About this deal

What surprised me was what a good person Hepburn seemed to have been. I had no idea she had been an ambassador for UNICEF in the last few years of her life and I loved the anecdotes from her family, friends and co-stars. Based on Audrey Hepburn’s childhood experiences in Holland during World War II, Little Audrey’s Daydream introduces children to the actress’s life. Written by Hepburn’s son and daughter-in-law, the book captures key milestones in the icon’s life – from the time she enrolled in a premier ballet school, to her first steps into acting and becoming a successful film star, to her work with children throughout the world. The book captures her determination, spirit and aims to inspire readers, young and old. I normally love Brenda Janowitz novels, but unfortunately I can't say the same about her latest work, The Audrey Hepburn Estate. Of note-the novel pay homage to the movie Sabrina, also starting Audrey Hepburn, which I did not realize before reading the book. Wow! Brenda Janowitz, author of “The Audrey Hepburn Estate,” has written a spectacular, captivating, and intriguing novel. I loved everything about this book. The genres for this novel are Historical Fiction, Romance, Mystery, Suspense, and Fiction. The author vividly describes the characters, the scenery, the plot, and the events. Brenda Janowitz is a wonderful storyteller who gives the story such a sensory feel. One can smell the flowers, the food, and the drink, hear the characters, and feel and see the art. The author does raise the question, “When is a home, and when does a house become a home.” The author also discusses visiting the past, second chances, and forgiveness. I flew through the first 1/3 of this book, but the rest of the story really slowed down and began to meander and become repetitive, which lead to me loosing interest.

By focusing specifically on the 60s, the book succeeds in capturing Hepburn at the very height of her career and includes photo shoots with some of the most highly regarded photographers. The selected quotes from some of her contemporaries, as well as by Hepburn herself, make this a visually stunning book,” says Elvira Stamper, a book blogger at Next coursework and Writemyx.

I have always enjoyed watching many of Audrey Hepburn's films and I knew from my mum that this was a good biography of her. Barry Paris has certainly done his research and I felt I had a well-rounded view of Hepburn by the end of the book. Our Kind tells the story of a group of women who, once country-club housewives during the 1950s, are now left to confront the realities of life as independent and divorced women. An insightful and witty novel, Our Kind, succeeds in capturing the attitudes and experiences of a generation of women. The colorful and dramatic characters are described as complex and complicated. There is “good and evil” in some characters. The protagonist, Emma Jansen, a Chef, is devastated when she hears that the house she grew up in will be demolished. She takes the train to Glen Cove to see the mansion and the apartment over the garage where she lived with her family. Emma’s mother was the maid to a wealthy family. Emma remembers her childhood friends, Henry and Leo. Henry was the wealthy grandson, and Leo was the son of the family’s driver. Emma always loved Henry, but it seemed forbidden because of Henry’s wealth. So we’re suddenly in a classic rom-com situation, and their final-scene kisses in the pouring rain becoming the blueprint for the genre, from Four Weddings and a Funeral to The Notebook. The novella meanwhile – despite the frothy, fizzing readability of Capote’s shimmering prose – leaves a more bitter taste, Holly scooting away in a cab never to be seen again. Golightly is a wild thing; there’s no containing her, no making her stay. She keeps on going lightly over the world, even if the need to keep reinventing herself starts to look more like a heavy burden. In 1959, the book was adapted into a film by screenwriter Robert Anderson and director Fred Zinnemann. The Nun's Story starred Audrey Hepburn as Sister Luke. It was a critical and box-office success, and was nominated for eight oscars at the 32nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Hepburn's third nomination for Best Actress. What made Audrey stand out though was her sense of style, her wardrobe was chic and classic. Her simplistic style was unique and her collaborations with her lifelong friend Givenchy made her a Fashion Icon. I think it’s safe to say we all recognise the image of Audrey in Breakfast at Tiffany’s … it’s legendary! The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a captivating read in which an aging Hollywood film star, Evelyn Hugo, decides to share the truths of her life. Choosing a largely unknown magazine reporter, Monique Grant, to write her biography, Evelyn bares all about her seemingly glamourous life.
