About this deal

Finally, the phono output cable is detachable (and therefore upgradeable?) with a grounding wire alongside it. There is also a clear plastic dust cover included that slots on the plinth elegantly. Quality

The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo is easy to set up, has fantastic build quality, and is the best-sounding turntable we’ve tested.” – Chris Heinonen, Wirecutter

Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 28th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) The main platter upon which the record is played should be heavy and non-resonant. The Debut Carbon EVO approaches this problem by using our proven 12” steel platter, now lined around the outer edge (bottom side) with an anti-resonant thermo-plastic elastomer (TPE). The result is a heavier platter with minimal noise over an expertly engineered main bearing and sub-platter. The added rotational mass enhances the flywheel effect, yielding reduced wow & flutter and higher stability while damping resonance. A Stable Stance That's why I only spent dirt cheap money for streaming: for convenience rather than sound quality !!! Pro-Ject used Pro-Ject's technology and experience gained from the past and fit damping techniques of highend turntables into the Debut Carbon EVO. Looking at more advanced TPE damping and highmass sandwich constructions Pro-Ject were able to come up with a new motor and suspension solution for the Debut Carbon EVO. The ability to tie all the musical strands together and paint them on a precise and spacious canvas seems to come easy to the Rega, and in that aspect its delivery just works.

From the Pro-Ject 1, all turntables - regardless of price - were made with the same basic principles: A passive preamp is therefore a "bypass" straight line, an absolute comparison reference, technically & sonically for any preamp with gain, including Nelson Pass preamps, for sure. The Debut Carbon EVO focuses on the core aspects that make a turntable sound great. Technically correct design - expert craftsmanship - handmade in the EU. This turntable is built to last you a lifetime! For a 45 RPM record, I chose Ed Sheeran’s multiply which is a double album. Listening to The Man, the Pro-Ject really digs into the bass as I realise that I have a very accomplished and capable turntable on my hands. Overall A classic signature feature of the original model that has been carried through is the carbon tonearm. Usually found on more expensive turntables, this provides significant benefits to the sound quality. Being stiffer than steel, the tonearm is more rigid, which helps reproduce the music more accurately. In short, the music sounds tighter, punchier and more detailed. Please school me how this is accurately done within 1/4' or 2mm tolerance with reference to any published acoustic research studies.

A floating sound, big soundstage, extreme attention to delivering a deep emotional connection with the music.

Despite that nod to convenience, we think you’ll want to interact with this record player as much as possible. Having followed Pro-Ject’s Debut line for many years, we find there’s a real sense of it reaching adulthood with the new Debut Carbon Evo. Call it reviewer’s intuition but I feel fingers hovering over the keyboard on this one. Before you solemnly inform me that mains is mains, hear me out. You wrote like an loudspeaker expert, telling us proper positioning the loudspeakers could make digital sound better. Unique to the items discussed here, changing to the 2M Blue stylus was detailed in the original Debut Carbon Evo review. We’ve covered the effect of different stylus profiles on performance before and the nude elliptical stylus of the 2M Blue has lower mass than the bonded one of the 2M Red. On a personal and subjective level, I have long felt that the 2M Blue is the sweet spot of the range and something I recommend changing on most 2M Red equipped turntables. The in-house designed and manufactured AC drive motor is made to fine tolerances for minimal noise, but to further eliminate any potential interference the motor is decoupled from the main chassis by a new mounting plate with TPE-damping. The mounting plate isolates the motor while still keeping it perfectly level with the sub-platter drive system for absolute speed stability. The turntable plinth also sits on three height-adjustable aluminium feet with TPE-damping to ensure an absolutely stable platform with good isolation from the shelf it is placed upon. Right from the beginning, the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO was far better: more emotional and weighty, more living-and-breathing, more detailed, more dynamic, more spacious. Also much more engaging and resolute without any distraction of harshness. So please advise me on my placement of my 2-way KEF standspeakers: being 5ft 10.5 ft between centre to centre of both speaker boxes, 10ft 2inch from from centre of each loudspeaker box to my ears. Both loudspeaker boxes are toed-in direcly toward my ears. It has a kind of seductive, organic richness and woodiness, that we never were aware it was hidden inside the Ortofon 2M Red moving magnet – not until now. Sound quality is always our main concern, so it’s still the Rega for us, but that’s a split, rather than an unanimous, decision. The answer to which is better for you will come from hearing both for yourself, but don’t let that frustrate you – you’ll be in the company of two of the best record players ever made at this price.
