The Maldon mill is the smallest and most flexible of the Carr’s mills. It is located on the banks of the River Chelmer, in Maldon Essex where it has been since 1896. It is located in the heart of one of the finest wheat growing regions in the UK and as a result 70% of the wheat is locally sourced within 30 miles of the mill. Maldon mill, is a supplier to many of the artisan bakers, particularily in the London area. Since 1972 the Carr's biscuit factory has been part of United Biscuits, and the Carr's branded products are marketed in the US by Kellogg's. The factory today is known officially as McVitie's but still known locally as Carr's. The Royal Warrant was to prove a boon to sales, and 400 tons of biscuits were produced in 1846, with a staff of 90.
