About this deal

Arctic has built, thus far, a good product. We need to see how it does long-term, as Enermax has scared us away from firm recommendations on thermals alone. We would recommend the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 as a go-to solution over competing liquid coolers, based on thermal and acoustic performance, although we’d also note that most proven (e.g. Asetek, CoolIT) coolers will perform similarly. If you want RGB LEDs, you’re mostly just paying more for them, but should be in the ballpark for performance. The ASUS ROG Strix LC 120 is a robust, high-performance AIO with customizable RGB lights on the pump head. It looks stylish and modern, and its cooling abilities are amazing, but it gets just a little bit too loud to take the top spot as the best 120mm AIO cooler. The RGB lights on the pump and fan interface with an RGB-compatible motherboard or can be manipulated with the included controller. If RGB isn’t your thing, this cooler still looks sleek with the lights off, thanks to the matte finish. All in all, the Corsair Hydro Series H80i v2 is one of the top 120mm AIO coolers on the market. It keeps pace with many larger coolers due to its oversized radiator and hoses. While the price is steep, the Corsair is a great deal and is perfect for someone with a powerful machine but limited space in their tower.

Our next chart continues with the 3950X 200W load, but allows all the coolers to run at 100% fan speed during the test. This doesn’t move the needle much for Arctic, which seems to top-out in its efficiency at around 1200RPM rather than its maximum 1600RPM. The results were +/-1C as usual, but our average ended up at 50.9 degrees over ambient. That’s not enough of a change, so there’s room to reduce noise level without much loss of overall performance. At the 1610RPM speed, the Arctic cooler ran at 42.5dBA at the normal 20” distance. This puts it about equal in thermal performance to the NZXT Kraken X62 and X72, which run around 51-53dBA, or a perceived noise increase to the human ear of about 2x. Again, that’s perceived to the human ear, not acoustic power, which is a different scale. Either way, Arctic’s solution is significantly quieter at the same performance. The EVGA CLC 360 shows that we’re not limited by our test bench, but also that jet engine levels of noise are needed to drive the temperature down further. 3800X – 35dBA All in all, this is a great option for an AIO water cooler. It has a small footprint, so you’ll be able to install it in most towers, and it’s highly durable due to the quality of its components. The included 5-year warranty is also a welcome sight. Overall, the EK AIO D-RGB represents good value. Not a big deal since laying the board flat on the table bypasses it, but this could be even easier if Arctic refined the solution with cap screws. On the installation front, buyers should also be aware of the short cables for the fans. They can be connected to the splitter cable (which is sleeved alongside the tubes), but we prefer connecting our fans directly to the motherboard to exercise more control over the fans. This is easily solved with some 4-pin-to-4-pin extension cables. Conclusion

Radiator Dimensions: 157 x 120 x 27mm / 6.2 x 4.7 x 1.1” | Fan Dimensions: 120 x 120 x 25mm / 4.7 x 4.7 x 1” | Fan Speed: 650 ~ 1800 RPM +/- 10 % | Noise Volume: 8 ~ 27 dBa | Warranty: 2 years Quality-wise, the NZXT Kraken M22 is up to par. Like a few other coolers on this list, its hoses are sleeved in nylon and are resistant to bending and kinking, so you won’t need to worry about leakage. In a nod to acoustic performance, the Kraken M22 boasts a rubberized housing for the fan, helping keep it quiet when it’s spinning at its maximum RPM. A 120 mm Arctic P12 model is used as a fan, which was specially developed for use on radiators. The 120 millimeter fan ensures a strong air flow at a maximum of 1,800 rpm. Thanks to the 4-pin PWM connection, the fan only rotates as fast as the temperature development on the CPU requires. Altogether, this Thermaltake 120mm AIO is an incredible cooler. You won’t find a cooler with more RGB LED support if that happens to be your thing. You’ll have tons of customization options for those lights as well. While stress testing in Cinebench, I run both with power limits removed and with an enforced 200W CPU power limit. In this test setup I’m using MSI’s z690 A Pro DDR4 Motherboard and Be Quiet’s Silent Base 802 Computer Case. Only the best coolers are able to pass Cinebench testing when power limits are removed.

Like many other AIO coolers, installing the Cooler Master MasterLiquid LC120L RGB V2 is very easy. It’s as simple as fastening a few screws, and PC builders of all levels will have no issues getting this cooler up and running.

First things first, the RGB design of this cooler is breathtaking. RGB LEDs are nestled on the pump and, when activated, provide an “infinity mirror” look. This is easily the best-looking 120mm AIO cooler on the market. The RGBs are totally customizable and can even be configured to change color based on the temperature, something no other 120mm cooler on the list is able to do. Altogether, this cooler offers looks and performance but comes at a relatively high price when compared to other 120mm coolers. However, if you look at its performance, it’s mostly comparable to larger coolers and is, therefore, quite a bargain.

The Liquid Freezer II features a completely new, PWM-controlled pump design, which offers improved efficiency with low power usage and quiet operation. Arctic says the new Liquid Freezer II pump ensures an ideal ratio of a high CPU cooling performance and a low noise level. Quality-wise, this ASUS AIO is great. The pump is made completely out of aluminum, while the cold plate is highly-conductive copper. Its hoses are sleeved in nylon and are incredibly durable. You’ll be very impressed with the quality of the Strix LC 120. Another very interesting design feature of the Arctic Liquid Freezer II is its extremely neat and tidy appearance. Arctic has integrated cable management into fully sleeved tubes for a clean look in your PC’s case. Both fan cables run inside the tube sleeving and connect to the pump housing. A single cable then comes from the pump and connects to the motherboard, which drives both fans and the pump. While 120 mm AIOs don’t make much sense in mid- or full-tower cases, they start coming into their own once you enter Mini-ITX and SFF territory. Sure, there are a few capable low-profile air CPU coolers (like the Noctua NH-L9x65) on the market now, but they still rely on airflow to keep your CPU cool.At full price, the EVGA CLC 120 is one to avoid. But a low price often makes it easier to overlook a product’s flaws, and that’s the case here as well. And despite its unremarkable performance with an i7-5930K, the CLC 120 will probably do fine with a lower-powered rig in a small form factor (SFF) or home theater PC (HTPC) build.
