Just out of sight above you are Floating Islands in the Sky, while beneath your feet are vast caverns, underground Jungles, and the kingdom of Hades. At one of the two far ends of the map a huge Dungeon full of treasure awaits you, and somewhere out there is the ever-spreading threat of The Corruption, a vast environmental decay threatening the entire world. A slow theme with bubbling sounds and a pirate-like feel, in stark contrast with the fast-paced and chaotic fight it accompanies. The player's spawn point is on the beach of one Ocean. Andrew the Guide, Whitney the Steampunker, Yorai the Princess, a Party Girl, and an Angora Town Bunny will also spawn there and a Party immediately starts. A majority of the world is painted in bright colors. Players can encounter many different types of enemies in Terraria, the occurrence of which depends on several factors including time, location, and random events. [2] The game features an open-ended class system, primarily divided into melee, ranged, magic and summoner classes. [6] Players may also battle bosses that utilize a number of different combat mechanics and can drop rare and valuable items. Bosses are summoned by using certain items or when certain criteria are met. The defeat of some bosses is directly tied to in-game progression, while others remain optional. [7] Defeating the Wall of Flesh boss advances the game into "hardmode", which adds many new enemies throughout the world, as well as new NPCs and items. [8] Like bosses, players can battle special enemies and mini bosses during invasions, in which enemies appear constantly and they either must be defeated or a certain amount of time must pass before the event ends. Terraria also features seasonal events which activate during certain periods of the real world calendar year, adding new enemies and content.
