About this deal

The Bellerophone Brothers; Pip and Squeak, taxi drivers in Stain'd by the Sea, always looking for a literary tip. Dying Town: Stain'd-by-the-Sea, whose main export, ink, is running out. Already the town newspaper and telegraph have closed, and other businesses like the taxi and cafe have to make do on bartering instead of money. Ellington figured out that part of Hangfire's plan had something to do with caviar, and requested a book from the library about the process in which it is made. She then hides the Bombinating Beast statue in the secret compartment under the secret compartment in her bag, and then met with Sharon Haines, a member of the Inhumane Society. She disguised herself at Wade Academy as Filene N. Gottlin, an anagram of her name. Everyone at the school was kept drugged with laudanum, but Ellington hid coffee grounds in a flowerpot and made herself coffee to reverse the effects. She communicates with Hangfire through Sharon, and from her she learns that Hangfire plans to burn the library, but Ellington doesn't plan on stopping him, because she doesn't want to risk losing her father. As part of her deal with the Inhumane Society, Ellington made Sharon promise to fetch and take care of her phonograph.

Exact Words: Lemony promised to help Ellington, and her father. He views feeding him to the Bombinating Beast as doing just that. The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahme: In Chapter Eleven, Lemony recommends the book by name to the Bellerophon brothers. Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Lemony quits V.F.D. (although not permanently if the A Series of Unfortunate Events proper is anything to go by) in Why is This Night Different from All Other Nights?. Graffiti at the Wade Academy mentions Olaf—fitting, as it's a school for the sons of earls and counts. At the end of the last book it's confirmed that Olaf is a member of VFD at this point.

The Tunnels

In 2018, an alternate cover of Who Could That Be at This Hour? was released, featuring a more realistic style of illustration, though the inside of the book remained the same. The blurb on the book included a reference to Netflix, which was at the time releasing a series based on A Series of Unfortunate Events, leading some to believe that the new cover release may be predating a prequel adaptation; no such plans have been confirmed, however, and neither have any subsequent books been released with new appearances. Ellington says her father once read her a book about a bunch of elves and things who got into a war over a piece of jewelry that everyone liked but nobody could wear. Lemony thinks the wizard in it should have used his powers more. There are also quite a few between Moxie and Lemony, which of course leads to a Betty and Veronica situation. Four Is Death: Has four installments, to go with the main series' thirteen. It doesn't have four chapters, however, but the usual thirteen. As with the originals, Lemony has a way with words. Numerous times I found myself stopping to think about one of his signature offhand comments, sayings that reveal a keen sense of understanding of the world around him. I also enjoyed the little game he plays with the audience, of describing a book plot without actually giving away the title. In this way he often blurs the lines between children's lit and adult fiction, as you being to wonder who this series is truly meant for.

Dystopian Fiction Books Everyone Should Read: Explore The Darker Side of Possible Worlds and Alternative Futures Officers Harvey and Mimi Mitchum are a married couple who act as the only two police officers in Stain'd-by-the-Sea. They believe their son, Stewart, to be incapable of any wrongdoing, and tend to circumvent the judicial process in the pursuit of justice. They also argue a lot. Hector says at the end of the book, "Monty's worried". This is most likely a reference to Montgomery Montgomery. He also mentions a "Haruki" being worried, which is also the name of a patient in The Hostile Hospital, possibly confirming her membership in V.F.D.

More All the Wrong Questions

S. Theodora refuses to tell anyone what the S in her name stands for. But all of her following statements begin with S, such as 'Standing next to me is my apprentice'. Ellington Feint: a mysterious girl with green eyes and a love of coffee. She wants the Bombinating Beast so that she can trade it with Hangfire in return for her father, Armstrong. While it ends about a decade (if not longer) before A Series of Unfortunate Events begins, a few characters who will become prominent in that are present or at least mentioned here. The ending also suggests what might have been the ultimate fate of Fiona and the Quagmire kids. (Unless Hangfire or one of his associates made a giant submarine in the Bombinating Beast's likeness...) Methinks Gifford and Ghede are the two corrupt judges - "the man with a beard but no hair" and "the woman with hair but no beard" - who sentence the Baudelaires unjustly at the end of The Penultimate Peril.
