86% of the time at a quarter of a second! The same goes for the TTArtisan 28/5.6 M-Mount, which looks on 1st look like a Leica Summaron-M 28/5.6, but it's not. People are always *that* fast to judge, and it's silly just from outside looks...just saying.

Alright …. let’s get right to the point … this lens is sharp … I mean EXTREMELY SHARP. From the widest aperture, this lens competes in the most excellent class. Some say it’s as sharp as the Xf90mm F2, which many say is the sharpest lens in the Fuji range. I confirm it here. The level of detail is incredible, especially for such a tiny lens. Who would have believed it? it is excellent, both in the centre and corners, from F4.The focus ring is smooth in action without being loose. As with the original, it has no “hard stops” at either end of the focus range. Optical excellence, lots of metal parts in the same size as a lens cap for not much money? Everyone should have one of these! The 27mm focal length works out to around 41mm on a full frame camera, and hits the ‘human eye’ sweet spot of a 55.5° angle of view. I’m often torn between the width of my 23mm f/2 and the tighter composition of my 35mm f2, so the 27mm provides a nice middle ground. In our view, their efforts have been largely successful for a standard prime lens - see the examples below. Sharpness

What more? This lens gives a qualitative impression. It is very well made, with the WR special attention given to its strength.Comparing the results at different aperture settings, I was only able to see a very slight improvement in centre sharpness when switching from f/2.8 to f/8 when the images are sized to 100% on a computer screen. The difference is a little more apparent at the corners, but the XF 27mm F2.8 R WR by no means disgraces itself at f/2.8. Similarly, there’s a hint of the effect of diffraction at f/16, but I’d happily use any of the aperture settings. The only gotchas with this Fuji lens is that there is no instant manual-focus override and no aperture ring. You have to move a switch on your camera to get to or from manual focus mode, and move a dial on the camera to change the aperture. The aperture may be narrower than some ultra-fast primes, but I still loved the bokeh coming from this lens. With that said, if you had considered the XF 27mm before the update Fujifilm has now made it even better by adding the aperture ring and making the lens weather-resistant.

When sunlight hits this lens just right, you’ll get a bit of a white edge to the image, almost as if you applied a white gradient to the image in Photoshop. This flare offers plenty of chances for adding character if you can get the light to hit just right. Color Rendering This focal length will therefore require a lot of work from you, which is very interesting to learn as a street photographer. Once you master this focal length, you will master everything. I see no spherochromatism (called color bokeh by hobbyists). This means that out-of-focus highlights remain neutral and don't take on slight color fringes. Get this lens to add-on to a Fuji X-mount camera, but if your plan is to get a tiny walk-around lens, get an X100T instead of this lens. The technical specs for this lens don’t stand out. A maximum aperture of f/2.8 isn’t eye-popping. The stats seem kind of ho-hum—in fact, that is why I hesitated to buy this lens in the first place. But stats don’t tell the whole story. What’s most important are the pictures, and the Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR captures wonderful photographs!Anyone familiar with Fujifilm’s nomenclature will notice the letters R and WR in the name of the 2021 version, indicating it now has an aperture ring and weather-sealing. Despite its compact size, measuring 62x23mm and weighing 84g, Fujifilm’s managed to squeeze-in both a manual focusing ring and a new aperture ring, although the former has understandably narrowed compared to the 2013 model. A dome-shaped lens hood is also included. The Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR lens has an internal focusing (IF) system that uses the same audible high-torque coreless DC motor as on the original lens. It’s tough to test for vignetting with Fujinon lenses since the RAW files and jpegs are processed with a built in lens profile that removes it. I’ve read that you can remove these profiles with editors like Iridient Developer. As a photographer that is already using Lightroom and Capture One, I’m going to pass on a third piece of software and just live with the built in corrections. Bokeh

Percent Perfectly Sharp Shots" are the percentage of frames with 100% perfect tripod-equivalent sharpness I get when I'm shooting hand-held while free-standing with no support or bracing. This is a very strict test; in actual shooting at typical print sizes I get acceptable sharpness at much slower speeds, but for the purposes of seeing how much improvement an IS system gives, this is the most precise method. To me, this lens feels natural and effortless. Because its FOV is so close to that of the human eye, whenever I visualize a shot, I can simply move to where I think I need to be, pull the camera up to my eye, and snap the photo without having to do any additional maneuvering. The end product is almost always exactly what I had envisioned, which is a special quality in itself. The ability to capture a pre-visualized slice of life without much effort makes this lens the favorite in my collection. For this reason, I call the 27mm my “slice of life” lens. With that said, the 27mm excels in everyday genres of photography that focus on documenting people, places, things, and the fleeting moments of life—genres like documentary, street, travel, lifestyle, and even landscape photography. It works surprisingly well on my Fuji X-T30; all data communication and autofocus work as well as a real Fujinon lens. What little barrel distortion there is can be corrected for more critical use by plugging these figures into Photoshop's

Crop from above 4 MP image at 100%. If this is 6" wide on your screen, the complete image would print at 25 x 17" (64 x 42 cm) at this same magnification. The smaller the focal length, the greater the focusing area will be with an equivalent aperture, which is an advantage in street photography, where we try to have the most excellent focal length with as much light as possible). If you walk across a parking lot, you might see a dozen Mercedes C-class. You are not comparing those by their engine or accessories but only through recognition from the distance. And this is the same here. They offer a Fuji-lookalike. It is a copy on the outside!! This is enough for me not to support any company who is unable to come up with an own design.
