About this deal

To complete the problems facing both the TMOs and Lambeth Living, suspicions of fraudulent activity have surfaced recently. I was at a meeting on Friday with about 25 evangelical and Anglo-Catholic leaders, who met with Archbishop Justin Welby and his staff at Lambeth Palace Library in London, to discuss the proposed blessings for same-sex couples. Lambeth (5 th) and Southwark (3 rd) are both in the top 5 London [15] boroughs for stop and search. Many managers have gone, the council has a hard line on fraud and the HRA and homelessness budgets are forecast to fall in line at the end of next year – even if many more tenants will be on housing benefit by then thanks to the recession.

Mr Lee believes the future is brighter. ‘Now we have got the HRA stabilised and the temporary accommodation budget, we are much more confident about the future. You can’t go anywhere without a sound financial position, and now that is sorted,’ he says. Transport for London (TfL) has launched local engagement on plans to introduce 65km of new 20mph speed limits within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Lewisham, Southwark, Wandsworth, Merton, Bromley and Lambeth. Lowering speeds is a key part of the Mayor's Vision Zero goal to eliminate death and serious injury from London's transport network and enable more walking and cycling in the capital. Laurie previously worked for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which works to reduce global health inequality and poverty around the world. As Deputy Director of Policy & Advocacy he changed the way the Foundation partnered with policymakers, so it could achieve change at scale. Collision data from around the world shows that the speed at which people are driving or riding is the single most important factor in whether a collision takes place and how severely people are injured. The police reported speed as a contributory factor in almost half of fatal collisions in 2020. Lambeth’s council chamber looks a lot like a criminal court, and when Ms Kerrigan spoke at January’s meeting, it was as if councillors were on trial. ‘Tenants will certainly remember [the rent rise] next time they cast their vote,’ she warned.Chris Lee, executive director of housing, regeneration and environment since 2006, says: ‘We have frozen his assets to recover our money and the insurance claim covers most of it.’ But Mr Lee says he is confident that the ALMO will cope. ‘Making savings isn’t incompatible with achieving two stars,’ he says. The Dashboard allows viewing of Met performance in relation to disproportionality and public perception in Lambeth in some detail The parents of the schoolgirl demanded a meeting with the police, so they can “explain to everyone why he was reinstated”. They also called for the Met’s ‘safer schools’ officers to be abolished and for trauma counselling to be offered to children like their daughter who experience violence at the hands of police. So after the fraud, the incompetence, the soaring rents, the poor repairs – is Lambeth finally getting a grip on its housing? And at the council’s corporate committee on 15 January, a report described incidents of suspected TMO fraud since April 2008 – one of which culminated in Holland Town TMO’s contract with Lambeth Living being terminated. The TMO has since folded.

TfL is working in partnership with the Metropolitan Police on its commitment to improve safety on London's roads and increase the levels of speed enforcement undertaken by the police, building the capacity to enforce up to one million speeding offences per year by 2024/2025. This year, 2022/23, the police will enforce around 650,000 speeding offences, an increase of around 30 per cent compared to the previous year.

Action Plan Dashboard [3] that provides access to key data in relation to trust, confidence and disproportionality. Lambeth switched from a Lib Dem to a Labour-run council in 2006, and the current administration blames the shortfall on historically low rents – the third lowest in London before service charges – along with a smaller government settlement and poor rent collection. The Metropolitan police said officers were called by the ambulance service at about 9.33am and the female cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.03am. A spokesperson for Axis says the company ‘is unable to comment on a case that is currently going through arbitration’. He adds that Axis maintains a ‘strong relationship’ with Amicushorizon. The campaign in Lambeth will continue the efforts started by the authority’s “Look out for Lambeth” campaign in March. While the officer has since been moved out of the school to another post, the girl’s parents are demanding to know why he returned at all following what was a highly traumatic experience for the then 16-year-old. The consequence of being disproportionately policed is increased entry into the criminal justice system. She was in the middle of fasting, she was just doing her GCSEs, I don’t want what happened to my daughter to happen to any child,” she said.
