Overall, this is turning into an interesting series. Not sure how long it will last. The plot seems to indicate only a few more volumes but we shall see if more depth is presented in future volumes. I don't usually read the romance genre - I just liked the idea of a vampire being secretly the CEO of a company without anyone knowing. Then there was a whole witch subplot with the main female lead, which was more than I was expecting, but coming from fantasy books I would've liked to see more of that. I'm aware that's not the priority of this book though, so I won't hold that against it too much.

Midnight Secretary is written and illustrated by Ohmi Tomu. It was serialized by Shogakukan in the josei (aimed at younger adult women) manga magazine Petit Comic from 2006 to May 2009. Serial chapters were collected in seven shinsōban volumes under the Flower Comics imprint. Holy Burns Evil: Whenever the vampires are actually evil is up to debate, but they are weakened by the symbols and places of sincere faith. Kaya gets a crucifix for one of Kyouhei's women with no ill effects on him, but Kyouhei barely copes with eating at a restaurant located in a former church, with Matsuhide the chauffeur revealing that the devout Christian faith of the owner and his wife (who the dinner meeting is with) is why Kyouhei is in a bad state (he's unsteady and extremely hungry in the limo afterward). Midnight Secretary Vol.1 Chapter 1 : Bloody Night Office

Great characters, great development. They pass trough all stages of love like denial, fury, acceptance and mutual affection. In work they know what they are there for and at night they know it too. Humans have human troubles, but the vampires doesn't share them. They have other affairs, usually even more serious. And their behavior is pretty realistic. General thoughts: I was very surprised to find this book in my local train station book store - the US hasn't had any of Tomu Ohmi's mangas licensed yet, and although this series was quite popular in scanlation circles I hadn't heard of a German license. I Can Change My Beloved: Played with. Kaya doesn't believe that Kyouhei can change and doesn't even try. However, Kyouhei does change, in that he becomes more open and, even though not becoming less proud, he doesn't let his vampire pride control himself so much. Kaya has decided that it's best to trust her heart, and express her love, even though she feels that Kyohei will never feel the same about her as she does about him. Funny thing being that he does, and it frightens him, so he feels he must have time away from her.

One thing that did really work for me is that Midnight Secretary is a manga about adults. I’ve been getting really into anime and manga over the past few years, but I’m always frustrated when the vast majority of stories seem to revolve around high school and teenage characters. I prefer reading about grown-ups doing grown-up things, especially when there’s romance involved. So the fact that Midnight Secretary is about career-driven adults who sometimes need to drink blood is nice. So yeah he's as cliche as things can get. He's a vampire, he's got mommy issues, he's rich, he's *conventionally* hot, he's very hypocritical but it's alright because he's good looking. a b c Tomu, Ohmi (2007). "Chapter 2". Je pense que c’est pas le genre de série qui révolutionne quoi que ce soit ou qui offre des twists surprenants. C’est plutôt le genre on plonge et on a le coup de cœur soit on l’a pas. Perso, je l’ai eu.
