About this deal

The Parent Control is a bit underwhelming, but it gets the job done. And it can schedule Internet access for multiple devices. The Asus RT-AX68U’s QoS Settings. Adaptive QoS

Those people who work-from-home & learn-from-home will greatly benefit from this new feature with optimized streaming experiences. Range was also the best among routers theoretically capable of 1,740Mbps and higher that I have tested. The RT-AC68U actually delivered better throughput as the range increased, going up by 5 percent as the distance increased from 5 to 30 feet. The RT-AC66U's throughput had dropped by 3 percent by that distance. Netgear's Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band WiFi Router (R8000), a premium 802.11ac router in the same league as the RT-68U, increased its throughput by 2 percent at 30 feet. In all, the RT-AX68U’s real-world speeds proved to be exactly that of a broadcaster of its specs. It’s generally fast enough to deliver a sub-Gigabit Internet connection in full. Excellent coverage The RT-AC68U uses a Broadcom wireless controller and features that company's TurboQAM technology. As a result, the router supports up to 600Mbps at 2.4GHz and up to 1,300Mbps on the 5GHz band.Even with a 5ghz WIFI6 IoT push down the line, most devices will limit bandwidth to 80mhz due to DFS and compatibility issues across markets. Things like PS5 and M1 Macbooks are hard limited to 80mhz for this reason. New Xbox didn’t even bother with WIFI6 hardware and uses an older AC chip. My 2×2 Wi-Fi 6 generally connected at 1.2Gbps of negotiated speed and registered the sustained real-world throughputs of between 770Mbps and 870Mbps from up to 40 feet (12 m) away. That’s about as fast as a Gigabit connection can give you. Asus has one of the most stylish router management interfaces there is, hands down. The design is clean and easy to work with, and it has an appealingly futuristic look that almost reminds me of thecontrols for a video game. ASUS RT-AX68U is one of our favorite wireless routers with Wi-Fi 6 for several reasons: we like the way it looks, and we appreciate how it performs when using older standards like Wi-Fi 4 and Wi-Fi 5. Plenty of households and small businesses don’t have many modern devices and computers that work well with Wi-Fi 6. Most Wi-Fi 6 routers focus on providing the best performance when using the new standard, while ASUS RT-AX68U also delivers excellent performance when using the older standards. To top things off, the new Instant Guard mobile app allows you to connect to your home through VPN and protect your mobile devices while on the go. If you want a well-rounded Wi-Fi 6 router, ASUS RT-AX68U is an excellent choice that we recommend to everyone. Unboxing the ASUS RT-AX68U AX2700 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router

Without the support for the 160MHz channel width and a Multi-Gig port, the RT-AX68 doesn’t have everything it takes to deliver top Wi-Fi performance, according to the way I test routers. And that was the case in my testing. Looking for a mesh system? Get your home wired with network cables, get a couple of units, and you’re all set. Gigabit-class network storage performance As a rule, though, it’s always a better idea to set up your router from scratch. Also, note that since routers are different in specs, you can’t always port all settings from one to another. Among other things, the Asus RT-AX68U features WAN Link Aggregation. A robust full web interface with an excellent optional mobile app On the inside, though, its hardware is a bit subdued, relatable to the similarly-priced RT-AX58U. But the two are quite different. Hardware specifications: RT-AX68U vs. RT-AX58U doesn’t really have a triple core, but rather Broadcom marketing counts the cpu radio in the SoC. its a 3 (SoC)+1(Radio CPU) design. AX68U is 2(CPU) + 2 (Radio CPU). Reply

Robust control and optimization with ASUSWRT With the ASUSWRT dashboard UI, setup, monitor, and control network applications You’ll note that the RT-AX58U is a 2×2 Wi-Fi 6 broadcaster, while the RT-AX68U is a 3×3 one. Yet, the former is faster thanks to the support for the 160MHz channel width. RT-AX68U: A standard Asus router That same argument cannot be made, however, with clients that support 802.11ac. The RT-AC68U is the top-performing router in my 802.11ac-mode tests in both speed and performance. It turned in an amazing 290.5Mbps, whereas its predecessor only averaged 129Mbps. The second faster router in this mode is the Trendnet AC1750 Dual Band Wireless Router (TEW-812DRU)which averaged283.5Mbps. What’s most valuable, though, is what you can do with the router’s USB ports. You can use them to host portable drives, USB printers, or cellular dongles. Online learning, including Khan academy®, Udemy®, Coursera®, TED®, VIPKiD®, 51Talk®, XDF®, Xueersi®

A quality of service engine that allows you to prioritize Internet traffic to support different applications and services — video conferencing, gaming, and so on. The RT-AC68U also offers some advanced features not found in all consumer routers that make it ideal for SMBs and techies who want to tinker. First, you can set up to six guest networks: three on the 2.4GHz band and three on 5GHz. Also, the Asus router has a full built-in VPN server, not just VPN pass-through support, which is what most consumer routers offer. What does all this mean? The older router is a good deal if you have only 802.11n clients, especially if you plan to connect to them at 5GHz. Network Protection is a friendly version of a home firewall application, similar to the Firewalla Blue + case. It won’t give you a lot of in-depth information, but it does keep your network safe, to a certain extent, of course.

RT-AX82U

The RT-AX68U is rated AX2700, as opposed to AX3000 of the RT-AX58U. The numbers don’t mean much in real life, but they show the biggest difference between them. I was able to get a hold of the RT-AX68U significantly before launch and used it for more than a week before publishing this review and had no problem with it, both as a single or part of an AiMesh system. It proved to be a reliable Wi-Fi machine.

The RT-AC68U also features dual USB ports for file, printers and 3G/4G modems sharing and a USB 3.0 port for up to ten times faster data transfers than USB 2.0. Like other routers, the RT-AX68U comes with a Traffic Analyser feature, which includes traffic monitoring and statistical tools for those wanting to keep tabs on what’s been going on in their network. The RT-AX68U comes with a stand set of network ports — one WAN and four LANs, all Gigabit. There are also USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports. You also get advanced customization options for additional tweaking, including AP isolation, setting the multicast rate, enabling jumbo frames for the LAN, disabling the HW accelerator, and more—options that are typically in access points for the SMB. The RT-AC68U also offers robust IPv6 support. It's not a device that's on the same level as a business access point, such as the Meraki M16, which supports many simultaneous connections and is managed with a controller, but it can work just fine for a SOHO network.
