About this deal

Valerian absolute oil is obtained by cold extraction from the rhizomes of the plant, Valeriana officinalis, and has been used for centuries as an effective and safe calming agent. Sesquiterpenes:(contained in the volatile oil): isovaleric acid, valerenic acid, valerenal, and valerenol While treats and toys may be enough to distract and calm some pets, for more anxious dogs cats, and small animals you may have to explore alternative methods such as anti-anxiety products. These should ideally be introduced at least two weeks before Bonfire Night to allow your pet the chance to get used to them. Dogs are so precious, and as owners, we always want them to feel safe and loved, so if your dog is showing signs of being stressed and anxious, you might need a calming product for your pet, like a dog calming plug-in or a safe space with a dog bed to retreat to, to help them relax. Certain factors such as separation anxiety, Bonfire Night, loud noises, past trauma, phobias, illness or injuries can all be triggers for nervy dogs and are situations that may make your pet feel uncomfortable. We've searched the web for highly rated and positively reviewed pet calming products that are designed to help with separation anxiety, aggression, stress while travelling and more, so every possibility is covered. All to help your anxious animal feel happier.

You only need a couple of sprays and this will last between 2 and 6 hours depending on the individual pet. Pet owners can also try pheromone products such as a plug-in diffuser which replicates natural chemicals released by animals to send a comforting message. For dogs, they will replicate those released by their mother after giving birth to relax their offspring and let them know they are in a safe space. Always consult your vet if your cat is showing signs of stress. Your pet's problem may be of a clinical origin and may require further treatment.

FAQs

Pet Remedy is available as a diffuser and as a spray and both can be used to reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety in pets. For pets who experience severe noise phobia and anxiety, there are different supplements or tablets which can help but it’s always best to seek advice from an expert – either by booking an appointment with your local vet or speaking to the pet care advisors in-store at Pets at Home. Start creating positive associations Unlike most other natural calming supplements, Pet Remedy is delivered indirectly as a fine aerosol. Our Plug-in diffuser periodically delivers small ‘puffs’ of the formula into the pet’s environment, where very smallamountsare inhaled while the bird remains in that environment. To put this into perspective, we are all ‘bathed’ in a sea of millions of scent molecules suspended in the air around us. Many of these molecules are from natural sources, such as the flowers and plants around us, our animals, the humans we live with and so on. If your dog struggles with any excess energy, take your dog for a brisk walk before leaving for work in the morning so any extra alertness is taken off. This puts them in the mood to relax. A 45-minute walk is what's recommended for most breeds if they’re being left indoors for a longer period of time. 3. Find a trusted dog walker to break up the day Valerian is a perennial herb with short rhizomes, aromatic feathery leaves and clusters of small pink or white owers. There are over 260 different species of Valerian worldwide but only a few have calming properties and we obtain optimum results for Pet Remedy from Valeriana officinalis. This species is native to Europe, North America, and the northern part of Asia.

For bonding rabbits, spray a little on a damp cloth or fingers and gently rub around muzzles of rabbits. This helps with scent swapping as well as calming, which in turn helps speed up the bonding process. This same procedure can be used for bonding other pets such as dogs, cats, rodents, and horses. When used as directed, Pet Remedy can be relied upon as a much safer product than many other alternatives for reducing your pet’s anxiety. One of the best things you can do to ease your pet’s anxiety is to make sure they have a quiet space away from the loud bangs and bright lights. For rabbits and guinea pigs, it’s best to not bring them inside if they’re not used to it – this could make them more anxious. You should provide them with lots of bedding to hide in and partly cover the hutch in blankets to help muffle the noise. Both pets are sociable animals so should live in pairs or groups of their own kind to be happy, healthy and feel safe in the long term. Try pet calming products During firework displays, you should try to muffle the sound and hide the flashing lights as best you can by keeping windows, blinds and curtains closed. You can also try turning on the TV or playing rhythmic music moderately loud using Pets at Home’s Spotify playlists, which have a range of genres to choose from.

If you are seeing signs of stress or fear and would like some support, the teams at Pets at Home or Vets4Pets, both part of the Pets at Home family, will be able to help. All pets are different and it’s important that you’re able to recognise what anxiety looks like for yours. In times of stress or anxiety the nerves get over stimulated, which leads on to the many different signs of stress we see in our pets. Several years of research and trials have resulted in a unique formula using low concentration Valerian essential oil, blended with Vetiver, Sweet Basil, and Sage Starts to help instantly and will help with separation anxiety, bonding, fireworks, new home, bereavement, new pet in home, and any other stressful situation.

Unlike most other natural calming supplements, Pet Remedy is delivered indirectly as a fine aerosol. Our Plug-in diffuser periodically delivers small ‘puffs’ of the formula into the environment, where very small amountsare inhaled while the animal remains in that environment. To put this into perspective, we are all ‘bathed’ in a sea of millions of scent molecules suspended in the air around us. Many of these molecules are from natural sources, such as the flowers and plants around us, our animals, the humans we live with and so on. Create their haven in advance of firework season by using familiar toys and lots of bedding for them to burrow in, including pieces of clothing with your scent so that they’re comforted by the smell. You can then use treats and rewards to build positive associations with the area so it’s somewhere they feel happy and safe. It’s also best to leave some treats there for them to chew on. This depends how old your puppy is. Puppies are sometimes released by breeders at a very young age (6-8 weeks old) and at this age they are very accepting of change and do not need any sort of calming product at all. As long as the new home is suitable then this, for most puppies, is absolutely the best age to get a puppy, despite what many breeders will say. (All puppies destined to be Guide Dogs for the blind are homed at this age and they develop the best temperament possible). However many breeders like to keep the puppies longer than this and indeed some puppies are, for whatever reason, homed at much greater ages. The older the puppy is (beyond about 7 weeks of age), the more of a stress it is when they move home. If your puppy is over the age of 8 weeks then I would recommend Zylkene as the most natural calming agent for a puppy. If by any chance your puppy is 12 weeks of age or older, then the move will certainly be a stress and Zylkene combined with the Pet Remedy Calming product would be my suggestion.
