About this deal

There are, however a few flaws in the sheath. The largest being that you are forced into vertical carry. There is no option carry this knife horizontally. Also, the sheath is not as heavy duty as others in this style, as there is some flex in the plastic. Finally, the folded plastic used in the button holder will likely be prone to wear as there is no rotating hinge of any kind. If you make extensive use of the button holder, the lifespan of the sheath might not match that of the knife. Fit and Finish A nice little knife to work with, I gave it a sharpen on my wet stones and its like a razor. It has a good feel to it and for the price it's good.

Ever since Hultafors started making knives, we have strived to offer unique solutions to match specific needs in various crafts. Bushcraft is no exception. When discovering that our craftsmen’s knives had become favorites with the outdoor crowd as well – we got inspired to develop knives especially suited to their needs. The result is a range of knives dedicated to bushcraft and outdoor life. Outdoor Knife OK1 - For tough tasks in the field Like many of us, I have several Moras around the place, hanging on nails, sitting in car trunks and so on, being the best-known and widely available decent budget fixed-bladed knives. The handle is made from super-durable PP plastic and fitted with a Santoprene friction grip. A long tang makes the knife very durable. The sheath retains the GK very well and shows no intention of getting loose over time. It protects the knife well enough - and the user against the blade, which is vital, and for this price everything else is a bonus. There is a drain hole in the bottom and it has a thumb rest. Jaur I'm pretty sure he was joking but thanks for the additional video. I couldn't find any in English when I went looking.

Mora Companion Spark Blue - Bushcraft Knife with 4.1" Blade and Integrated Fire Starter

I'd be interested if they ever went on to make a 6" blade version to compete with the Mora Pathfinder, I'd asked Mora if they'd ever consider a 6" on the Pro Robust but they weren't interested, polite enough but really not interested, it's obviously to me now they were working on other models... The Hultafors GK has a main grind of 20 degrees included (10 per side) and a large secondary bevel - that I measured with an electronic angle tool at 28 degrees included or 14 per side. Sounds familiar? That secondary bevel has the same edge angle as the main grind/bevel of a Mora HD/Robust et al, but it has a far thinner shoulder behind it - the main grind at 20 degrees. So the blade as a whole cuts and slices noticeably better, and is still plenty tough enough.

But Mora have competition. From Hultafors, also in Sweden. Hultafors makes all kind of tools and is part of an industrial group that also sells safety gear and workwear - overalls, bibs, equipment vests and so on - on which you’ll find the typical Swedish buttons that you can hang knives in plastic sheaths on. They also invented the folding carpenter’s rule a very long time ago. The OK4 is a partial tang knife meaning that the blade steel only goes about two thirds of the way through the handle. As we describe in our Survival Knife Guide, this is not as strong as a full tang design, but here it is substantially longer than most partial tang knives. The knife did not fail in our testing, even with aggressive batoning. The short blade only spans small two or three inch limbs, but the OK4 split kindling with ease. The only damage the OK4 took was to the coating on the 90 degree spine, where the impact of the baton chipped the finish off. Though to be fair with that coating removed the OK4 scraped sparks from the Hultafors Fire Steel FS much better than when fully coated, so I can’t complain. Yeah I get that it was a joke, but it also came across as an unfair and uninformed description of the OK4.

Zero Scandi grind shouldn't mean, no scandi at all, took an hour on a course diamond stone to get an apoex. The plastic sheath on the OK4 features a fabric belt loop and ferro rod holder. It is well thought out and carries the knife safely and quietly. There is a drainage hole at the bottom, which is a must for any knife and doubly so for a carbon steel blade with large exposed Scandi grind bevels. To aid in extraction there is an excellent external thumb nob to push off from. The angle and placement of the nob are a perfect foil to the tight grip the sheath keeps on the knife.

Past these two issues, the rest of the fit and finish is quite good. The blade coating was even and well applied. The printing and logos are all crisp and well laid out. The two types of handle plastic are mated well and have not frayed or come loose. Plus, the ribbed texturing on the handle is perfect. As the handle is the stand out feature on the OK4, I am pleased that it was not subject to the major flaw found on the blade. Hultafors Fire Steel FS The GK has not gone really blunt on me yet, btw, nor has it suffered damage from things like unfortunately hitting an embedded nail in a former fence pole log I was debarking. The cutting edge has a scandi grind for superior sharpness and is easy to resharpen. A protective electrophoretic deposition coating (EPD) for best rust protection. The sheath attaches to the belt by a 3 inch loop of high quality nylon webbing that is single stitched. The elastic band on the midsection is also the home of the ferro rod holder. The knife and FS Fire Steel carry well; the set up dangles and flexes comfortably as you move about. Both the plastic and fabric sections have both held up to my use with no noticeable wear.
