About this deal

The SM.81 was a robust, three-engine monoplane, with a fixed tailwheel undercarriage, with the mainwheels enclosed by large spats to reduce drag, and had a crew of six. [4] The aircraft was of mixed construction: the fuselage had a framework of steel tubes with a metallic-covered aft portion, while the rest was wood- and fabric-covered. It had a relatively large fuselage, an unnecessary characteristic for a bomber, which determined its future as a transport aircraft. Since the engines were quite small, the fuselage did not blend well with the nose engine, even less so than the SM.79. Many windows were present to provide the fuselage interior with daylight, giving the impression that it was a passenger aircraft. The KM 184 has a beautifully flat response in the range of ukulele. This means a clean, accurate capture of the instrument's harmonic content. As opposed to more traditional microphones, Sennheiser’s SKM 835-XSW-A sports a customizable audio adjustment range of up to 45 decibels (in increments of 5 decibels). At repair shops and air force depots it's likely that the old colours soldiered on for longer. Some of these have been proposed as possible colours for the well known splinter scheme G.55s of the 1a Squadriglia/2o Gruppo of the ANR. In North Africa and Italy, SM.81s were used more and more as night bombers, no longer assigned to anti-ship and day-light bombing after the first year of war. 145 Group delivered as of the end of January 1941: 11,600 men and 1,140tonnes (1,260tons) of various materials, in 3,200 flying hours.

The SM.81's defensive armament was better than its successor, the SM.79, and even than that of the SM.84, although of smaller calibre, but still insufficient when faced with modern enemy fighter opposition. It was also capable of carrying a greater bombload than the SM.79, due to its wide fuselage. Andersson, Lennart (2008). A History of Chinese Aviation: Encyclopedia of Aircraft and Aviation in China until 1949. Taipei, Republic of China: AHS of ROC. ISBN 978-957-28533-3-7. The SM.81 was a militarised version of Savoia-Marchetti's earlier SM.73 airliner, having cantilever wings, three engines and a fixed undercarriage. The origins of this version were in pursuit of the interests of Italo Balbo, a brilliant exponent of the Fascist regime (but nevertheless "exiled" in Libya by Mussolini), who required a fast and efficient aircraft that was capable of serving the vast Italian colonies in Africa. In addition, one aircraft, the SM.81B, was built in a twin-engined configuration, powered by two 627kW (840hp) Isotta-Fraschini Asso XI inline engines and a streamlined, glazed nose. It had inferior performance to the three-engined versions and was not taken further. [6] Fuel [ edit ] Of more interest is its frequency response curve that's incredibly flat. Self-noise is very low, output is high and it exhibits minimum colouration, even off axis. In short, it’s a dream to work with. Reproduction is faithful and its uniform, transparent character makes multi-mic setups a breeze.

Tech Specs

In terms of construction, Shure’s SM81-LC is made of the finest steel materials and was designed to last for years.

Since hi-hat cymbals produce razor-sharp sounds at super-high frequencies, AT2021 can effortlessly tolerate up to 145 decibels, making it deserving of the top slot in today’s list. The interior colour of the SM.79 was mainly grey, very similar to what became Grigio Azzurro Chiaro 1. The tubular sttucture was also painted in grey. The floor was generally in natural metal while the seats were in "havana", a medium brown colour. Another experimental example was an aircraft for dealing with magnetic mines: it was called the Saturno because it had a large electrified steel ring to trigger the mines. The weight of the gear was initially too high so the ring was changed to one made of aluminium.

The VR2 may seem a bit pricey, but compared to most studio quality ribbon mics it’s surprisingly good value.

If you’re looking for something reliable and a bit different in terms of design, the Audio-Technica ATM450 is an excellent choice to consider.

The mic comes with a great isolation clamp to mount it, and it does a good job of stopping noise when you’re recording.

When you consider the mileage you'll get out of the SM57, it could be the best-value mic you ever buy. As far as sound quality is of concern, Sennheiser’s SKM 835-XSW-A has a flat frequency response unblemished by jitter or distortion, even at louder volumes. Nady’s CM-88 requires up to 52V of phantom power, but you’ll get the power supply in the box; its frequency range is great when it comes to highs but isn’t as exemplary in its lows and mids.
