About this deal

In Injustice: Gods Among Us mobile, The Batman Who Laughs is a playable character (being considered a version of the Joker).

Roughly one year after Batman's debut, Capt. James Gordon finds himself in a rapidly-changing world: Gotham's organized crime is on the wane (especially with Commissioner Loeb's ousting), while costumed crimefighters are emerging across the nation. However, crime itself has grown exponentially more extreme, with some criminals - such as the since-vanished "Red Hood" robber - adopting costumes and aliases of their own. There’s perhaps more of Joker’s essence in the illustrations than in Brubaker’s dialogue, which shows quite how well Mahnke grasps the character.Denton, Martin, ed. (2006). Playing With Canons. Having realized that the Batman Who Laughs could only anticipate every move Bruce Wayne would realistically do, the Batman of this world did something he would otherwise never do - team up with the Joker to save the day. In the final confrontation, Batman escaped his evil counterpart and rescued the Over-Monitor, while the cave they were in collapsed on the Batman Who Laughs and the Joker.

With that in mind you could question his suitability as a cultural touchstone, yet he has that status all the same. The Joker is the perfect foil for Batman, and the two may be the most iconic protagonist/antagonist duo in modern Western pop culture. Where Brubaker excels is in telling the story from both Captain Jim Gordon’s and Bruce Wayne’s/Batman’s internal perspectives. The two narrate the story in the style of a baton race, providing us with pulp fiction-style insight into events as they unfold.Jokerized-Superman broke the Batman Who Laughs out of his cell in the Hall of Justice - his plan seemingly working. Superman asked the Bat what his ultimate goal was, which he admitted was destroying all life in the multiverse. Bruce fought his way through Arkham Asylum, causing a mass breakout, and offered magic playing cards made out of Cosmic Metallurgy to the worst of Batman's enemies, allowing them to manipulate reality the way they saw it. The villains to receive the cards were the Riddler, Poison Ivy, Firefly, Bane, Mister Freeze and Mad Hatter, who were then each given a section of the Gotham to manipulate and rule over to protect the newly formed Challengers Mountain sitting in the middle of the city. Fixed editing error. When Batman shoots the glass doors, he now immediately drives through them instead of having a random parking garage clip inserted between the two shots. Batman: The Red Death #1, Batman: The Devastator #1, Batman: The Merciless #1, Batman: The Murder Machine #1, Batman: The Drowned #1, Batman: The Dawnbreaker #1, The Batman Who Laughs (vol. 1) #1, Dark Knights Rising: The Wild Hunt #1 Brubaker and Mahnke hit us hard and fast with the Joker’s brutality, opening with the discovery of chemically mutilated corpses in an abandoned factory. The Batman Who Laughs is depicted as having the same abilities as Batman, combined with the twisted nihilism of the Joker. This contributed to the reasons why Batman was forced to ally with the Joker to stop his counterpart, as he anticipated that his other self retained his existing tactical abilities and therefore an alliance between Batman and the Joker was the only thing his counterpart could never anticipate. Hailing from the Dark Multiverse, he is able to see people's dark urges and fears, visualized as alternate realities of their current actions. His characteristic metal crown functions as a futuristic visor made out of "Dark Metal", allowing him to filter these actions and pinpoint his opponents' next moves during combat and manipulate them psychologically by using his knowledge of their fears. Unlike Batman, he opts for lethal weapons that allow him to kill swiftly, including but not limited to machine guns, knives, a chain weapon with a batarang attached at the end, and an assortment of bladed weapons. A comic book version of the story was published by Self Made Hero in 2013, featuring writer David Hine and artist Mark Stafford.

The Batman Who Laughs also uses batarangs made of "Dark Metal" that can bring out the worst version of the victim. He used these when he created a new incarnation of the Secret Six using infected Justice League members. During the " Dark Nights: Death Metal" storyline, The Batman Who Laughs becomes Perpetua's lieutenant. Aided by an army of evil Batmen from the Dark Multiverse called the Dark Knights (consisting of Baby Batman, Batmansaurus Rex, Batmobeast, Castle Bat, and Robin King), they enforce her rule. When Wonder Woman decides the best course of action is to make the first Anti-Crisis following a talk with Wally West, she is confronted by the Batman Who Laughs, whom she proceeds to gut with an invisible Chainsaw of Truth. Though dead, the Dark Knights set to work to unleash the Batman Who Laughs' true plan: preparing the body of the final Bruce Wayne. [7] This body happens to be Batmanhattan, a version of Bruce Wayne who copied the formula that created Doctor Manhattan. [8] Both stories meld elements from Batman #1 into those of Batman: Year One, though this story does so more heavily (for instance, making the Joker's threat to Gotham's water supply a serious one, where "Images" only briefly referenced it and implied it was a diversion). Dimensional Travel: Bruce can traverse between the various realities in the multiverse as well as reach into these worlds at will. [17]This story has just enough Brubaker in it to be enjoyable, particularly for his existing fans. Brubaker’s love of the tabloid rags from the Golden Age of Hollywood comes through in how he methodically plans and dissects his own use of violence, making even a fantasy world of Gotham feel more like the late edition of some yellow journalism fish wrapper (which I mean in the best of ways!). Mahnke’s art is fantastic throughout. The forms and shapes of his characters are crisp, but the additional lines and textures give everything a grittiness that matches the story. The action sequences (of which there are plenty) are clear and fluid. During the conflict, the Batman Who Laughs' son Damian was killed, but Bruce was apathetically unmoved. Before we go further, I need to expand on what I said up top about DC’s idea of this book being a “big contribution” to Batman . The Batman Who Laughs survived the cave collapse and continued his quest for world destruction, allying himself with the House of Conquest against the Council of Immortals. [10] The Batman Who Laughs aided in trying to start a global war, as part of the House of Conquest's motives was that humanity had gotten weak without a devastating longform conflict. [5]
