About this deal

The Ghost is the most popular shoe Brooks have created to date, and this latest 14th edition promises to be an exciting upgrade on a classic. Test run The Ghost 14 does ride ever so slightly softer than the Ghost 13 but it’s negligible. If the Ghost 13 is a 6/10 in terms of softness, the Ghost 14 is a 6.25. It puts my feet on a steeper downward ramp and I feel like it helps me through transitions more than shoes with a less aggressive drop. The thinner mesh also makes the forefoot feel more spacious but it fits true to size. It’s available in 4 different men’s widths and 3 women’s widths if you need them. I really don’t get why almost every review on here says “knee pain” in it. I’ve had absolutely no knee pain whatsoever (not even a hint of it) and I’ve put about 200 miles onto these shoes so far. I also weigh over 200lbs, so if it’s anyone’s knees that should be hurting, it’s mine.

The Brooks Ghost is probably the blandest running shoe in existence. If the Ghost was a pizza, it would be a Margherita. As a daily trainer weight is not usually a key issue to stress about, but this shoe would be more interesting at 8.5-9 ounces. Built heavy-duty The last gripe on the ride is the 12.4mm drop. As a generalist shoe built for the masses, this is just too much drop. It needs to be 6-8 to work well for the majority of runners I think. It feels steep and I just hate steep drop shoes unless they have a specific reason for being so. Ready to go straight from the box The initial wear of the outsole rubber, especially on the heel area shows rapid wear after the first couple of runs, however after that, the wear tapers. If you wanted to run a marathon in the Ghost 14 and you weren’t worried about your time, you definitely could. I did 42 kilometres in it and it performed brilliantly.

I enjoyed it most on steady-paced runs, slightly faster than easy pace, between 4.50 and 5.30 minutes per kilometre. It’s neither too soft nor too firm, its upper is comfortable no matter what foot type you have and it has a remarkably stable ride for a neutral shoe. The tongue is still not gusseted so it slides laterally. The premium tongue gusset is only featured on the top of the range Glycerin. I did see Brooks makes this in one fun colorway, a killer neon green, good for you brooks to step out and try something new. Night runners

The grip is great. There’s lots of rubber under the shoe with a variety of textures and siping. It had no problems on my runs and should work on anything you throw at it, rain or shine. During gait analysis you will be asked to walk and run on our in-store treadmill whilst your movements are recorded using the latest Daftfish software. A slow-motion, detailed analysis will show and explain your biomechanics, specifically looking at pronation, the inward-turning movement that occurs when your foot touches the ground. During walking and running this acts as cushioning for the body.

Instructions

This shoe only has one reflective element on the heel, even though it looks like there are reflective elements on the side, they didn’t actually reflect light. Version 14 feels more versatile and more performance-oriented than version 13 because of its streamlined upper, snappier forefoot and its new full DNA Loft midsole. Consider coming into a store and doing a video gait analysis. Gait analysis monitors your body’s movement and your feet (sports biomechanics) whilst running. It’s commonly used to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify movement related problems for people with injuries who are seeking new running shoes.

It’s very important to know your running gait so that we can advise and fit the correct shoes according to your own individual requirements. Can’t get into store? Try a wet foot test The Ghost 14 GTX Running Shoes from Brooks combine long-distance comfort with excellent weather protection from GORE-TEX, making them a good choice for putting in the training miles in all weather conditions. With a midsole made from DNA LOFT and a Segmented Crash Pad design, the ride is plush and well-cushioned, giving smooth, natural feeling transitions and great comfort. After 80 kilometers in the Ghost 14, I’ve noticed that outsole durability is however below average compared to other daily trainers so if you’re particularly hard on outsoles, stay away from the Ghost. One of the forefoot grooves is now partially filled with rubber. This makes the forefoot less flexible and feel more snappy during transitions.Everyone’s gait is slightly different, but there are four main types of running styles and pronation: From time to time carriers may deliver earlier or later, or on non working days however this is cannot be guaranteed nor should it be expected.
